I don't think it works in demo mode, but your personal best online laptimes for each car/circuit combination are recorded at LFS World http://www.lfsworld.net/

So is there no where else (apart from occasional posts in the league forums) to get this information at the moment?

Yeah, I'd like to find out more about LFS TV too.

What a shame ...

It can be difficult enough trying to resolve issues in a forum environment even when people speak the same language.

Even more difficult when you can't really communicate properly.
Content Suggestion

Here's a content suggestion.

How about a single, comprehensive and easy to view list of all forthcoming race events (say a month or so ahead of time) from all the various LFS leagues and competitions, including details of race times and whether or not non-participants are able to spectate? Each league or competition could send their information to LFS News, and everyone would know that LFSN is the place to check for all forthcoming events.

Sorry if this already exists somewhere, but I've been unable to find it if it does - and if it does, can someone tell me where I can find it!

Quote from Becky Rose :If a driver does a do or die and die's, then just restarts until he gets it right, then I do not want to be on the same server.

Agreed, provided he dies and doesn't take anyone else with him , but there are occasions when the culprit wipes other people out and is still able to continue the race himself. I think a word or two from the server admin and a restart might be appropriate on such an occasion.

I know this doesn't answer your question directly Slarti, but its a suggestion you might like to consider.

I've found an XBox controller (USB type) to be a very good compromise if you can't use a wheel. The two analogue triggers for throttle and brake mean much smoother driving (once you get useed to it) and of course it means you can trail brake as well.

There are a number of device drivers on the 'net which help the XBox controller to work smoothly.(If you need any pointers, let me know).

I know this does mean spending money though if you don't already own an XBox but you might think it's a worthwhile investment in the end.

Hope this helps.

Quote from Bob Smith :Join2LFS would be great if only it didn't load a second instance of LFS. If it communicated with the instance already running I might use it more. But generally I've already decided to play LFS and before going online.

Yep, I second that

The filtering facilities on LFSWorld are useful, so I like to use Join2LFS.

Quote from Jakg :pick your router from this list and it will tell you how...

Thanks Jakg.

I did get the settings for my router and LFS from that site - that's how I managed to configure my TCP and UDP settings ... but still no luck I'm afraid .

The good thing is that my host is listed on LFS World but unfortunately not on the Master Server - ho hum .

Maybe I can't see it but others can.

Hey Jakg, if you can spare a moment, could you just have a quick look for me and check if you can see TJRacing listed under the Demo listings (private) on the master server?

Thanks.

OK. It appears on LFS World but I can't see it on the Master Server (I've made sure all filters are off and I'm just checking the Demo hosts).

Does that narrow the problem down a bit?

UPDATE:

I'm using PitSpotter and I noticed I'm getting loads and loads of

"Connecting to 127.0.0.1:29999 ... Connect time outs at the DOS prompt.

Not sure if that means anything.

Quote from Bob Smith :You can check the active hosts list on LFS World and see if it appears there.

OK, thanks.

I'll try that.

Are there instances when it would appear on LFS World but not on the master list then?

Where will I find the dead zone setting in the setup menus?
Still can't get listed on the Master Server - Can anyone help?

Hi there.

Woe is me

Here's what I've tried so far in trying to create a DEMO server (not a dedicated one, but one which I create when I play):

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and my host machine is running LFS with an S2 licence..

I've read the guide (thanks, the_angry_angel).

Out of sheer despiration I've completely disabled Windows Fire Wall to eliminate any possibility that the problem is there.

I've configured my router to open ports 63392 and 29339 on both TCP and UDP.

I've tried the IP address at start up as both 'auto' and by inserting my host machine's IP address ...

and I still can't seem to get my host to appear on the master server list.

I've tried to find it using another PC running LFS Demo software. This machine is on the same router as the host machine (but obviously it has a different IP address). This shouldn't be a problem should it? It should still be able to see my other host machine's listing even though the two machines are sharing the same router and ISP, shouldn't it? I hope this isn't the problem 'cos I don't know any other way to check if my host is listed.

Does anyone have any advice and/or suggestions?

Cheers.
Can you see TJRacing on the master server?

Hi,

I'm having problems creating a host and was wondering if anyone can tell me, is a DEMO private host called TJRacing visible on the master server?

Many thanks.

UPDATE - had to log off for now so host won't be there at the moment

Quote from the_angry_angel :When you start LFS, move the stick in all directions, to the limits and back again. Then try. You might find its much better.

OK, thanks.

Yes, I think I know what you mean.

It often needs a turn to the left and right after recalibrating the steering to stop it from jumping all over the place, but even after that, the steering still remains very sensitive.
Over sensitive steering problem

Hi there.

I'm currently using a PS2 controller with a USB adaptor to play LFS.

This works fine with just one exception.

The tiniest of movements with the analogue stick result in quite rapid movements in the steering, especially close to the centre point. This results in a very twitchy drive and lots of fish tailing due to over-correction during slides.

I've made several attempts in the options menu to 'de-sensitise' the steering and I've also tried to find a way to increase the free play at the centre point in the steering but without much success so far.

I suspect I might not be getting the correct combination of steering adjustments to solve the problem, so I was wondering if anyone here might be ale to suggest anything I should try.

I know a wheel is probably the best way to go, but I can't afford one right now (just recently became an S2 Licence holder :woohoo.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

OK, thanks for the replies everyone. Much appreciated.

So, can anyone tell me, when I see other cars disappearing and/or teleporting around the track, is that because of my high ping rate or theirs?
dungbeetle

Quote from jaws99 :What actually is ping? I know that the lower the ping is the better the connection but what does it mean?

If my understanding is correct, I believe it's an indication of the communication (time) lag between client and host (i.e. your computer and the computer that's hosting, in our case, the race.)
Ping rate question

In your experience, what would you guys say is he highest acceptable ping rate for on line racing.

The reason I ask, is that I want to know how far down the server list I can go without experiencing lag problems.

Thanks Smile

Quote from dawesdust_12 :On the Graphics menu, at the bottom do you have HVS enabled? I think that may have something to do with it possibly.

Aaaah!

Well, HVS was enabled BUT just below that is a 'no car shadow' option which, yes you've guessed it, was enabled!

Thanks for the help guys

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Thats false, the only difference between S2 and demo is the amount of content. In the Graphics menu, there should be a shadow quality menu, there is 3 settings, Off, Low-Res and High-Res, make sure it is set to Low or High (depending on your PC Specs)

Thanks for that.

Seems I may have a problem then, 'cos I've set shadow quality to High-Res but I still don't get any car shadows - strange.
[SOLVED] Newbie Demo Question (Car shadows)
dungbeetle

Hi there,

Can someone please tell me, is it possible to enable car shadows on the demo?

I've gone through all the menus (I think ) and cant find a way to enable them.

Or maybe there are none on the demo?

Are there car shadows on the licensed version?

Thanks
