At least for me if I was going online, I would look for a race server, not a cruise server and so on. But I guess you all are cruisers, and in that case, there are servers to chose from.

Looking at lfsworld and how the licensed racers are spread it's pretty even between race, cruise and drift. If enough people want to race in the manner you describe, why aren't they? The fact is leagues are often well attended, servers in the table are not. The devs do nothing to organise multiplayer, (as far as I know) they haven't "in da glory days" and don't do now. So if you want something, go and do it.

That said, personally I prefer league races than some silly F1 2014 5 lap scramble fest. I think the best of this sim is the league and endurance races. That's where the community and the tension and drama of competition is. I am not a cruiser and never will be but at least they're not on the forum complaining because they've got nobody to cruise with because they haven't got their act together.

Using OpenGL is not about supporting Linux. Using the earlier analogy It's a steering wheel that drives on more tracks than DirectX, it will drive on any track because it's not limited by a vested interest.

What complexity and to whom? It wouldn't make an atom of difference to windows users. How would it be any more complex than WINE, a program where you often have to look through an online database to try and find which specific version of wine works with which specific program and if you happen to have two programs which require different versions of WINE, you're screwed. It's really no substitute for a native version.

There isn't a problem here! DirectX 9 runs on XP and later Windows and in Wine / Linux. I get to use my dual monitor setup for racing so I'm happy too! There's no problem, we're all fine!

There was no "problem" with Commodore 64 graphics, that's not really the point. XP usage is minimal in games (less than 6% of steam users) and WINE is not actually Linux support. I don't understand why you're keen to embrace this new Virtual Reality headset technology but stick to your guns in using 10 year old graphics tech in a game that is presumably years away from being finished? Did you support computers this old when LFS started? It seems an odd thing for a simulator game to not want to use new technology.

Windows XP support cycle ends in April this year, so unless you're going to release content before then, I am not sure the point of catering for an operating system where it be highly insecure to even connect to the internet and download the game updates.

Using OpenGL instead would be more appreciated for Linux users.

Yeah if you want a beginners cup, join absolute beginners cup. I've been driving that for just over a year most Sundays. The servers are up 24/7 with the upcoming combo, so you can join the weekdays, practice online, talk to and learn from the other drivers (early evening europe time is good to come on). I'm happy with that and doing one feature race a week. Maybe that makes me more of a fanboy that someone who runs a server.

Obviously there are a fair few people that have played the game for many years and got bored with the current content but there are still people signing up and people who aren't bored of it yet to drive with.
