Quote from Forbin :Try increasing the pressures with R1's, all the way to max if you have to. R1's aren't really overheated until they get up to about 85-90 degrees, especially since they'll cool down a lot as they wear down.

Ah, OK.

Same method, but the other way 'round, eh?

Cool. I'll give that a go too.

Thanks, Forbin

Just a quick bit of feedback after messing with pressures.

Dropping to 19psi front and 16psi rear (doing around 1:39s to 1:40s), internal temps were as follows:

After 3 laps: cold blue starting to turn turquoise on rhs tyres (mostly left hand turns on South City Long).

After 5 laps: turquoise starting on all tyres, more on rhs tyres as expected.

After 10 laps: rhs tyres turquoise, lhs tyres blue/turquoise.

This is much better. Just stone cold blue before.

Might try even lower pressures and longer runs when time permits, but still very driveable at these new settings.

Thanks for the pointers guys.

Thanks guys.

OK

So going with the pressures then, what should I roughly be looking at?

Say, drop the pressures by 10% (2-3psi) at first and maybe more later if handling is still OK?

Hi T

Thanks for the reply.

Quote from tristancliffe :
If you drive extra agressively and get the tyres warm (using too much steering in the first lap or two), will they stay warm after that, or do they cool back down?

To be honest I haven't tried that, but when I drive aggressively on cold tyres I usually spin out!

I'll give it a go though, to see what happens.

The thing is, even after 10+ laps, it just feels like the tyres aren't gonna get any hotter. The surface temp seems to go green but the internal temps won't budge.

Maybe they only warm up inside during GP leingth races i.e. 50-60 laps. Even so, most tyres irl normally warm up after 10 or so laps don't they?
Advice on tyres please

I'm driving the FOX on South City Long.

Things are fine on R1 tyres for the shorter races, i.e. 5-10 laps.

For races longer than this, I find that the R1 tyres are not really suitable as they tend to overheat/wear out after 8-10 laps.

So, I change the tyres to R2s which have a higher optimum operating temperature (85 degrees). Obviously the plan is, that although they will take longer to reach operating temperature they will last longer without overheating.

Now, the R2 tyres do last much longer but the problem is I can't seem to get them up to optimum operating temperature. South City (as you all know) is quite twisty, so I would have expected the tyres to warm up without too much trouble.

To give an indication of the kind of speeds I'm doing, when I'm playing offline against the Pro AI (experienced) I'm usualy giving the lead car a run for it's money. Not WR pace I know, but surely quick enough to warm the tyres up - no?

How do I get the R2 tyres up to temperature?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Quote from Becky Rose :The centre mirror does not quite show the whole rear view render area, the side mirrors go a bit further.

Is that so?

Hmm ... sorry 'bout that then.

Maybe I'm thinking of the virtual rear view mirror.

Quote from Leprekaun :No, not really. When a driver may attempt to pass you and is side by side, you most likely won't see him in your rear view mirror but in your side mirror.

Yeah, I know what you mean L.

That is certainly true in real life, but I thought that in LFS the graphics work in such a way that the side mirror views are actually the same view as the centre mirror that's been split in two and enlarged slightly.

Next time you play, compare the right hand side part of the rear view mirror with what you can see in the right side wing mirror. If I remember correctly, they're the same. I don't think you get any extra angle of view from the side mirrors.

Aren't the two wing mirrors simply the centre mirror view split in two?

Quote from Gil07 :I loved the MRT with my gamepad. Haven't driven it since I got my wheel though.

You've got to try it, Gil.

If you enjoyed it with the 'pad, you'll love it with the wheel.

It's a real blast!

I really like the MRT.

I love the 'immediacy' of it. Everything happens quick, especially the steering and braking. I get a real buzz when I drive it. I like it best around the twisty city circuits with all the lumps, bumps and manhole covers. A real bum-scrapin' rush!

I must admit though, I've only really taken to it since getting a wheel. The MRT with a gamepad was just a bit too 'on the edge'.

So I'd be interested to know, would a kart be just more of what I described above, or are there quite distinct differences in handling?

Quote from HVS5b :What about us thickies who don't even know what a cfg file is, never mind how to change parameters on one

Any chance of a run-thru for non-techy types, pls!

Just to clarify, I want the pitstopper, but not the two other add ons.

Thanks in advance

After installing LFSRelax, open up the LFSRelax.cfg file in notepad.

As an example, scroll down to the line that says 'EnableTSView = true' and change this to 'EnableTSView = false'. This will disable TSView.

Save the LFSRelax.cfg file before exiting.

EDIT: Sorry - already covered elsewhere. [Note to self: Read the WHOLE thread next time before replying!] :slap:

Suggestion: Bring your brake pedal into the same room as your throttle pedal, it will make it easier to move your foot between them.

Aaah, right ... and that might also explain why I crash so much!

Now I come to think of it, I do usually crash while I'm off getting the brake.

Thanks for that m8.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Nice move.

Out of interest: Your pedal movements are weird - why do you lift off the throttle but not start braking until a few seconds later, even when braking in a straight line?

Dunno!

Never really thought about it.

Might be 'cos I've only recently started on the MRT's and that's the first time I've been 'round that particular track configuration. Maybe I'm coasting in places looking for the bends and the braking points ... or, maybe I'm just weird!

Now you've mentioned it, I'll have to go back and have another look myself!

The DBP Team Server 2 were running MRT's on SO Sprint 2 Rev tonight.

I was so desperate to shake Rob off my tail, that I decided to pull this little stunt .

For the best view make sure you're on board with Rob during lap 2.

Also, I dont like riced out LX cars, so, LX"R" ftl, sorry. (Through I know what you're saying...i belive downforce/ slicks will "ruin" the essense of these cars... but that's just my personal opinion.)

Know what you mean. It's their 'tail happy' nature than makes them different and challenging to drive. Take that away and you might lose the car's unique character.

Quote from Gil07 :No. I don't even know how to change that

When you go to "View" and select "custom" at the top, (not when on an 'F' server, obviously) they are the X, Y and Z offset sliders at the bottom.

Yeah, when I joined an 'F' server yesterday, all the axis sliders were removed.

I could only adjust the FOV and the mirror.

Heh, heh. You wait. The way things are going 'round here, it'll be "don't mention the 'F' word", soon.

Quote from ajp71 :... IMO the vertical movement should be restricted to the current level or lower, so those that like a possibly more realistic experience can get it but no one ends up on the roof. IMO pillars and so on should be in everyones way so bonnet views are out of the question.

Point taken about on the roof (and the 'T' cam, tristancliffe ) views, but you may be over reacting a little on the vertical movement thing.

When my dear little ol' mum drives, she can barely see over the wheel. However, I am much taller than she, and therefore legitimately have a slightly higher perspective on things.

Without at least some upward vertical adjustment, am I forever destined to drive like my mum! (Hey, and no smart comments about I already do, OK! )
