I agree, maybe a warning telling people that it will suck up your bandwidth before you enable anything higher than 6 as anyone joining the server would quickly need a fast download and upload speed once the people start coming in.
It truly sounds like your processor is overheating (though it could be your graphics card too). Do you have any way to check the temperature of your processor? If you don't, try Core Temp as I find it works very well for any processor with a sensor. Report back with your findings and what temperature everything is running at when you encounter these white textures.
EDIT: btw, Core Temp doesn't show graphics card temperatures. I am not sure if your graphics card will have a temperature sensor, if you want you can try a program like Everest (home edition).
I would practice with the XRT as it is still used in a pretty good amount of S2 servers. Here are the most used cars and tracks in order (counting demo) I attached to this post.
Yah, just don't take out anyone just because and people won't yell at you. Hitting someone (tapping them) to the outside going into a corner is fair game to pass them as long as you don't ram them as hard as you can.
Try re downloading the full game and extracting it to a different location (vanilla install) and run that to see if you still have problems. I can easily run the game maxed out with like 1/4 the rig you have so there is definitely something wrong. If you are still experiencing problems with a vanilla install then it is probably not LFS related (most likely drivers).
EDIT: Now that I've read your entire first post, it seems like it is just how LFS is and not an actual problem.
You bought it through the Live For Speed website with paypal right? It may take a day or two for the transaction to be approved before you receive your S1 license. I am unsure on the exact amount of time it might take as I used a credit card.
Sadly, I can't run at that resolution. My monitor only supports up to 1280x1024. I am running everything maxed out, updated tire and track textures, and 4xAA 16xAF. LFS is mostly dependant on your processor (I have an AMD x2 4600+ at 2.4Ghz and 1GB RAM). With these settings offline I get between 110-140 fps but I usually cap it at 60 so I don't push the card too much offline or online and I usually have the LCD at a refresh rate of 60hz anyway.
It's a great card and I think it will match your rig perfectly. Is your proccessor overclocked?
If you have the time and patience, you can set up your own 2.1 system using regular speakers and I am sure you can find quite a few guides as the price to performance ratio is much better.
My dad has used this approach to get out of deep water when his engine stalled (probably like 15 years ago :razz. He put it in first and used the starter to slowly pull himself out of the flooded road. Can't remember what car he was driving though.
Do you really need 5.1 speakers? I have the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers (got them for $105 at amazon) and they are very nice, even with integrated sound. The Subwoofer can really shake the house. I don't entirely recommended to turn the bass up in an apartment.
For some good cheap 2.1 speakers I would recommend the Logitech X-230's as there are alot of great reviews on them and they are around $30 here. If you live in an apartment, I would recommend taking a look at some comfortable good quality headphones. Sennheiser makes great headphones and their high ends are loved by audiophiles. Something like this would be nice.
Sorry about the U.S store links, don't know very many good UK online stores.
Great way to describe it. Every time I heard a car go by that night and the day after, it sounded kinda like I could hear the RX-8. My ears must have been ringing for a while.
I was there at Limerock on memorial day watching the race from the esses infield spectator hill. Was a blast to watch them fly around, and I was on the hill right in front of where the black carbon fiber Cobra caught on fire and ran down to the fence to see what happened. I love Limerock for being a pretty challenging circuit with little banking around the corners.
Here are a couple of videos from the Rolex Series when I was up in Limerock Park watching the two RX-8's hold their own against the Cobra's, Porsche's, and BMW's. I didn't record these, but I had a blast being there and listening to the many great cars. The RX-8's were the loudest IMO and sounded insane at WOT. The main event was a 2.5 hour race that was very fun to watch.
Coming up over the hill (No chicane in use. During the race, the Porsche's were pulling almost foot wheelies coming off of that hill): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNNFt3qBk2A
Making a pit stop (Anyone can walk up to that wall the camera man is standing right in front of and watch through the fence during the race, real exciting watching them change tires, add fuel, and the mandatory driver change): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPxv62g4yck
I'd get the 8600GT as I have the 8600GTS and it runs LFS perfectly. Here are some benchmarks of the 8600GT and 8600GTS. Scores have improved though as better drivers have come out, as the ones they used are about a month and a half old now.
