If THIS is true, then boy oh boy thats some hell of a grind to get something that should have been in the game from the get-go.
I've got something like 30 odd hours in GT5, and I am only at level 20, so god alone knows how many hours, and how many repeated events (because I sure that there isn't enough events in GT5 to get to level 40 without repeating) it will take to get there.
I just "golded" all the Top Gear special events, fun, frustrating, and the last event is a little weird, but worth it for the prize.
Must confess, I am a little deflated, surely they could have done more with the Top Gear track and franchise than 3, short events that actually have little to do with driving fast, as they are more a test of avoidance and patience, especially the last one....
Hopefully they can flesh out the special events with some additional content in the future with DLC or what not.
Indeed, but slamming the brakes on right at the apex isn't good behaviour.
I was fiddling this morning, and to my suprise, I have found that, for whatever reason, the physics feel better using bumper cam, than they do in the cockpit view, for some reason you get better feedback and weight transfer whilst in bumper cam
No, I am not running in this years Norwich HM, thankfully judging by the weather!, £20?, bloody hell, have you seen the prices they charge for their photos?!
Back on topic.....physics.....yeah, there seems to be some tyre physics issues, some cars are REALLY slippy, the Elise like Tristan mentions, I also think that the low speed tyre grip is off in FWD cars, as there is very, very little traction of the line, even in a not overly powerfull car, but then once its moving its tough to break traction when cornering, likewise in RWD cars, they are very, very keen to break traction at the slightest touch.
I don't think its "****ed", as what it does, it does well, I do however think its very, very incomplete, and needs a lot of work.
Norwich HM?, I take it "Marathonfotos"?, didn't your bro take pics last year?, I was running, by christ those photos are expensive, I hope you are being paid well!!!!
Nothing changes, its just that you actually get some sembelence of feedback from the tyres with a FFB device, as opposed to none with a gamepad, but the physics are still the same.
Quite nice, but 5 a day?, I'd rather have them from day one to look through though.
I also like the descriptions on each of the cars, something I like very much in GT"
Also, it unfortunate (for me) they removed the "machine test" section, where you could test your car in 0-400m, 0-1000m and top speed.
@Jibber, it is possible to enjoy a game that is unrealistic, aslong as it is fun.
But yeah, different tastes and all that, I am sure tons of people will get lots of enjoyment out of it, and PD/Sony will make a shed load of money, but boy oh boy did they fall short of the potential of the series on the current crop of hardware.
The fact that you can play GT5 with a non-specific wheel is a HUGE plus, and yes, GT5 does feel better with the wheel than the pad, and maybe me playing FM3 with a wheel would alter my view, but basing it on pad physics (and thats all I can do, simply because I have no wheel for the xbox) FM3 blows it out of the water, its quite clear to me, that the tyre model in FM3 is way superior, likewise, LFS / iR blow both of them out of the water, and to say GT5's physics even approach LFS or iR is ridiculous.
As a complete package, FM3 is much, much better, sure, graphically its not as "special" as the "special" bits in GT5, but overall its as good, the tracks are as good, and the models / textures on the standards are a long, long way off, I mean just compare like for like, take the XJ220 in both, or the countach, you will see what I mean.
Sounds are also very, very poor, I modded my Lancia Delta, and the sounds changed, but not for the better, it has some nasty looping, and sounds more like a JCB, likewise my XJ13, sounds like a tractor, take the SLS AMG, it sounds nothing like a real one, likewise, transmission noise, and forced induction sound way off real life.
If you look at some of the cockpits in GT5:P they look great, where as some of the cockpits in GT5 are quite blurry, and just don't look as special as they do/did in GT5:P, also, the whole presentation was so, so much better in GT5:P, it feels they have taken a step backwards.
Its not all bad, rallying is fun, as is Nascar (although the physics feel a bit iffy in Nascars), Karts are also a lot of fun, online is lag free, although the options are limited.
You love it, I don't, I can live with that, but no matter what side of the fence you are on, the good news is that, with patches, it can only get better.
I've put quite a few hours into it now (20+), level 19, 30% of the way through, it is, without a shadow of a doubt, entertaining, I do find myself drawn back into it, without really understanding why, but the feeling is still the same.
Its pretty much the same game as GT1 was back in 1997 with a bit of a make over, there are many areas that other games have exceeded in, that GT5 doesn't even attempt to broach, in particular customization, settings, and modifications, anyone else noticed you can't actually adjust gear ratios?, or save settings? (tunes), or that you can't adjust tyre pressures?, or that the way tyres heat up and cool down is completing unrealistic, that side of it is very, very basic compared to the sophistication that some game have made in these area's.
The lack of racing modifications (something like 15 out of 220 can actually be modified), the lack of wheels, the lack of aero parts, the intrinsically contrived paint system, all point to an incomplete "vision" of a game.
Then there is the shonky AI, which is clearly rubberbanded, also the way over done slipstream effect, which make races a bit of a chore, the lack of qualification, which means you always plonked in the middle of the field, the lack of actual racing events (3 days in, and I have completed 4 off the available "stages" which leave me with one "stage" (9 events) to go, and then what?, time trialing?, whats the point no time trial leaderboards, B spec?, yawnsville, licenses are fun, but why did they removie the "need" to do them to actually do A spec races
**** it, you know what, if you really think this is a worthy racing game of this generation, then you are clearly deluded, blind, or brainwashed, it is a dissapointment in more area's than those it does well, heck it doesn't even look as good as GT5:P.
For 6 years of work, and the amount of hype and money that has been spent on it, I think PD need to sit down and take a long hard look at what they've produced.
You guys make it sound like I've got nothing positive to say, which isn't true, if you care to read my posts you'll see I am trying to be balanced, praising the good, but pointing out the flaws.
But all you see is the negatives I post, I am, first and foremost, a sim fan, I really couldn't care less what system, or what francise it is, if its good, its good, bottomline.
With that said, I am done with this thread, there is no point me posting because all you lot will do is pull what I say apart, and lambast me as a "hater".
Hopefully I'll race some of you online at some point.
There is also an odd flashing shadow, and "on off" headlight effect on Toscana track when it changes from dusk to dark, I also am finding the headlights don't throw out enough light to see enough on said Toscana track, plus, oddly enough, low beam gives me more illumination than high beam.
