Well, someone didn't do their homework: Consoles are so "weak" because they use special chipsets, only suited for the use in a console. Why else did you have to have quite a machine to get a PS2 emulator running? Reduced Instruction Set Computing is in fact quite a bliss, you wouldn't want to need a 2 GHz CPU for your car... at least I hope

Well, the metric system is way better than the imperial one, it has a much better usability for converting units. Only gets beaten by the SI-system
Exactly what I imagined. You see the Unicode (UTF-8) problems in the IRC-networks, if one has enabled encoding and another has disabled unicode, everything gets messed up (unicode is completely 2-byte characters iirc).
But it would be the simpler way for global usability, because most eastern languages (Chinese, Japanese,..) require 2-byte characters anyway. I still got my hopes up

I would like to see more rim choice maybe 2-4 per car (as most real-life racing series use different rim manufacturers too), just like with the tyre brands. What I would like more than different sizes of tyres is still different compounds . Not the ones like R1, R2, ... but different R1-compounds, different R2-compounds, ..., which iirc Scawen already said would come sooner or later.
Some preset tyre choices could be interesting too (low profile wide tyre vs. higher profile narrower tyre), because we already learned, that wider doesn't neccessarily mean better.
