Quote from cvearl :Jeevus! Does it get worse!?

C.

Not for you, but for your family and friends, it will be a loooong
winter.

I think Robert Palmer put it best:
"Might as well face it you're addicted to LFS".

Actually, it's amazing to think that the patch came out all the way back in April. Feels like yesterday....:weeping:

Quote from Bob Smith :Remember Scawen is continuously working, so more time without news surely means, there will be more news to tell when we do hear something.

So, the less you hear, the more you know ?

It would be nice to have a new patch for christmas, but other than new tracks (which seems unlikely), there isn't much I could complain about regarding the current state of the game. It's excellent.

Having said that, new sounds would be a huge bonus. And perhaps
something totally *unimaginable. That's it. Just new sounds, something totally *unimaginable, and a new track. But nothing else.

If you receive the blue flag, say coming out of T1 at Blackwood, and have made no effort to relinquish position to a faster car behind you by the time you reach the turn at the end of that long straight - you have little common sense, or racing sense.

Yes you might have to slow, as everyone is pretty fast on a straight, but there is no better place to let the pass occur, and you will definatly hold the person behind you up in the turn(s) ahead, and possibly end up causing both of you to crash.

On the other hand, same situation, but the slower car in front is battling another car directly in front of him for position, and I'm the faster car at the very back - I accept that there is a battle in front of me, and the only way I'm getting around is by some miracle / mistake , or incredible draft.
I can't expect them to stop their battle. It's going to be tricky to get by them, and I could lose a position because of this.

THATS racing. You can't always get around slower cars because you 'need' to. On the other hand, there is NO reason for a single slow car to hold up any faster car.

What is bewildering is the mid race joiners, who are several laps down and make no effort to relinquish a position, despite the fact that every other person on the track is well ahead, so it doesn't matter who's on their bumper, they are legitimately needing to get by.

I suspect that people not responding quickly ( or at all ) to Blue Flag messages have often not been in the position of being in front of a race for 90% of it, only to have it ruined by a slower driver with a blatant lack of common sense.

That's the problem with GT4. It turns everybody into pro racing drivers.

Quote from GP4Flo :Because in a FAQ you can easily find the solution to important question. In a manual you have to read through loads of pages first.

Or, you could search the manual for the keyword(s) you are interested in.

Word or Acrobat documents are searchable.

Someone who doesn't have time for that, as opposed to logging on the forum and reading through a help thread.....will probably be too busy starting a "When is Patch xxx coming out...I know there are 45 other threads, but I don't have time to read them" thread, anyway.

One is the real deal, the other is a pale, sad imitation.

One captures your imagination, the other makes you wonder "what's wrong with the world?"

One smells great, and the other smells like a chinese sweat shop.

Sorry. I thought the was the Real Christmas Tree vs Fake Christmas Tree thread.

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :@Don - that was really amazing; do you have more of these? Nice quality, nice shots.

Yes, that was impressive. I just watched it, and it immediatly made me want to play LFS.

If the GT4 guy isn't impressed with this, he's probably not really interested in the idea of a 'sim' to begin with.

Firstly, It is so insanely anti-productive to think of yourself as 'superior'. Not just at driving, but at any task. I won't mention the couple of dozen other words which this mentallity brings to mind.

Secondly, There is no reason to sugar coat this - the initial post is one of the stupidist I've read. I sincerely hope that if anyone ends up injured or god forbid, dead....by the results of this psychotic behavior, it's not an innocent bystander. I doubt the family members would be consoled by 'he was a noob...I was thinking 10 seconds ahead'.

The idea of having names for curves is good ( and has been pointed out, has been proposed many times).

The idea of doing it yourself, or by forum poll is pretty useless (as others have pointed out).

You can call any turn anything you want, but as the majority of people playing the game don't bother with the forum, they'll never know. They'll just have some guy screaming at them, out of the blue 'Don't call it T1, call it "Bob's Hot Dog Stand"...and threatening to ban them if they don't oblige.

If anyone were to name the various curves, it should be the Dev's, as they own them.

Once you introduce 'pay tracks', you start splintering LFS up, which isn't good for the game, or the players.

I suppose once the dev's declare their work done, with S3 final, and release the tools or rights for mods, the game will be free to disintigrate.

In the meantime, the game is great without real tracks, and will continue to be for X years

No, I don't have any interest in having 'real tracks'.

The LFS tracks are fine ( great, in fact), there just aren't enough of them...yet.

Quote from Korkki : Seems like every other sims drive pass LFS. Still waiting....
Korkki

Actually he's right. A number have driven past LFS on my desktop, directly into the Recycle Bin. Some at near light speed. A couple have gone by twice, thanks to 'patches'......*cough*

LFS is probably the slowest moving sim - icon on my desktop. It hasn't moved from the upper left most corner of my screen in nearly 3 years.

Mine arrived yesterday.

No flaws I can see - stiching is good, paddles aren't sharp, no excessive noise that I can detect, etc.

I absolutely love it. It's night and day compared to all the other wheels I've tried (granted they weren't as expensive).

I haven't bothered with the shifter yet, other than to verify it worked. I prefer paddles.

The lack of buttons on the wheel is not an issue ( for me ). Two on the wheel for 'look left' and 'look right', which is the most urgent reason to have buttons on the wheel. With the gearshift mounted next to the wheel, and the gearshift out of the way ( in reverse ), I just reach over and tap a button for 'reset' or 'speedlimiter', both of which I know I'm going to need ahead of time.

The four red buttons along the bottom are fine for smilies, 'good race', and "Sorry I only use DEFAULT SET" quotes.

I was expecting some minor issues, and have had none. I'm thrilled with the performance of it. The only issue is relearning how to drive with it. The brakes in particular take some getting used to. I've already improved two pb's on tracks I dont run that often ( no bad habits to break I guess). On tracks I'm highly familiar with, I'm within a few tenths, and it's honestly a case of me not believing I can do things I wouldn't have thought of with the momo racing wheel. I was actually able to drive - almost enjoy - the RAC.

NOTE:
I did have an issue loading the software - my computer wouldn't recognize the autorun, and when I searched the disk, I couldn't find an appropriate setup for 32 bit installation. Might be something to do with XP, or operator error, but the response time was unusually slow with the CD.

I went to the logitech site and d/l'd the latest software, and it installed with no problem. Prior to this, I skipped the profiler installation, and let XP detect the new hardware. It showed up as a DFP wheel, and I couldn't access the gated gearshift. The logitech file has all the drivers needed, if you should run into any similar problems.

Quote from tinyk :What about a Whippet? (no comments from the peanut gallery :razz It's a cute dog and very friendly.

~*~*~*~tinyk~*~*~*~

Whippets are incredibly sweet dogs. My cousin owns two, and it will probably be the next dog I get. Unfortunatly the local politicians (and my neighbors) get nervous when you own more than three dogs ( not sure why they don't have similar regulations on children).

Whippets aren't tiny, but are typically more laid back than many smaller dogs. You can't let them outside ANYWHERE without a leash, unless YOU can run 30 mph for 2-12 hours

Pugs are very sweet and intelligent dogs too, great with kids, not terribly hairy, very gentle natured. I understand they tend to snore, but you would too, if someone pushed your nose into your head.

Rubberbrush,

You might be off on your assumption of 'average income of lfs players over 30'.

I know I'm lucky. If a game comes out, I can buy it, and not lose sleep over it. I don't know that everyone who's purchased LFS could say the same.

Before you brought up income, you were referring to other people who had 'practice time'. I know a LOT of players who don't have endless free time to devote to the game, myself included. One thing that helps you improve is 'quality' practice, and you mentioned that you don't play on-line that much, I believe.

That's probably the quickest way to improve, albeit it's a catch 22 - you have to be online playing to meet people who are good drivers and people you can get along with. But, try to hook up with a couple friendly and skilled people. Find out when they typically join, and race WITH them.

I tend race against a very small group of people, usually 2-5 in a race, but they make me better, even if it's just chasing them (if noone is online I want to race with, I'll try a car I'm not familiar with). Jumping into a 20 car field of random people is usually more of an exercise in frustration than anything.

thisnametaken -

I can point you to many specific people in the US who don't have the delima of what to do with the wads of spare cash they have laying around at the end of the month. Crappy and non-crappy jobs notwithstanding.

Everything is relative ( except my parents).

I love the F08, but it's hard to find other people to race with.
Same with the BF1. Driving the cars alone and trying to get the most out of them is great fun.

Constantly being plowed into is not so much fun.

It probably depends on whether you play the game for entertainment, or play because you have a racing lust. I guess I fall into the latter category.

The car is feeding a lot of information, via audio, so I turn music off.
The ingame music is typically just boring loops, and if I was going to listen to something I really like, it would only distract me.

I'm a musician, and I have a hard time listening to 'background music'.
If it's not interesting, it can be annoying to me, and if it's interesting, I can't help but listen to it. Either way, not well suited to shaving off a few 10th's, in my case.
