I'm not suprised the way it was bouncing in a pact choatic pit lane it would have been a miricale if it didn't hit someone...

Quite telling I think that the Red Bulls loose alot of their advatage when following another car - the front wing must be giving them alot more advantage in clean air than what they are willing to admit

Old footage but gives you a good idea of the second side of competition in F1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U66aUZMNHYM and how they 'interpret the rules'.

Was also interested to hear that Adrian describes tyres as the least understood compenent and that the data they are supplied in the form of a tyre model from the supplier is pretty 'simple'.

Forgeting all the tyre physics the main reason for the locked diff to be faster than the others is becuase it has the most stable and predictable behaviour in transients thus giving the driver greater confidence and thus a more likely quicker lap time...

To get good performance out of the LSD in say the XXR requires much more setup skills (to tune to individual driver and track conditions) to get the same driver confidence levels and therefore likely good lap times. My experience with the XRR is that given the abiltiy to tune the LSD diff well for the driver and track in question it will be just as quick or quicker than a locked diff. Reality is though that it is far easier just to slap in a locked diff

http://www.newscientist.com/ar ... illness-strengthened.html

I think the risk of mental illness would cause me to pause. I've never used any drugs other than the moderate drinking of alcohol, the occasional panadol for a headache and coffee of which I also consider the over use of as dangerous so you will probably dismiss me

I've known quite a few people (family and friends) my age and a bit older that have definitely struggled with or are still struggling with mental illness due to regular cannabis use when they were younger.

I wouldn't be opposed to it being used for medicinal purposes under the direction of a doctor/psychologist but don't think it should be legalised for general consumption, but then again the deterioration of health I see in tobacco smokers also causes me to wonder why that is still legal as well.

I don't think any differently of people that smoke dope as I do of people that smoke tobacco so my opinion is not based on paranoia but rather observation.

Quote from Storm_Cloud :One car width plus one inch - that's all you should expect. If you don't think it's enough room then back off. Lesson learned for Seb and a statement that Webber had to make. If he had just given the corner to Vettel that would have been a psychological blow he maybe could not recover from. This is Webber's one chance to win the WDC and everyone knows he's ready to mix it if he has to.

Perfectly described from Webber's point of view imo the thing you don't mention is that Vettel probably made his disicion to be agressive for similar reasons and therefore it was an inceident that we all subconsciously knew was going to happen and indeed happened Anything less and I would loose interest in F1 again the battle of wills is what attracts me to motor racing if everyone is getting along just fine something is wrong

Quote from Bandit77 :it is so freaking overpriced it hurts

I'm sure you said that for dramatic effect. I have always thought and still think LFS is remarkable value for money.

You must not have got into any other serious sims to have that view, I've spent hundreds on scenery packs for flight sims and think iRacing is reasonable value for money for what I get out of it, so in comparison LFS price of admission is trivial I know every one is not equal in regards to their financial situation but even with that in consideration LFS is a very cheap means of getting that racing feeling.

Quote from Gimpster :Even iRacing with its budget and dev team do not do this yet.

Since I've been with iRacing (a mere 3 months) many cars and tracks have been tweaked enough that I've heard people disucssing the differences on several occasions so it is happening as a consequence of ongoing development. It used to happen more frequently in the early days of LFS also.

I agree it would make it a lot more life like and interesting if there were regular "tweaks" to cars and tracks. In real life it is rare for a serries to be the same car and track wise from one year to the next, that in combination with dynamic track conditions is something I am always hoping will become a reality!

So big +1 from me

Quote from JJ72 :LFS shouldn't aim to compete with Iracing, it really should re-discover what made it great in the first place...

Agree 100%

I think Scawen is doing the right thing to take his time to get his head around the physics as this will probably be the last time he does a major overhaul on tyre physics. Ultimately if he can get that right the rest will fall into place imo

One of the key differences between LFS and iRacing that I find currently is that in LFS I'd get up to a certain performance level then really struggle to see how it's possible to go faster, in iRacing I still have to work hard at going faster but I always feel I can get more out of it. Hard to describe what I mean there but I believe it comes down to the tyre physics and track dynamics it's just more convincing in iRacing at the moment.

I don't see why LFS has to compete with iRacing either as I'll certainly give S3 a go when it comes out and if I like it will run that along with iRacing - the two can happily coincide

Quote from 5haz :iRacing is frustrating, I'd love to try it but I'm not renting the bloody thing, especially seeing as it appears to be a bit rough around the edges still.

My initial impressions of iRacing were that it was still a bit rough around the edges as well, although after using it for a while, getting used to it and seeing a few updates I have gone ahead and subscribed for two years as well as purchased a bit of content. I intend to purchase more content as my lic progresses.

Their current tyre physics model is already very good and they are also working on releasing new tyre physics at some point soon, some have criticised the tyre physics but I find it quite predictable and forgiving when driving good lines. I can easily hang a tyre off the track on exit without losing it for example, new drivers to iRacing seem to have some trouble keeping a car straight but I feel that it is mostly because they don't know/drive a good line and tend to be too jerky with inputs unbalancing the car.

Good hardware is a requirement I think for controllability in iRacing you can't get away with a low steering lock as easily, for example - I use a 540deg in iRacing where in LFS I could easily use 340deg. Also it pays to experiment with brake pedal setup a bit because you certainly don't want to be continually locking tyres on corner entry, iRacing doesn't have a max brake pressure setting but it does have a brake force curve which I find I need to experiment with for each car to get best driving feel. I'd also think setting up a load cell for the brake pedal would benefit you far more in iRacing than LFS. The squash ball mod would likely work well with iRacing also.

iRacing is a subscription based model and is a lot more expensive than LFS. The idea of subscription put me off a bit as well at first but my rationalisation is that you don't own LFS either it is a license paid every now an then for content. In LFS if your serious and do leagues or are involved in a team someone is paying for servers which has a cost and someone is maintaining stats for the league etc all which costs someone time or money. iRacing has a subscription based model plus pay for content - with that you get a massive league system with servers provided, additionally you can buy content as you go so there is always something new to drive.

Bottom line is yes it is more expensive but it is not expensive for a serious hobby, on a two year subscription it costs me $7.50 per month for the 'league system' and so far I've spent $180 on content. I'd have to spend more to race RC electric cars so to me that is good value! The other bonus is you only get serious racers that are willing to pay.

I have loved LFS to bits for six years and it will always have a place for me. I will still likely buy new content for LFS in the future but for the time being at least I'm thoroughly enjoying iRacing. I do hope that LFS does become all that it was intended to be as it still has unique and outstanding features. It's good to hear from Scawen even if it's not what we really want to hear.

Ultimately I'm a fanboy of both sims

Yeah imagine the passing opportunities that could have been had from 320km/h + speeds drafting and then in the braking zone The chase isn't a bad compromise though, has certainly created some action of its own over the years

Quote from StableX :nice 2nd place at Lime ROck!!!

I'm guessing you mean the 11th to 2nd ford spec racer race, it was indeed a fun race for me what capped it off nicely was to be personally thanked and congratulated by Jason for driving sanely in the first ten laps and then going on to get a good finish, that is one of those races worth remembering thanks for reminding me

sorry for O/T
