Quote from MadCatX :LTWheelConf should not be needed at all. In fact, because the entire FFB support has been moved into the kernel, LTWheelConf cannot work properly anymore. You should be able to set the range via the kernel interface by writing the desired range into

/sys/module/hid_logitech/drivers/hid:logitech/*:*/range

.

*Hijack*

Yeah, setting range to <whatever> seems to work, but how do you set the actual force feedback? For example, when running over a rumble strip in Windows I get feedback in the wheel, but in Linux it's completely dead. Perhaps this is not supported?

(I also, in desperation tried [...] --gain 100 --device /dev/input/event23, but that didn't help.)

Quote from Scawen :I'm sure that supported software with security patches will be safer for the average Joe. I feel quite negative about Windows 7 because in every day life it seemed to be throwing obstacles into my path with nearly every step I tried to take.

I've quietly been following the Windows * discussion, trying not to fuel anyone's fire, but here goes:

Quote from The Register :Microsoft has left Windows 7 exposed by only applying patches to its newest operating systems.

Researchers found the gaps after they scanned 900 Windows libraries and uncovered a variety of security functions that were updated in Windows 8 but not in 7.

Redmond is patching Windows 8 ... ows 7, say security bods

Anyway, I guess most Linux users would advocate a OpenGL version rather than dx-anything. But I can't even start to imagine how much work it would be to rewrite the whole darn thing.

By the way, just spent two nights in a row racing FBM on demo servers after about 2 years not racing at all. 0.6E though, will try the latest patch tonight. Good fun!

Edit: Just tried LFS 0.6E17 in wine-1.7.18. It ran "fine" after using winetricks to install DX9, but not nearly with the same performance as in windows (but that is to be expected, I guess?).

Sorry about this bump ...

Anyway, apparently this game is on sale over at Humble Bundle so I grabbed a copy and played it for about 5 minutes before I *really* messed up the FFB somehow.

Whenever I change gears my G25 rattles so much that I'm afraid to bother my neighbors.

I believe my windows settings are still LFSified (screenshot attached) but this does not appear to be working well in game even after hitting the reset defaults button.

Would someone please share their G25/G27 setttings? Windows as well in game, if you don't mind ...

Quote from LNB-Hosting :Having trouble with your browser and you got lots of advertisement, don't worry and keep calm, you can purchase this evening a code for MalWareByte to removed the damn bad virusses and malware trash. You will have after scanning and deleted all the items that MalwareByte detected, after you have did that you have no problems with your browser. LNB-Hosting will purchase for you a code and you will still enjoy your browser.

A code costs €19,99 Yearly.

Blacklist IP Blocker.

Advertising your own services, fine. But this is a bit too spammy, no?

Not a bad idea.

This would be beneficial also from an SEO perspective. The last time I checked the search industry agreed on that a page that change often is likely to be more frequently visited by search engines. Which consequently can lead to a boost in page rank.

I did a quick look at the posts, words frequently used are "racing" and "sim". So such an addition could make sense. But I suppose the "Community" LFS News should be differentiated from the "official" LFS News somehow.

Edit: After this statement a "follow us on twitter" (or whatever) link would be relevant, also?

Quote from brandons48 :Also if you have spare gift keys for games in the bundle, post them here also!

On the "Click here for your Steam keys" page there is a discouraging paragraph:

Quote :
Steam will not provide extra giftable copies of games you already own.
All purchases are for your personal use only.

But trading is in fact officially legit!

If anyone missed it, there was quite a debate regarding trading/gifting individual keys (rather than gifting a complete bundle) a couple of months ago.

As a result, HB updated their terms of policy and even implemented a gift button for each individual Steam key.

Quote :We’ve just rolled out an experimental feature that allows you to send extra games on Steam to someone else by clicking the gift icon next to the game on your download page. We and the developers we work with trust that our awesome customers will keep spreading the Humble way by sharing extra games with those who will appreciate it.

Quote from MadCatX :I did a quick test with the WINE 1.7.11 and opensousdafrce drivers on Intel HD3000 and Radeon 6400M. As far as I could see there were no problems.

Hmm, I'm having some issues with wine-1.7.11.

LFS is complaining about not being able to open jpeg files. For example:

Can't open : AX_ADS1.jpg

Tried with a clean install of LFS with the 6E12 exe and dll added only.

It still runs though (but without the jpegs, obviously).

Fordie

Yup the S1H7 download available in the LFS Download archive seems to work great.

So will we set any start times for "big" races or will we just be doing pick up races during the weekend?

AMERICA IS SUPREME GREATEST COUNTRY IN WHOLE PLANET! GREAT SAFETY. SUCH VICTORY. SO WOW.

A tragedy, obviously. But sigh ...

Fox 13, must be a novelty channel, right? The way they present the news (especially the voice of the narrator and what they stress) reminds me of, well, Cops. Moreover, they detail the shooter. The Cynical Brit highlights the problem with that and similar issues in a good way.

Quote from sti228 :I don't understand why in this forum so many people think that i am from Mars and i can't use google ? It's because i am for Georgia ? Really ? I asked 2 questions. I don't need systems explain... And before ask here i read all topics about ban with ip address and don't find answer how to do this with windows firewall. Also as i said firewall block my server when it's turn on and can't find any way to start server when it's turn on (not off).

Windows 7?

Try this (attachment).

Well, what first comes to mind is firewall configuration.
  1. Configure your firewall to DROP or REJECT all incoming requests FROM the offending IP(s) or IP-range(s).
  2. LIMIT the number of NEW connections (to the targeted port(s)).
  3. Configure your firewall to DROP or REJECT incoming UDP requests TO the targeted UDP port(s) (not a good idea if you have vital servers listening on any given port/interface.
Hard to give any practical advice with the little amount of information given.

You are likely to be given more advice if you provide information regarding your issue (circumstances, firewall software, extent of the attack, etc).

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Really appreciate it!

I've decided to bin/gift everything that doesn't work in my current rigs and, obviously, everything that is way old (CBA to sell stuff for just a couple of bucks, even though it'd surely add up).
Also I decided to keep only one or two copies of stuff that I've got many of (computer power cables, for example -- 10+. Sheesh!).

Hahaha, awesome! I hear now is not the best time to (mine) and sell gold, though.

So this is how I spend my evening off: Going through my old stuff:

It's a mess. I'm not sure what to keep, how to sort it, or even how to wind cables properly.

What's your thoughts on this? Any fellow geeks out there with good advice?

Quote from Shotglass :with the exception of one fairly expensive eizo those are all tn panels (ie junk)

Sure, sure. Absolutely worth taking into consideration, but ...

Quote from tristancliffe :[...] gaming [...] Would like to spend as little as possible [...]

For gaming, a TN screen will give Tristan more bang for the buck. But I just realized 120 GBP might not even be enough for a 120+ hz TN monitor. :\

Quote from HenkkaWRC :Also, if you are mainly playing games, like LFS, which arent graphically so demanding, or you have good graphics card, you should consider buying a monitor that has high refresh rate (120Hz or 144Hz) so you could get the optimal experience.

Quoted for truth.

Quote from Whiskey :U2312HM

Quote from JazzOn :U2312H

Ugh, both just 60hz. To avoid tearing (vsync off) or capping the game to 60fps (vsync on) I'd definitely recommend a 120+ hz monitor.

Dell, without a doubt make great monitors. Perhaps consider looking at alternatives that support more than 60hz.

FWIW I'm very happy with my BenQ XL2420T.
