Another alternative brake mode (if you have a soldering iron handy) is to wire a POT of similar value to the brake POT in parallel and walla you have a knob to adjust max brake pressure. Cheap maybe even free if u have electronic parts laying about and simple solution.

I've done this and generally have it set so that it knocks off the last 5% of brake pressure. That way it will still will lock the wheels (if you don't trail brake or are too aggressive) but will be easier to modulate.

As a quick an dirty temporary solution I've also (G25) just stuck a section of 19mm retic riser under the brake pedal (calibrate it first without it in) this does pretty much the same but doesn't last too long lol

Quote from Scawen :Scawen has written a little more about tyre design and simulation in case you would like to get a bit more technical.

Thanks for the update and articale on tyre physics, interesting read and does give insight into what the future may provide

A very Merry Christmas to all in LFS land :eclipseeh

Be a full on sprint now though, I'm sure more action to follow

Will Vodafone do 1 - 2 outstanding job to get two cars front of field at end of enduro... and will Lowndes fall out of the car Lowndes 'go reserve'

Good race Bernard Lowndes battle higlight for me.

L= latency (ping )
Q= quality (probably % of packets recieved)
S= skew (time syncronization between server and you)

Connection issues more often than not are caused by your ISP or your ISP's backbone provider (if you haven't done anything different and had a solid connection in the past) and is worth alerting them, depending on the quality of service your ISP gives you their response will range from 'there's nothing wrong our end it must be you!' to 'we will investigate the issue and get back to you'

This is even true in relation to specific services I've had issues with connectivity to LFS in the past while all else was good and it turned out to be an ISP problem with a router.

If you only have bad net stats at the start of a race though I'd also first look to PC performance with a full grid of cars as a possibility.

How long has it been happening? As iRacings ISP has recently upgraded a lot of their equipment and that could possibly cause ongoing issuses for some...

Solstice and Mustang handle in similar ways imo as do the SRF and V8SC.

Give it another two or three hundred horsepower and it would be alright nah I think you want be disapointed m8

Mustang is one of the most popular at the moment, so as much as I don't want to that would be the one I'd recomend out of the ones you mention, seconded by the Mazda, the Jetta isn't as popular as it used to be...

I love the V8SC but I guess it's an aquired taste think LX6 on steriods

Also love the SCCA Spec Racer Ford, think RAC for handling but feels more right at limit

The Mustang, comparable to the XRR in feel but doesn't feel right to me mid corner but maybe I just haven't given it enough attention, you'll get a lot more online activity with it than with the V8SC though...

Star Mazda feels good but have only done a few laps in it, I hear that the lotus79 is good too. The trick is finding a car you like that is also popular with the masses, sound familiar to LFS yet lol

Fortunately for me being an aussie the V8SC is supported in my time zone better than most others

I didn't much like the Jetta...

As for wheel settings, you should pretty much have the same logitec profiler settings as you would in LFS:

Overall Strength - 103%
all others activated but set to 0% (centering, etc)
I used to drive in LFS with 340deg wheel rotation in iRacing I find 540deg gives about the same feel, so I'd say as a rule of thumb try 1.3-1.6x your LFS setting for wheel rotation.

In iRacing I set the FFB between 8 and 12 depending on car.

One of the biggest differences between iRacing and LFS is that there is no adjustment for max brake pressure and to be honest I can see that this could have a negative impact on how LFSer's appreciate iRacing as wheel lock ups are extremly easy in comparison and severly affect driving performance and car handling (as you would expect) if you already have a brake pedal mod (such as a load cell or the nixim mod) you will find it a lot easier to transition than if you have the original g25 pedals as out of the box.

Quote from Silverracer :Eugh.

Tastes great, but oh the stench makes my eyes water! Try getting rid of the smell after carrying half a dozen in your car.

lol first trip to asia we hired a car stoped off at a durian plantation tried some and stored the remaining half in the glove box, returned to the hotel and by that time forgot that it was there. Next day we went to go for another drive (keep in mind the tropical climate) and when we opened the car door, well! even with all the windows wound down the stench was something to behold

Well to be fair TVE's thread was on "How much money have you used on LFS? And no, we are not counting wheels, computers, desks and such, but only LFS. That means, how much have you used on skins, lisences and such?" and it wasn't an obvious search due to TVE's English as a second language

Checking if the misfire is isolated to one cylinder will narrow down the problem quickly, so the pull leads off an see if engine runs the same or worse test is good for seeing that, as mentioned above.

An easy way to check ignition leads is to pop the hood with the engine running at night, leaking high tension voltages will be pretty obvious in the dark

Many times they break down where they are near or rubbing on other metal objects, if that is causing the misfire you can temporily rectify it with either electrical tape or holding it away from the object it is shorting too. Other reasons can be just built up grease and road grim which creates a path for a short.

@mrodgers my dad was an evil character and used to hold onto a plug lead with the engine running and say come have a look at this! When I approached eager to learn about mechanics he would reach out and touch me and KAZAP! That's where I learnt about high voltages

A vaccum hose that has been dislodged (or is just old and often the vacum hoses split where they connect) can cause one cylinder to misfire if it is near the inlet of that cylinder which I have see before. I've even seen a car running like a dog and all it was, was the nuts securing the inlet manifold had come loose, on realising that I bought the car on the spot ($175) drove it around the corner tightened up the manifld bolts and it ran like a swiss watch for another two years without me spending a dim on it .

Thats the cheap ones

If you have bubbles in your water, execive exaust gas pressure coming out of the oil filler cap (check you oil if water has mixed with it you will see white slurry after running the engine) or moisture and water spitting out of the exhaust it is likely to be a head gasket or hole/corrosion in the head.

A burnt or pitted valve can cause an engine to run rough also which can be caused by a cylinder that is running too lean (such as a vacum hose dislodged/disconnected)

Update the physics, improve the environment detail and add more environments then I think you will find that there will be no problem finding racers in LFS.

Physics is one of the areas that is vital to LFS's future, we also know they do have one laser scanned track (improved environement) we don't know if they plan to add further environments but I'd be suprised if they don't have a few things up their sleave...

Quote from scipy :[snip] Guess if that makes it unwelcome I'll try to filter my words better. However, just like you I am susceptible to what other people do and say, and a part of the reason for sarcasm was that genuinelly - the last attempt at fixing/adjusting the tire physics was a bit of a failure and went directly against what you usually stand for (and what I respect) and that is "We will not release unfinished/half-done/band-aid updates just for the sake of being on time".

Living in a foreign country for several years that did not get sarcasm at all (in english) helped me to learn to filter and water down my natural sarcasm Often in life less is more.

I think with the length of time and delays that we can safely assume that Scawen is not hurrying to release an update prematurely...

@ Scawen It's very interesting to hear more detail about the tyre model and specifically the 'tyre test rig' you coded some time ago and are improving on. I picked up on it when you first mentioned it (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=52909#post52909) but had no idea how detailed it was then and what you are doing with it now. Sounds intriguing I hope your getting some satisfaction and enjoyment out of the process, I look forward to seeing the results when they a ready

Quote from Hallen :Contrary to BBT, I see understeer being more of a problem in iRacing than LFS.

I do also find the most prodominant characteristic I am always battling with in iRacing is understeer and normally fighting it on two fronts, dialing it out as much as possible with set up tweaks and adjusting driving style.

Keep in mind though that the average set you grab in LFS has already been adjusted a lot to dial out or enhance certain characteristics.

I do find this also to be true in sets I get for iRacing but perhaps not to the same extent. And I do note in iRacing that a lot of drivers carry part throttle to reduce the understeer effect and thereofore probably inadvertently create sets with understeer mid corner (were I notice it most) to suit their driving style that they have picked up earlier I don't mind a little understeer mid corner so you can get on the throttle early but many sets seem to have extreme understeer mid corner to me (most notable in the Ford Mustang sets I've downloaded).

INTERVIEWER: "Kimi, have you ever got angry about anything, and jumped up and down and shouted?"
KIMI: "Yeah, many times but of course you’re not happy if you retire or something but I guess it mostly happens more in normal life than in racing."
INTERVIEWER: "Can you give us examples?"
KIMI: "No, not really."
INTERVIEWER: "What are the kind of things that make you angry in normal life, as you say?"
KIMI: "If you keep asking questions like those."

Well if you like his quotes here are some more: -

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older." ~ Mario Andretti

"Circumstances may cause interruptions and delays, but never lose sight of your goal. Prepare yourself in every way you can by increasing your knowledge and adding to your experience, so that you can make the most of opportunity when it occurs" ~ Mario Andretti

"Do it no matter what. If you believe in it, it is something very honorable. If somebody around you or your family does not understand it, then that's their problem. But if you do have a passion, an honest passion, just do it." ~ Mario Andretti

"Everything comes to those who wait... except a cat." ~ Mario Andretti

He must have got into motivational speaking later in life I wonder if he made more money from that than motor racing?
