The whole soundscape in LFS needs work, a lot of it. The sounds are a big part of immersion and most of them are missing in LFS and big part of the sounds that we have are quite basic.

Quote from Jakg :Disagree - my laptop uses ~1w more on 7 then XP, which sounds useless - but my laptop uses 7-8w in XP...

You are right. I was under the impression that 7 and even Vista had better power management than XP, but quick googling showed that 7, while better than Vista, is still a bit behind XP.

Just keep Windows 7. It has the best power management so your battery will last longer. Reduce the eye-candy if it feels sluggish and/or install more RAM.

Quote from Dalek0220 : Soon, it'll be £12 for about 10 more cars and 5 more tracks -- now does that seem like a ripoff?

'Soon' is probably quite optimistic

Besides you shouldn't buy S3 on a promise that there will be more cars/tracks in the future, because it isn't a promise.

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :geeman - other games have a ton more content when they are released, don't tell me Gran Turismo has only 20-something cars and 5 track environments...

Gran Turismos development team is huge compared to LFS' development team.
Not all games have huge amount of content.

Well, you can't just make patches appear from thin air. I am sure the devs are not intentionally delaying the patches.

Besides just look at other games. It's very rare there even is content patches after the initial release.

Adding another F1 does not make much sense tbh. BF1 is quite rarely used and most people can't drive it properly. Let alone have good races with it. It's too fast to be fun

Quote from suomitoisia :but i think bf1 should be swapped to a 2009 spec car completely (but the tc will have to remain as it would be impossible to drive with a keyboard and mouse).

Uhm. The license only included the 06 car. And the TC is not there so that it would be easier to drive, it's there because the real car has it. The 09 car doesn't have TC, so a LFS version of that shouldn't have one either.

I don't know if that makes a difference. I installed the 8800GT drivers first because I didn't know that the onboard GPU needed to be primary to make it show up in Windows and I naturally set the PCI-E card as primary at first in BIOS.

So I am not sure if it causes problems if you try to install them both at once. I would guess modern hardware/software could handle that, but you could install them one by one just to be on the safe side.

Quote from Jakg :Oooooo - How did you set that up? Any disadvantages?

Nothing special really.
Only thing that took me a while to figure out was that the onboard GPU needed to be primary in the BIOS, otherwise it wouldn't show up in Windows. That just means the stuff on post shows up on the monitor connected to it, starting from the Windows login screen everything is on the primary monitor set in Windows.

After that it was just installing the both nvidia and ati drivers and setting up multiple monitors using the Windows' built-in monitor configuration.

Setting up SoftTH worked the same as it did when I had 8800GT and 6200LE cards. So no problems there.

I haven't noticed any disadvantages really. Only small bug is with the nvidia and ati control panels, the other manufacturers card/monitors don't show up on the others control panels properly. But that doesn't really effect the use at all.

Quote from GianniC :No matter what your timezone is, you can still choose when you race.

That's true if you are unemployed or not going to school. The peak hours for LFS are when it's evening in Europe. Which means the peak hours in America are in the middle of the day. Most people are at work/school around that time.
Also there is lag to consider, the lag is quite big when playing from across the pond.

GeForce 8800GT and onboard Ati 4200 works fine for me with SoftTH. I see no problem in your setup. Except you need to be running Windows 7 (or XP) to use two different brands of GPU at the same time.

You only told us your GPU, but you probably don't need 500W. And Corsair is considered the best PSU manufacturer currently. So I am suggesting this one for you: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products ... K-Version-3-year-warranty

Another thing to note is that if you are looking at high-end graphics cards (Ati 5870/5850, Nvidia 295GTX, etc). You need to check if those fit in to the case. The cards itself are within the standard length limits of expansion cards, but many cases have HDD cages or other structures in the way, so those cards won't fit.

Quote from Ripley :I have two very different monitors, 22" wide 1680*1050 & 8" touch 800*600, and one single Radeon.
Apart from the obvious disadvantages (dimension-wise) would it be possible to set a 2-screen LFS for me (just to try) ?

I don't see that working in any usefull manner. I guess you could run them both at 800x600 and use horizontal span, but the image wouldn't line up in any way.

Quote from broken :I think I'll add a poll for this, since most of the lfs users just come, take a look and exit without commenting, but if they see a poll they usually vote.

It just means they don't have an opinion. People who don't have opinions still vote on polls though.
Polls are quite useless in improvement suggestions. The end result is almost always 'yes', unless it's something really silly or stupid. The result does not mean anything anyway, the devs don't choose suggestions by poll votes. It's more important to have constructive discussion why this idea is good or bad than to gather tons of people saying 'yes'.
