Interesting theory. Just think about it for a second, where would you go racing if there wouldn't be public servers? Set up a private server of your own and try and get some of your friends to race with you? That would be fine for everyone IF they had friends interested in racing sims.
Having public servers is the key point to LFS (and the demo) because it gives you the possibility to find and race people on the same skill level (or at least the same speed) as you. If there would be no public servers then you'd be pretty much racing against your friends until you beat them race after race and they quit - you ending up having nobody to race against.
Unfortunately there will be those who don't either know how to race properly or they just don't feel like it. Those aren't just kids, being able to wreck races anonymously is something that even older people enjoy when they feel like letting off some steam. It's like this with every game (and especially the demos), just like you said. This is something I wish everyone would realize, aswell as the following:
Buying a LFS license gives you an identity, albeit a string of characters. You can always be recognized, and you can lose your reputation. If a wrecker does buy a license and keeps wrecking races he'll soon be banned from the servers / kept an eye on. And there's no way around this other than registering again and buying a new license.
Karts are something I'd love to see in LFS, I quit racing ~8 years ago and have missed them ever since. The only thing is that can we actually drive a kart in LFS without that seat of the pants feel? Driving and adjusting it just with a clock and the steering wheel movement would be pretty hard
Karts being relatively cheap brings an interesting factor into putting them in LFS, since they are easily accessible. One can test a kart, take measurements etc and use that data to develop a kart in LFS. Not something that can be done with the cars we have in LFS at the moment.
Once the chassis and tyre physics would be worked out, there'd be no limits to what classes you could put into LFS! 60cc, 100cc, 125cc, 250cc, with or without gears. And centrifugal clutches for the noob classes
No need to press enter before you want to change the fuel load for example. It should work with left/right keys. Make sure you don't have any other functions mapped to the keys for some reason (keyboard steering etc).
My race was good, a bit boring but the result was much better than what I was waiting for. Spun on lap 36 and had a flat after T1 on lap 72 or so. My R2/R2 tyres were very worn in the end of the race, so I slowed down a bit on the last lap to make the lap I was running the last one. I could've gone to pits though, had a reasonable gap
I've never hosted races with the mod, but I'd assume if you use LFS in no graphics mode to host it'd work - just use the mod like you would with singleplayer. If you use the standalone dedi software to host I guess it doesn't work, not sure though.
OOS = Out Of Sync = Your LFS differs from the server -> you get kicked
The mod works online if you use the tyres that are normally available, whenever you try to change them to something that are unlocked by the mod then a normal server kicks you out. The server has to have the mod running aswell.
A no restart option would be very good. Maybe have it so that restart would be allowed when the winner has finished or something. Although, if everyone would retire especially if shift+s and reset would be disabled, there'd be a problem
Anyways, a good idea that could calm down the T1 heros.
Well, I've seen LHD Minis, and I believe most of the cars in the UK are RHD whatever their country of origin is What I would prefer would be a fixed driving side, something you couldn't change for each race. Maybe have it set in your LFS account details and it could be changed once a month or something..
Just to compare laptimes / performance / whatever between LFS and real life the Nordschleife wouldn't be the best choice I think, since the track is so complex and long. I know there's data of RA on at least one Finnish racetrack that isn't very complex - having that track in LFS would be better for comparisons sake (S/E/V wouldn't need to spend half a year practicing the track haha)..
Some of the most popular tracks can be very expensive to have in LFS, but I would think that smaller, club level circuits would be a lot cheaper if not free.
Replicating a track would be hard though, if you really would need if for LFS & real life comparison, since it's not just the shape & elevations but the tarmac properties, small bumps, curb shapes etc. Then you'd need to fine tune these by comparing laptimes and other data, but you wouldn't know which one is more off, the car or the track
Don't get me wrong, I sure would like some real tracks in LFS, I just can't see it happening.

This is also a somewhat quiet build, but in need of upgrading :irked:
If you plan to take more than one screenshot at a time, it's easier to use an external program to save the screenshots, so you don't have to alt+tab or shift+f4 out of LFS every time you take a shot
I use Fraps, but surely there are other programs aswell.
