A tough choice. Buying either one will make you want the other.
But if you are used to driving the demo with the gamepad, and can do alright, then probably go for S2, as the demo will still be the demo, with or without a wheel.
You can learn the various tracks, drive all the different cars, and generally see how much more fun the full S2 is compared to the demo.
There are some people who do quite well without a wheel, and if I had to choose, I'd go for the game content first.
I wouldn't mind seeing three wheelers - provided that they were previously four wheels up until the driver ran into another car, or the wall.
When that level of damage is implemented, I wonder if they'll include tethers on the open wheel cars immediatly, or wait for the flood of
"I keep getting knocked out of races by cars crashing at the back and throwing their wheels at me.
And I can't help the manner in which I'm trying to get my point across. That's just the way I am... Get used to it, or ban me from the forum.
Just don't ban me from the game!!
Of course you can help the manner in which you try to get your point across, what are you, a robot ? Apparently, you choose not to, which is an entirely different matter, and entirely your decision.
This is exactly the point. It is a multiplayer game. What you might not understand about all the '@#$@!'s ' crying is that a lot of people do intentionally join servers just to make trouble, and a lot of other people remain oblivious to common courtesy after months of racing.
So people may spend all day trying to find a clean server in which to
race ( the whole point of the game). You may have all the good intentions, and you do have the right to 'learn', but if you haven't yet learned, for example, to use your mirrors, to stay out of the way when you are 10 seconds off the pace, or even learned the line well enough to know how to stay out of it when cars approach and you see 'blue flag'
then you should not be surprised that people get aggravated.
The bottom line is, if you focus on being aware of what's going on around you, join the pack AFTER they've passed, and are a little careful, initially, about what you say and how you say it, you'll find a lot of people available that can and will help you. That is how everyone progresses in LFS, with a little help from some friends.
If you rant and rave, you'll just be assumed to be another trouble maker, and will be banned from every server you join, because as I said, it happens everyday.
Again, it's a multiplayer game, which means you have to consider more than whats going on in your mind. You'll never change the process, but you can be smart and adapt yourself to it, and you won't have these problems.
A little indian brave who before he was ten,
Played wargames in the woods with his indian friends
And he built up a dream that when he grew up
He would be a fearless warrior indian cheif
Many moons past and more the dream grew strong until
Tomorrow he would sing his first warsong and fight his first battle
But something went wrong, surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night
Hmm. I've used a Logitech Momo and a G25 with LFS, and all I did was
install the drivers, calibrate it in Windows, then go the to the game
and set it up.
Other than making sure (in windows) that Gas and Brake are set up as seperate axis, all should have to do is go into LFS controls setup, assign
the gas, brakes, shift functions, and set the Force Feedback to your liking.
Depending on how many buttons are on the wheel, condering setting up two for the left / right view, maybe one for reset and one for pit limiter.
While it can be argued the LFS isn't the greatest racing sim that could ever exist, it's certainly the best that does exist, by a long shot.
The Dev's take a lot of crap, which I suppose is unavoidable when you are
dealing with a forum such as this - anyway, it's good when they can get
some recognition. They do what the believe in, which is pretty rare.
I find it interesting that there is frequently this artificial division drawn between 'fast lappers' and 'racers'.
Sure there are idiots that want to be fast in front of a captive audience, and will do anything to achieve this. The majority of the faster drivers I've
raced with have been the cleanest drivers as well - clean because clean is fast, and clean because they understand the big picture, and don't suffer
the 'hey look what I just did' mentallity of having to be fastest driver on the track.
But, racing is about winning, or at least doing the best you can.
And winning requires you to go faster than the other cars in the field.
If you don't, you probably won't win, without some odd bit of luck.
These people spamming BLUE FLAG and expecting the world to curl around
their whims are annoying to be sure, but so are people who are not in the race, laps down, not following the same line for two consecutive laps, and
gunning their way into turn one to race someone who's 3 laps ahead.
It's too weird to try to force the issue into 'there are real racers, and then there are just fast lappers'. It's more a case of there are intelligent people and idiots on both sides of the argument.
It has been a while since any major graphic upgrades, I'll grant you.
I understand that's huge in some peoples minds, but in others ( mine included) the graphics barely enter into the picture ( no pun intended).
I don't watch the scenery as I'm racing. I don't look at the dash to see
if the 8 track is still playing ( pun intended).
I don't watch replays and think 'look how beautiful my car looks as it passes that tree'.
Compared to most current sims I've seen, LFS graphics are pleasant and non-obtrusive.
I agree with DWB, the reason LFS keeps me coming back after 3 years is
the game play - it's just fun to pop on and race wheel to wheel, and know what the car is going to do in most instances.
It's all moot in the end, just another opinion. I'm just a bit surprised at times that people get so worked up about graphics.
I would like to see more content, specifically more tracks. More cars would be nice, but I don't drive all of the current ones. The amount of tracks are fine up to now, or a least recently, but it would be nice to have about
half a dozen fresh alternatives, as thats what really makes the game interesting, imho.
When I read your initial post, I didn't intend to comment, but it was obvious that you were looking to stir the pot.
But a valid point is raised. For most people, if they get tired of playing a game, they stop playing it. Saying that you're tired of playing it is
not exactly newsworthy to the rest of the community, is it?
The fanboy response is so far off the mark, that it only proves the point
that you are, indeed, just looking for controversy. Maybe you are bored
with all the other stunning Sims that have passed LFS by too ?
They should be reviewing Live For Speed- Online Racing Simulator, and mention it's well documented single player mode which is neither
the reason to buy it, nor high on the list of near future upgrades.
Why would it be that variable from turn to turn ?
I would think moderate brake heating would be applied in a linear fashion,
while the extreme situations would be more exponential.
It would be more a case of over using your brakes, having them fade, and
having less brake available until they cool off.
The tires don't change from one turn to the next (until you are at the extreme) - they get hot and you know you're losing traction, so you compensate. If you continue pushing them, they go off.
I don't agree that FF brake pedal is the determining factor in whether brake fade can be incorporated.
Actually I think it does, rather, gives you the right do do whatever you want to. If someone is paying the price of that particular server, or has been appointed to admin it by the person who is, then theres nothing else
to say. You don't have to race there.
It's not a democracy. And at least on the surface, it sounds like you were trying to be the hard ass, which is not going to leave you too many servers left in which you can join.
i.e. dont say things like 'you dont have to be a dick' to a person who holds
the abort button.
I had a similar problem to Becky's, but it was the first time it's happened, and it was with the 0.5W version, which I've used since it's release with no problems.
While racing online, I crashed and went to spectate mode. I got the chrome screen, but the race continuted, and I could see people typing comments.
I went to the garage, and everything was normal. I went back to spectate, and got the same chrome screen.
I went back to the garage, then used the 'pit' button. I was sitting in the garage and could see the track outside, but anytime I used the tab key to view other cars, I got the chrome screen ,and could not get rid of it until I used 'garage' and 'pit' tabs again.
Going from garage to spectate - always the chrome screen
Going from garage to pit - everything fine until I tried to view another car
This continued for 10 minutes, at which point I quit the game.
I'd seen the chorme screen occasionally flash on for a few seconds when waiting for a race to start, for example, but never before has it continued
like this.
There are good and horrible 'noobs'. There are great fast drivers and then there are people with few skills who can do little more than put together a fast lap, given a clean track.
It's basic human nature that makes people idiots ( or not ), not necessarily just experience or lack of it.
The stunning lack of knowledge as to how to make a proper pass is
the thing that really gets on my nerves of late.
I'd rather deal with passing a 'blue flagged noob' than have to constantly watch my mirrors and wonder if some idiot 6 cars back will interpret my braking move towards the apex as his opportunity carry 150 miles through the hairpin as his big moment to shine.
The unskilled fast lappers, or "FLOOBS", ruin races as often as the really idiotic noob driving around at 1/4th speed and using 4 lines at the same time. Maybe noobs graduate to floobs ?
We can at least be thankful that LFS isn't victem to the cheats and hacks
so many online games are riddled with. I hope S3 final never comes -it's good having the devs actively involved.
