Quote from Be2K :now its official - LFS uses licensed VW Advertising - its on the leftside of the electricity pylon:

i am not quite sure if you need Contracts with VW but i think its an indicator that VW is involved !

FWIW: LFS has always had advertisments in-game with various companies like Castrol and such. I don't know if there's any financial benefits, or Scawen and co approached them as just a way to give some authenticity to LFS (while giving the company free advertising).

Quote from Scawen :Hello Racers,
The high level of detail resulted in some loss of frame rate, specially in open configs, so we have worked on a new system where open configs can use 'paths' (and change between paths as needed) so LFS knows where you are and what you can see from your location. This keeps the frame rate high by avoiding drawing too many objects

Why not to release a test patch so we can test it(Just for the 'Paths' system)? I can't wait to get this

Scawen stated in his first post (if I understood it correctly) that he intends to release a test patch with this system.

Quote from CSF :Mysognony isn't saying she isn't good enough, but the Daily Mail articles comments section is filled with shit about her 'weight problems'. That's very misogynistic.

Can't we just kill all the birds and say she's a shit driver and she's fat?

Deep pockets trump great skill.

That's all it boils down to. Alice Powell is no different. Although getting on with Caterham isn't much more impressive than being hired by your local taxi company.

IIRC: aaltomar did a lot of hotlapping and posted a decent amount of WRs to the charts (unless I'm mistaken)

Quote from Scawen :I'm not jealous of them or something like that.

It's hard to be jealous of people who are paying a sum of money to fundementally play NR2003 with the 800th failed iteration of Kaermer physics.

Quote from CardsetCrazy :For me LFS is still the best racing simulator on the market. It's just that not everyone think like that. And you can't really blame them. In my opinion it's stupid to use words like "weak community" to game which has been 7 years without updating their content.

The sadder part is that people are leaving LFS for games with worse/absolutely awful online functionality like AC, or games with terrible physics like iRacing/pCARS.

I've maintained that content will revive LFS, no matter how "dead" it is, as LFS is still the only sim that gets the whole online experience perfect.

The strange thing is that OutGauge and OutSim have become pseudo-standards because LFS has had such wide support for such devices. Most of the Codie driving games support both as well for motion sim/gauge support.

It's a testament to how well Scawen designed the 2 protocols.

Quote from Bmxtwins :LOL. It's a fence bro. Not a big deal.

Performance wise it is a big deal.

How many people I have seen crying already, "oh open layout my computer goes to 15 fps, nooooo" .. With this hi-res Westhill I can image half of LFS are getting problems with it. And this is what this update actually is trying to tell. Optimizing..

But, nobody gets that.

It's even just the addition of engine features. Having model instances like that (instead of a bunch of unique fence models) is huge for frame rate.

What about the armco into a sudden tyre barrier. That seems painful as well.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :It's an important addition to the engine. DX10 added it as a library feature, so I think it's nice that LFS' engine has that functionality added to it as well in DX9, plus it allows for more intricate repeated geometry instead of alpha textures.

As long as it slows down the release of any future content, everything is well and good.

Well, unlike other sims, LFS has a very old game engine at its core so it makes sense that features to engine do take priority over content. 10+ years of code debt is nothing to joke about, and with such a small team, things can only work in serial, not parallel. Content does sometimes need to get put on hold to make important engine changes.

Quote from CSF :Are we really losing our selves over fence posts? Really?

EDIT:
Actually, it seems that DX9 has geometry instancing support as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometry_instancing

Quote from sicotange :Mouth-watering. Is it me or does the new Westhill feature new gigantic trees? The tree on the far left in the second screenshot looks stunning.

They still look like billboard trees, but very detailed ones.

Quote from Eclipsed :Then so must be iRacing - it's also massively popular!
(since the race is killed, offtopic can't do anything bad anyway,I guess)

By that logic, one black person robbed a bank, all black people rob banks.

Quote from Bose321 :Because you can't just bend a car because they're properly built? Why am I even bothering.

FTR: The iPhone 6+ bends with similar force (as tested by ConsumerReports) to all other smartphones on the market.

And I feel the same. There's no point discussing anything with idiots as their arguments are always just random illogical garbage. Either non-related situations like Rony talking about being a carpenter, or just total conjecture.

Quote from Bose321 :So why is metal still a better quality choice for a phone when it bends? While a 'cheap' plastic phone doesn't?

So, your argument is that plastic is stronger than metal?

If that's true, why don't we make cars and skyscrapers out of plastic?

Again, I wonder why I ever try to argue with the idiots. Their counterpoints are consistently trash.

Metal does bend, you're right.
