ATM, a SSD beats any HD in random access times so they are better if used as a boot drive for example. A pair of Raptors in RAID 0 however will blow a SSD away in continuous read/write performance.
Maybe in a year or two's time, a SSD would be worth having as a boot disk, but RAID is much more economical at the moment verses the small boot time increase you would receive with a SSD.
This was part of the point I was trying to get across. Some places are more dangerous than others and those who look for the safest way to do something dangerous shouldn't be placed into the same group as those who recklessly weave in and out of stop and go traffic following a friend.
I understand the risks of driving fast and I know that in certain places, you can put someones life in danger. I never said I do this every night or have done it at all. I just implied that it isn't as dangerous as some people think. I am tired of responding to the same questions every time so this will probably be my last post.
Why would you be scared of my driving? Out of everyone my age that I know, they would all rather ride with me as I am not distracted behind the wheel and pay attention using every one of my senses. Most teenagers take for granted having the privatively to drive a car around. I understand how much a car weighs and how fast it is traveling. You should be scared of the people who shouldn't deserve to pass the driving test. My friend didn't see the person coming the other way before he turned and almost got hit, yet still passed.
Obviously I wouldn't hit him as I wouldn't be driving on the shoulder.
Street cars race on the track all the time and do fine pushing the cars to the limit. 120mph driving in a straight line is not the limit, I can easily do that for a few seconds before getting on the brakes and bringing it back down to the speed limit without breaking a sweat. People do it all the time on the autobahn. The main highways up north in the US are exactly the same as the autobahn (without the speed limits).
I HAVE EYES. I can see out my front and back windshields. There are no cars in sight on a straight highway. What danger do I pose speeding up to 120mph in 10 seconds and then slowing back down to cruising speed. This is a short period of time, not the Gumball, no ones lives are at risk but your own. I am talking about a divided highway with 2 lanes going each way.
I never said that racing on public roads is safe or the right thing to do. I just said I see a difference between those who drive like maniacs down curvy back roads following their friends, and those who do a short race on a straight highway with a friend that only lasts 10 seconds, with no cars in sight in front or behind. Basically like this except no traffic.
Isn't that exactly what sanctioned racing is all about? They put cars on a track with walls and fences to keep the spectators safe. Why not do that on the road if you are going to street race. Doing it at night when no one is around so you are less of a threat.
It is my opinion, just because you think differently doesn't mean either one of us is wrong.
What do you mean max players? I doubt you could keep a server full all the time as well. I would recommend asking someone who already hosts a server for their usage. This would give you a starting point in determining the amount of bandwidth you will need.
I see a big difference in idiots that weave in and out of traffic doing 110mph on the highway and someone who waits until 3am, and scouts out the highway before they race. These are the people that don't cause any harm to anyone but themselves. They know the risks of racing and take them accordingly, just like anyone involved in motor sports today. It isn't hard to hold a car in a straight line
I DON'T think it's ok to street race, I just think it is immoral for someone to endanger other people's lives without at least doing their best to make the event safer.
What have I accomplished in life or will accomplish if I live to be 60? I haven't improved the life of the world and neither have most people. All most do is leech off the resources of the earth and then die. I am not afraid of death, I AM afraid of injuring others. That is why I only look down upon those who don't care about the safety of other people on the road who might accomplish something with their lives.
I think I got off on the wrong foot with my first post and didn't explain properly. I am talking about racing on public highways as these are the only places I would consider to be non dangerous in the right conditions.
Also, I am not talking about speeds over 120mph. This is like with racing a friend in your beater for fun to see who's is faster doing like a 40mph-100mph punch.
Do you realize how expensive it is to build and maintain a race track? And don't tell me about going to a race track nearby (Lime Rock Park) as it is almost impossible to find a spot open for those going for a track day without joining a club of some sort that races regularly. Most people, including me, have no money to pay for the constant fees of gas to get up to the track, and the cost of racing on the track.
I think those that can street race responsibly (doing it on the highway at night) aren't ever the ones in the news killing people b crashing out of control. They wait until there are no cars before racing, that way the only people endangered are themselves. I would much rather kill myself doing something I enjoy then end someone else's life.
I agree that those who race on crowded highways or streets should be punished to the fullest extent though.
If they brought back the drag strip here in Connecticut that was sold off to Consumer Reports I believe that it would take racing off the streets as those who want to drag race have to go all the way down to New Jersey (4 hour ride) just to get to a 1/4 strip. Why waste all the money and time to drive down there when you can just pull a run or two on an empty country road.
