Quote from WIGGA :You'll need a new Motherboard and maybe some new RAM. Your GPU is okay. Enough for LFS...

MoBo = Asus P5Q-E - i recommend you that one. (Best BANG for the buck)
RAM = 2x 1GB DDR2-800 - G.Skill, OCZ, Corsair, Kingston - should be okay for you.

Who are u talking to?

Quote from danowat :Plenty of modem routers here > http://www.ebuyer.com/cat/Wireless/subcat/Routers---ADSL

yes, modem routers.. but it aint a ROUTER.. its a modem, with a router in it.. and i have heard of like.. one of those on that site... anyway, what i meant with my first post was that u cant REPLACE a MODEM with just a ROUTER...

sorry if that wasnt clear

but yes ur right, if it has built-in router it works..

Quote from danowat :Because most (all?) ADSL routers have built in modems.

d-link dl604, is a broadband router. no modem in it. also have a dl624 wireless, no modem there either..

tbh i have never seen a router with built-in modem, on the other hand, telia and bbb here in sweden sends out modems with built-in routers... but thats another thing..

Quote from Bose321 :Pentium 4? Under what rock do you live? And your ram is at 666 instead of 667? Isn't that weird?

No it aint wierd, as the comp is overclocked, and to keep the ratio the memory is underclocked a little.. i can also set it at 668mhz, nothing wierd about it...

oh and yes, i have a p4. its clockable, stable and cool(temp). i can clock it to 4ghz with no worries about heat, and not having to give it a notch more voltage. and as i dont have a fortune to spend on computer parts i tend to upgrade it little by little.. and as my proc dont bottleneck LFS i dont really care about what i have.. i get about 80 fps with full grid in lfs, about 240fps when not so many cars.. good for me, as i dont really care if my comp kicks the crap out of everyone elses.. i have my comp to play on. not to compete with someone else...

Quote from danowat :Dunno about cable routers, maybe you do need to keep the modem, with ADSL ones, they replace the modem

Whatever, it's pretty straight forward and simple to do.

how can a router replace the modem?

The router connects to the modem, to serve as a switch with name translation. meaning: you can connect more than one pc to your internet as the router "routes" the info to the corresponding pc. which inturn makes u being able to have two pc's sharing one ip to the Net.

You can NEVER replace the modem (if u dont get a adsl modem with built-in router) with a router as it cant connect neither to the telephoneline nor to the "cable-line"..

for you to use a router, for the most part, u need a modem that has a rj-45/patch cable port, so u can interconnect the two

hope it made any sense

Quote from franky500 :as much as i HATE to suggest a symantec program. The program you are looking for is Norton Ghost.. probably the only thing norton got right.

No matter what we have to tell everybody at PC World!

yupp. u got my vote here

Norton Ghost is probably the best (only) partition-backup program out there that really does what it says on the box...

But if you use manual clutch and removes the auto clutch, then try to idle speed the car.

+1
If not using the autoclutch, the car will drive away when in gear.
Have tried it myself, pretty fun actually :P

True True

But if the sound is to "bassy" cant u just change the "exhaust pipe tone" (or whats the name) inte the "SHIFT+A" section in-game? Should make it less bassy anyway

Quote from word. :This all depends on what gear ratio your first gear is set to. Most of the setups people use in lfs have unrealisticly tall first gear ratios (90km/h in first gear anyone?)

Try playing around with the gear ratios and you should be able to jump start all the cars.

Tbh, dont they teach people to bump start a car in 2nd? i mean, i would never try to do it in first.. thats just sick..

Quote from Nadeo4441 :No, try it in Z

Quote from steve30x :No it hasnt been like that forever. I had spokes and brake disks in Z but the new patches changed that. I have been playing LFS with 4 years I should know by now.

Quote from Bass-Driver :same here

Quote from steve30x :Heres my proof. Same car , track and graphics settings

LFS S2 Z8 no spokes or disks

LFS S2 Z spokes and brakes

Quote from steve30x :They may be drawn differently but it still doesnt mean that its not a bug. Only the developers can confirm what you have said.

Quote from steve30x :I got full view of the rims but the spokes are missing as well as brakes and calipers.

I think its an epedemic.. NOBODY can read.. the RIMS have NEVER been seen in wheelview.. END.

I think it´s only good that the disc is gone tho, i mean.. how often do u drive ur real car and use that view + see ur brakediscs?

Force view? thats the "user view" as standard.. i also WONDER why the discs are removed from that view.. fun to now nevertheless..

Quote from Luke.S :You''d be better buying a moniter wth a 1920x1200 resolution. That is full HD.

Something like this http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=609794

1920x1200 aint FULL HD... 1920x1080 if FULL HD..

EDIT:
Quote from Jakg :...except "Full HD" (misnomer) would be 1920x1080 (1080p/i)

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :It looks very nice.

However, when the new patch comes out this week, the DiscATEST file will no longer be used, you have to use DISCDRILLEDALP24 and DISCSOLIDALP24.

Well tbh, if u look closely to the XRT (only one i've looked at) it already uses the new brakedisc texture.. but it aint round... its still a square, tho it rotates now :P

Quote from JohnUK89 :You'll need a much better PSU than that - 650W just isn't gonna cut it for 2 quads and 2 GTX280s. I'd be looking more like double that (or even higher). Other than that, it should totally tear through 3DS Max and LFS on a GTX280 is a dream. Also, you'll need FB-DIMM RAM instead of unbuffered.

EDIT - realised the mobo will only take 667MHz RAM - duh The FB-DIMM thing still applies though!

FB-DIMM, is that like those ECC crap? :P will have a look at it btw

Quote from Riders Motion :That sure look like a cool system but aint it a bit too over-the-top? I mean, you could get something more normal and it that would handle most games and stuff for 2-3 years... This system will be good for like 4-5 years but if you're like me, you will upgrade in 2-3 years anyway so why not get a system that's ok to handle today's stuff and wait until a quadcore is really needed to run games and all?

Just my 0.02$

Also, good (or fast or whatever...) ram is 1066MHz and up, that motherboard does not support that kind of ram...

Edit: John UK beat me.

Well, the thing is i want to be able to render on one machine instead of two as i do now, + the ones i have now suck :P

Quote from JohnUK89 :You obviously didn't read the Op properly - he's going to be doing a lot of rendering, which is primarily CPU based (and scales VERY well to multiple threads). So I'd say an octo-core machine wasn't over the top of he is doing that as the primary use for the machine

Sure, 8 cores might be a little over anyway, i mean, i dont do renders in 145345x.. whatever, u get what i mean :P but i kind of want the stuff to happend fast, and reliable. tho im not sure why i got a server chassie, mobo and proc :P just a fun thing i guess.. oh yeah... dual proc's thats why.. didnt find anything else where i could put in 2 procs

Quote from james12s :one thing to be careful of is cooling, im not sure if the resorator will be up to it

Yeah, i just put that there so everyone could see that i was going for water and not air or something exotic
