I think there's an addon that already does that (I think it's called "pitspotter" as it happens - search the Addons sub-forum).

Of course, it's only really useful at the oval ... which demo users don't have access to

BTW, in my experience, the only thing that reduces crashes in LFS is people paying attention to what the hell they're doing, and the only thing that reduces crashers is a good old fashioned 999-day ban

Quote from BullHorn :That's kind of dumb...

Yet you responded anyway

I figured I'd see the usual suspects like Jaco (the silver surfer of bass playing), Myung (loads of fingers, not enough taste ), Prestia (nasty funk god, love those ghost notes), Wooten (alien!), Miller (lord). Nice to see some others though Kev, Zender and Fisher are frequently & unfairly underrated

To my list, I'd add Les Claypool from Primus. Old school now, but in the early-mid 90s a real pioneer and re-definer of funk playing. A little-known (outside of bassist circles) player called John Patitucci also comes to mind. Hearing that guy rock Bach is pretty mindblowing! One of the most ridiculously awesome but ninja-secret bass players I can think of is Trevor Dunn from Mr Bungle. Standup, electric, fretless or fretted, the dude just kills. Check his lines in "None of them knew they were robots" from California, his solo on "Platypus" from the album Disco Volante, or just the uber-bassline from "Dead Goon" from the self-titled Bungle album. Classic, tasty, clever stuff. Bungle's long dead now, but Trevor still makes a living with Secret Chiefs 3 as well as propping up several dozen Euro jazz bands

Dammit, now I want a choc fix. I feel like getting a 2L bottle of milk and stocking up on Fruchocs, Maltesers, Smarties and those awesome little peppermint truffle bars from the shop near my old house :yummy:

Longest for me is maybe 50-60 hours under certain, um, "influences". Longest unassisted is probably no longer than 30 I like my sleep and there's no way in hell I'll stay awake longer than a day unless I'm artificially stimulated. Sure as buggery wouldn't stay awake for three days for work! Screw 'em

But come on scooby, 2 and a half weeks without a single minute of sleep? Gotta call BS on that. Unless, of course, it was drug-assisted - ice addicts have been known to stay awake for over 10 days at a time. But then, if you were an ice addict you would've sold your PC to feed your habit ages ago.

As with spankmeyer, I can only presume that comment's based on your years of experience in the relevant fields

The "DCA Update" pdf at this site states that they're on their way to raising enough money for a clinical trial, which is what you do when you're testing the efficacy of a new treatment. I don't see the point in calling "bs" before trials have even started

Quote from spankmeyer :I call BS.

Why, because of your years of experience in cellular biology, pharmacology and oncology?

I'm going to keep an eye on this and see what happens. Could be interesting, not only from a medical or scientific point of view. Imagine if DCA showed enough promise to worry pharmaceutical companies enough so that they pressured some governments to avoid funding studies into it - those governments would have a golden opportunity to prove their ethical credentials by doing the right thing and not caving to corporate interests. For once.

However, even if DCA isn't the magic bullet, it seems to have shed some new light on the role of mitochondria in cancer formation, which sounds like a good solid foot in the door to enable other avenues of research which might bear fruit. My best friend's mum died of a non-Hodgkins lymphoma, my cousin and my wife's best mate are both undergoing chemo right now and my aunt survived breast cancer, so anything that can knock this thing down a peg or two is a good thing as far as I'm concerned

A ridiculous 90s-style (ie pre-safety, pre-TC) ubercar would be the business. F40, McLaren F1, XJ220, Bugatti EB110 (whatever else they had in NFS in 1995 ). Stupid horsepower, proper MR layout, big fat wedge-shaped arse

I'd like to see an OTT performance car in LFS, and some clever chap has already modelled a McLaren F1

My dad's birthday is on Xmas Eve actually, as is my brother's wife's and that of one of my cousins. They probably do feel a bit cheated sometimes - many a time have I heard the "well, this is a big one so it's for your birthday and Xmas" Mine's in July, luckily - bang in the middle.

Mithraism was a religion practiced by Romans in the middle east after contact with Persian adherents. It's contended that Paul of Tarsus (Saul) was a Mithraist until discovering Christianity. Mithra was thought of the earthly representative of Ahura-Mazda, the Zoroastrian deity, and was known as "the light of the world". Mithra's birthday was celebrated on December 25 and he apparently taught on earth for 36 years until ascending to heaven in 208 BC.

Merry Mithramas everyone

Humbug! All this Xmas advertising & Santa posters & Jesus-y stuff and noone ever mentions Mithra. It's his birthday too, y'know.

I'm glad my work closes down between Chrisbo and NYE. That way I only need to take four or five days leave on top of that to make it an even two weeks or so. I need it to do the 2000km roundtrip to see my folks, my inlaws and head to our friends' beach house for a few days' solid drinking. And all without a single sodding carol or hymn or sermon. Bliss.

Demon-worship is all good (so why only do it once a year?) but begging strangers for candy's not real popular in Oz, even with fat kids (I guess it's too much effort to pester the neighbours when you know your mum just bought a new bag of Choc-coated pork crackling). Hallowe'en's never been a big deal down here but in the last decade or so the whole trick-or-treat thing's been gaining popularity thanks to good ol' TV. It isn't so bad though. It's actually quite enjoyable watching little Harry Potters gape in terror after I answer the door in my gimp outfit and stand there staring at them in silence. They usually drop their candy and bolt. Score one for me.

Like a lot of the trippers above, I find music is great therapy so I'd agree with learning an instrument - especially one you can bounce around with, unlike a harpsichord. I love listening to music to chill, with something like the Miles Davis album Kind Of Blue + some decent red wine (but not too much). Fortunately, twice a week I get to scream everything out through a microphone at rehearsals or shows. Since I'm the only one who writes lyrics for my band I can say pretty much whatever I want as loud as I want, which can turn jams into group therapy I'm a crap guitarist but sometimes I like to crank the Strat up anyway and blast out some Faith No More or Radiohead and wail like my neighbours can't hear me If you do learn to play something, I totally recommend finding or forming a band. Won't matter if you suck because everyone does at first, just hanging out with like-minded buds and making some fearsome goddam racket is the best damn fun imaginable

When rocking out isn't possible I like to ride my mountainbike or bmx and really push it. Music or exercise (hell, even housework) seems to work for me - getting a good sweat up and having to focus on what you're doing rather than what you're thinking is a great head-clearer. All the best

No race car I can think of has an odometer for the above reason ^
You might still want them in the road cars, but (IIRC) on LFS World you can see exactly how far you've driven each car anyway.

An in-game music player's another thing I don't see a real need for. I don't see what's so bad about using your normal media player or, goodness forbid, your actual stereo while you drive I'm not sure the time required to encode a player into LFS would be justified by the amount of use it would get. When it comes to the devs' workload, physics/collisions/sound - important car stuff - should come first every time
