Who says I am faster then you because of the use of another view ? Can you prove this by %'s and facts ? No you can not.
Other people perhaps race with the custom view, no wheel, just 2cms of the front tyres. They have a 'advantage' also over the 'chase car' view that I'm using, does this mean they are faster then me ? No.
It is all about the feeling you have with the car, the habit perhaps too. Some feel the car better by seeing the 4 tyres, other feel it better like it would be in real life, others feel the car better on a totally other way. This are personal opinions and feelings and it just is not right to force people to race with a view where they have no feeling at all with the car. No matter what excuses you come up with, this is just not done.
Cockpit view may be for some people more realistic, but for me LFS is a fun hobby and a computergame. If I want to race and use another view, I want to be able to do this and not be forced into another view by one or another host.
I jus don't like this. Reason ? Don't care about seeing 2x a wheel, but I use 'chase car' view. Yes, I know... it isn't "realistic" but with all do respect for this great racingsim I do still see this also as a game. I just can not orientate myself in the cockpit view. I have tryed before, but I have no feelin with the car then. By using the 'chase car' view, I can see when the rear tyres slide away, I can correct then and keep on track. I see exactly where my 2 tyres go over the curbs, perhaps I can get some closer. I see exactly what driving line my car follows, in cockpit view I don't. Perhaps it is cause I haven't drove in a real car yet, however I strongly disagree on making this view forced.
Vykos may scream then that it is "an option", but I have no doubt the most leagues will use this forced system, to improve the 'realism'. Public hosts will probably not all use this system, however I think it will be a matter of time before 95% of the hosts will use it.
SamH:
Are you saying I drive less clean then someone who is using a cockpit view ? That I behave less realistic on the track, because I use a different view ? I don't see any difference between the racers / sort of racing which is going on in a server and how a different view has any influence on "the kind of racing that happens on servers". Unles you can enlighten me ?
I see no reason why this option has to be able to set as forced by a host. Everyone sits behind his/her screen as he/she wants to and should be free to use any view he or she likes, and certainly not forced to use a certain view. People who want to "race as realistic as possible" will use automaticly the cockpit view, I see no reason at all why you should make the option availlable to force other people to use a view they do not wish to use.
Edit: And I would véry much appreciate it when certain people would stop calling this "a rant". This is a qualitative comment towards the Devs and pointing out my feeling about this 'improvement'.
If I leave the steer in the middle so I would drive straight, the car ingames steers (a bit) to the left.
If I turn my wheel then to the right more, the car ingame go's driving straight.
Now I closed LFS and on the wheel you can push FF out. I did that. If you push again that button the activate FF, the wheel go's auto standing in center position.. What I noticed is that it seems my center moved during the night from the real center a bit to the right !
Didn't recallibrated it, worked fine when I went to bed, wheel got power first, program was running, mounted wheel first, then opened LFS.
So... euhm, how ? And, how to fix it ?
Cheers,
GC
EDIT:
Now I can't go to the wheels callibrating screen anymome. When I got to configurationscreen-game controllers-and then to the "eigenschappen" (settings I believe it is in english) of my wheel it gives an error.
"There was an internal error due to low system resources. Please close this program and any other and try again. If it keeps failing, reinstal the software".
"Program isn't working anymore - windows host dll32 isn't working, please try again or ..."
Same go's for opening the delivered driver software :/
Using windows vista bussiness
Core duo 4300 @1.80 GHz 1006MB ram
Nvidea GeForce 6600 LE
The "no resources" thingy is absolete crap, I run the most demanding games at high specs like total war ect...
The software starts auto when I start my pc so no problem, wheel is always connected so also has first power (at start up), before I open LFS. 240° or 270° won't matter much indeed. I've still the box and paper printed manual and looked into it, couldn't find any infos about 240° or 270°. Weird..
Thanks again, think the problems are solved... now, practice practice practice...
I was just thinking the same thing when I saw the (updated) photo album.. Be proud Scawen & Geraldine
Must be scary for Leo, knowing all this people are like following online his education and how he grows and evolves
/me wonders if, when he can read and write, will come here and post under his true name and have a laugh with us about this...
@BBO: "the MS controller software has to work before you start LFS"
-> I've to open everytime first the standard settings screen from the MS Sidewinder and then open LFS, or what exactly do you mean with this?
I can conclude that the FF sensitivity settings are about personal feelings.
Another thing I notice is "Button control rate"... I've been gone for some months, and back then it was advised to set it at 6.00. Any reason why some have it still at 6.00 and other (standard) at 4.00 ?
I've asked a few times some help from you this great community, I'm "afraid" I've to do it again. Myself and some friends are developing a new browser based strategy game. I don't have to tell you it will rock completely since it will contain massive online playing, rts elements and many other fantastic feautures!
Now, we had someone who was going to do the GFX for our buildings, ect... Problem is, the dude decided to go 1 year to America and tour the country. Great for him but well, we have no GFXs for our buildings!
1st of July will be our first béta release in a small group of friends/experienced players we know during our gaming career. So we are now urgently looking for people who can work with graphic programmes and quick help us out with some GFXs for buildings.
There is limited time and we understand it won't be superb work, but if you are willing to continue helping us with GFXs for our game ànd the GFXs are of a great quality, we can offer even a small payment in exchange for your work.
I have placed the topic here to reach the needed people for this, doubt I can find so many with GFX creating qualities in the Off Topic part, however I fully understand if the mods would move this thread. If more information is needed you may always pm me or we can exchange e-mail adresses.
Thank you very much for your attention and help,
Regards,
GC
I was wondering, could anyone post here a screenshot or information concerning what settings you use for your MS Sidewinder FF in LFS-Options-Controls ?
Do you change them depending from the car you race ?
Do you use DXTweak to modify the callibration ? If so, what settings ?
I've some problems, perhaps I'm totally not used in racing what a wheel (that's a plain fact) since I didn't raced for 6-7 months and before I used KB, but it is my feeling that the steering is way to sensitive. I barely have to steer in real life, while ingame the steering is already at maximum left/right. I don't want to steer completely in real life my wheel in order to steer completely ingame, but I do think it may be some less sensitiver then now.
