Bug on driver change

This was found driving XRG on an open layout of Fern Bay. When someone takes over the car and you spectate them in driver view, the notice that comes up when you leave the pit garage (direction of travel and 80 km/h) appears on the screen at instances around the track. It doesn't appear for the driver.

I think there are higher priorities than teaching about computer game lag in schools. Wink If I remember rightly, new people can't go on cargame.nl s2 and have to grind on cargame.nl s1 to "unlock" cars or have I remembered that wrong?

There are players in ab.nl that are from outside europe (Canada, Indonesia, there was a regular Australian player for years) and yeah there are occasional problems on the first lap as the races are 45 mins and the players are regulars then incidents aren't that common and once the field has spread it's barely a problem. Only people that have real probs I've seen is Iran, their Internet appears to perform like dogshit without exception.

I do agree that Australians should get together if only for reasons of time convenience.

Unless you do leagues, you're kinda stuck with demo servers which are full of people who haven't paid for the game so spend all their time doing 3 lap races with one combo, which is why they often have bad attitude (not tarring all with same brush though). If you can, I'd recommend racing at the league I race in at http://absolute-beginners.nl which is weekly races but that's early Monday morning for you.

I don't understand why any game devs would announce content when entitled pricks on forums constantly use any announced content as a rod to beat them with.

it has actually pit stop only in the multiplayer.

look like the success of AC are pissing off some people here Uhmm, but you like it or not it's still a good example to how a platform play a great role to make your game successful even if you are independent.Petals

I sit corrected on the pit stop. Why would the success bother me? I bought the game and I am quite happy for it to be as good or better than LFS but it's not and that's just a fact, no matter how many people play each game. Scawen and Eric have put off releasing more paid for content for years whilst the base game that everyone has already paid for is worked on and perfected to their liking. Kunos released a version 1.0 without even basics for sim racing and are already on their second DLC. That's the difference in the attitude of the two sets of devs. But instead of appreciating that, armchair experts keep on creating threads where they tell them how to run their business.

Not much going on there heh.. Cannot get that enthousiastic about those numbers.. 4, 5 servers with some attention and thats it.

sure would rather race on those servers than be forced to choose between one S2 server that actually runs races that is always full and 300 demo servers where i can race the same combo i've raced since 2006. AC has leagues just like LFS and those servers are not run 24/7

apples to oranges if you ask me

edit: i just read your posts on this page above, please take your blinders off. you know literally nothing about AC, its coding, or its league activity Rofl

Quote from englishlord :a jerky 30-40fps

So do you think when you go see a movie at a theater the movie is "jerky" because standard cinema frame rate is still 24 FPS unless you go see IMAX which then is only 48 FPS. This stupid bickering over frame rate and LFS performance is stupid. If you can't achieve decent FPS in a 12 year old simulator, UPGRADE YOUR HARDWARE.

If you can afford to buy a G27 or an Oculus Rift then you can afford to buy a decent graphics card. Stop making the developers waste time on new things like your poor performance related to outdated hardware.

@Lfs Devs. You can purchase an AMD FX CPU and a current generation NVIDIA graphics card that will gladly give you more than 100 FPS in LFS for really really cheap now. Stop catering to the few and start advancing this simulator that has been stalled of any major progress for years now.

As far as I was aware, the problems had to do with CPU rather than graphics card and as I have an 2.4ghz quad core which LFS only uses 1/4 of, then that's probably why I was having problems. I have a 2gb radeon 7870 card, the graphics setting weren't making a difference to FPS problems even when turned from high to low. So it seems to me, my performance was bottlenecking at the CPU. Should I feel obliged to upgrade my hardware even when the game doesn't use all of what I have efficiently? I don't think so and I shall upgrade when I want to, not because some random guy is whining on a forum because he didn't get the next imaginary car in a timely fashion and wants to moan at me for something I have no hand in. Honestly, if you have been on this forum more than a week and still think you can bark at the developers for their development speed and priorities with the notion they will give a shit, then you make yourself look like a proper plonker.

I don't know why the game was jerky when like you say movies use lower fps, maybe it because the frames run evenly whilst a game suffering performance problems does not. Nevertheless, the problem is fixed and I was thanking Scawen for doing so. I don't know why doing so pissed on your chips.

Quote from Ped7g :"No sleep". Unless you have single core CPU, or messed up OS, which keeps choking up (unresponsive during Alt+tab, etc..), then you may try "yes" to give task scheduler some more breath. But this one is probably obsolete thing of distant past. Hopefully.

The much more tricky question is fps limit vs vsync... wouldn't dare to give any general advice there, depends too much on HW and personal preference.

Thanks!

Excellent update, thank you Judging by the replay I watched of westhill races I have recently done it makes the difference from a jerky 30-40fps race start to a smooth 70fps minimum for me.

Generally, is it better to have sleep every frame as yes or no? I am not sure what it does.

Quote from Scawen :
Well... in a sense they are not properly utilized... if you mean that LFS isn't taking advantage of multiple cores? I'd like to do physics and graphics on separate threads at some point, but it's a big restructure and is some way down the (imaginary) priority list.

On the other hand if we accept that this is a single thread program for now, it does seem that a lot of CPU is used at some points and this can use all available CPU power, so limiting the frame rate without fully loading the GPU. Seems to be related to the large number of objects at Westhill and LFS doesn't yet have the optimisations to deal with that. I'll have that closer look again at those specific places.

In your case, is there any noticeable change from H to H2 / H2 to H3 or does it all seem much the same?

Having multi threading as a low priority is at odds with your usual support for people with older computers as being able to multi thread core is the main thing you could do to support them. I have a 2.4ghz quad core and, it's seven years old, works well with all but the very newest games and in races my frame rate drops to 20 fps on the first and last corners of the main track and as low as 15 fps on races around the roads. I realise you can do improvements to help performance as is but surely use of multiple cores would give headroom so even unoptimised tracks are at least playable. Presumably, all future tracks released will be of this quality so is there going to be a situation where people have to wait for ages after new content release before it's optimised to being playable?

Could there be a way to/does this automatically remove leagues after a certain period of inactivity? If a year or two down the line it's full of defunct leagues, then it will just replicate the problem of the leagues section in the forum
