Quote from jtr99 :Possibly I'm going to get flamed for even mentioning a console game in a positive light here, but the PS2 game "World of Outlaws" (a surprisingly good dirt-track sprint-car simulator) did a nice job of this, although in a very simple way. As the various sessions passed over the course of a racing day (practice, qual, heat race, etc.) the appearance and grip levels of the track would change and this would mean that by the end of the day the fastest line was in a significantly different place than it was at the beginning. (This was a great way to make racing on a short-track dirt oval more interesting and challenging, although the really casual user might not have noticed it.)

Now of course this was all achieved through "canned effects", and what was really happening was that racing occured across five or six subtly different tracks as time went on. Nevertheless it was a cool effect and something similar could surely be done on an LFS rally-X track without the sort of CPU-intensive graphical issues that actual modelling of bumps and ruts would involve.

but you can't compare a dirt oval with rallycross tracks. especially the transitions from dirt to mud/gravel and vice versa. there are too many different lines on a rallycross track with the different cars. the 'damage' these cars deal to the track is also very different.

don't get me wrong, i would like to have something like this, but i don't think it's possible yet.

first of all i would like to have a nice simulation of the dirt on the tarmac.

well, then tyres should screech on mud, gras and sand too .

i think that car could compete in the LRF class on tarmac. it would be nice to have such an AWD...aaand it would be a blast on rx-tracks .

I also wonder if the UK tradition of attending a university that's a long way from home has anything to do with it. Do Germans tend to stay nearer to home and take courses at a local institution? If so those Germans of university age might be more available for league racing.

germans stick to the "tradition" to move their homes to the city where the university is they are attending .

nice to read. nkpro looks great. but i don't understand why there are no lfs-league results in the magazine. it's not that lfs doesn't have (semi-)professional leagues.

i think 'himself' has some valid points and i don't understand these "so buy gpl instead" answers.

lfs is a great game (the only simulation i am playing), but it lacks the feeling of driving a 490HP monster around a racetrack.

despite the facts figured out in this thread, i am sure the force dynamics produces a great feel of immersion. maybe the first minutes will feel a little odd, but i think the driver will adjust.

i drove the big outrun arcade when i was ten and i thought i would nearly fall out of the machine in fast corners . i think human senses can be tricked very easily :P.

@android
yes that's right. because the sum of the forces you are experiencing in a force-dynamics seat cannot exceed the 1G + some forces from rotation movements. yep i get that.

thats why i said "they are similar" but "not as strong". in fact accelerating in a force-dynamics must feel like accelerating over a hill or something similar because you are lift off your seat. there is definately some force missing there.

@george:

got it.

Quote from Hyperactive :What do you mean?

it means that my english skills are definately not good enough for this discussion :P.

i think B2B@300 understood what i meant.

what i wanted to say: if we had no windows in our car and would have a constant acceleration of 1 g we wouldn't notice a difference from lying on the floor.

but i guess you already gave that example :P.

i am confused now and stick to reading this stuff .

aren't the forces in the force dynamics quiet similar (they aren't obviously not as strong) like the forces affecting us in a real car? aren't the forces we experiencing the values the matter (the we really can feel)?

we aren't really noticing acceleration in a sealed car, do we?

but do we as humans really feel the accelaration or the force that produces the acceleration? i tought it's more about the forces that effect us and in that matter _force_ dynamics is quiet right with their idea, or not?

the argument "my IQ is such high therefore i must be right and you are wrong" is the weakest argument of it all.

i really would like to get a real explaination, why a _simulator_ like force dynamics can not work.

i honestly think it is the best way to do it. enlighten me .

Quote from Daedelus :All, this might be worth mentioning again:
There is very little chance of any major car manufacturers giving the devs licence to add their cars to our sim. It's just about certain that if they did, the cost of the game would increase rather quickly to cover royalties. Some smaller racing team/low quantity makers may be easier to get on board though.

SO: Rather than asking for specific cars, ask for a car with a feature and/or look.

So, something that resembles a classic V8 muscle car, that's well within the relm of possibility, but sadly, my old fave, the 67' Plymouth Fury isn't really an option. At the other side of the motoring community, my all time favorite, the Mazda RX-8 is even less likely to make it, as it's still in production. It's a shame, but that's the way it is.

Peter

it's easier to post a picture of a real car to express what i want. i think nearly everyone knows that it is very unlikely to get exactly one of these cars in lfs.

but often a picture of a real says more than 1000 words. we already have lots of lookalikes in lfs and i am sure we will have more. you can write line after line to explain that you want a car like an lx6 or just post a picture of a caterham.

I'm fairly sure Skylines have got 4WS but which ever system you choose it'll be some complex setup specific to a manufacturer.

fortunately there are much more interesting cars with 4ws.

how about a Trophée Andros car? If i get one of these, i will stop demanding a division 1 rallycross car .

well, the fernbay rallycross tracks definately have some 'real' tarmac corners.

but i agree that the rallycross tracks in lfs could be optimized. a normal rallycross track has more tarmac than mud.

Quote from Bruce314 :MPR qualification : MPR Qualifizierung
New qualification : Neue Qualifizierung
QUALIFICATION : Qualifizierung
RACE : Rennen

As French answering in English about a German question, this may be somehow wrong ;-)

it's not really wrong, but it is odd to use "Qualifizierung" for that.

MPR qualification : MPR Qualifikation
New qualification : Neue Qualifikation
QUALIFICATION : Qualifikation
RACE : Rennen

It's more common to use "Qualifikation" there .

this is awesome, with some longer shots (like the ones you did in the preview movie), online broadcasts could be definately improved a lot! it's more tv-like.

it would be nice to be able to switch the camerafiles during play. so you could use a special configuration for lap 1 (especially turn 1) to focus on the whole drivers field.

after lap one you can switch to a more "zoomed in" configuration.

i can understand him.

i am racing not very often, because i have little time and i am often too tired. but when i want to race online, i see that most servers have track/car combos that i really don't like. i don't like the slicks and how they heaten up. i especially don't like formula cars and the oval.

so, i browse through the server list and find some interesting combos with racers on the server. guess what? password protected. it seems that if some ppl want to try something different they have to protect themselves. tough luck for me!

when i found a public server i haven't had problems with wreckers at all. but 75% of the times i want to race, the only interesting ones are closed.

most of the public streetcar servers are driftserver (>_<), the only rx server i often find is a stuntserver (wahhhhh!!!).

if you aren't that involved in the community it's difficult to find some nice races.
