Not like there is any use of this lock in those cars. Can't see use of such big lock in fwd cars in real life as well. So I agree with you on this one.

Quote from March Hare :Maybe if you are bored with 36 degree drifting you could try 36 degree racing.

Just a thouhgt

I had my racing time, I had my drifting time. I'm just trying to keep on having interesting stuff in sim, especially when playing it for over 4,5 years already. And my real life motorsport interest is aimed towards drifting. 1 is because it's very fun and exciting(ever tried drifting yourself in rwd car with power, diff and on a race track? Or had a co-drive in proffesional drift car with very good driver? Ever followed in a drift car another car? Yourself or in a co-drive? Believe me it's very fun, not any less than racing). 2 is because drifting is one of the cheapest motorsports. I don't have lots of money to compete in racing series or in rally series. And I like the fact that I can do my passion in LFS any time I want, especially when the tires are free and parts don't wear out. But I hate when there are people that for some unknown reason are giving their best so I can't realise this passion in LFS.

Quote from March Hare :As the XRT seems to be the car of choice for the drifters maybe the lock should be increased. But only for XRT. I don't see the harm in that.

Mostly XRT and FZ5. Some people also use RAC and LX6.

Now what harm would do 45 lock in all street cars except maybe Rb4. More than that. More people race GTT than FZ5, rac and LX6/4, but that's another story.

EVEN ON TOP OF THAT, the classes that are popular on racing servers are S-S and GTR. Biggest group that uses TBO class(even when just GTT from it) and LRF(even when mostly just FZ5) are drifters. And please people don't tell me ("I've race TBO yesterday, there's CTRA server etc."), because simply checking server list in game and filtering classes says enough. Not saying that people shouldn't race for example TBO, I'm actually suprised so few do, because it's one of the most fun racing that can be had in lfs.

Quote from March Hare :
Wasn't the lock decreased in the past?

If you did read my post, which is few posts over yours then you know that it was decreased from 45 to 36, so yes.

Sometimes I get a feeling that most of the people that join the discussion don't even bother reading other people posts, but start writing straight away. There's nothing more annoying than trying to have a serious discussion in such group of people.

Or option for 45 degrees lock just on drift servers. But honestly I can't see use of 45 degrees lock in racing, in saving spins etc. Actually as you know, when you save a spin and use maximum counter-lock it doesn't give proper results, more likely lots of time loss or in worst scenario a flick to the other side.

Do you really believe it would help in racing? I can only imagine one situation - when the race track is a parking lot and the goal is to park in as many places as possible in a given time. Maybe it would be useful on rally cross too with rwd cars like lx6. But hey, in sliding/drift situations mostly.

Even in the old days when there was 45 degrees lock all the setups from best racers had much less lock. 45 was mostly used in drift sets along with other options that help drift, but let's say give ugly understeer in racing.

1. Show me you doing 100 meters manjis 90 degree angle drift easily and lots of drifts like this in corners. Also doing massive angle drifts with very sharp transitions. On top of that with G25 or Dfp with 720 lock or more. Also if you know a person that can do all of this without a problem let me know. Will sure be happy to take a few tips form such guy.

( Not too mention that people call 90 degree anything that is done with full lock and most of the time isn't even close to 90 degrees. )

2. Do you have your own experience or opinion of very experienced drifter to judge physics the way you do at the moment?

Oh boy..

Truth is, the ones(for example Riders Motion) who usually say that "really good" drifters don't need more steering lock are just not good enough to see the advantages of 45 or more. And on top of that probably don't really use G25 or DFP at realistic steering range.

Am I fine with 36? Yes, do I want more steering lock? Yes, because it opens more possibilites.

Will this feature do any harm to racers? No it won't. Will it do any harm to selfish people? I hope so.

Do I understand why many people in this thread are saying NO to 45 and saying how shit drifting is? No, I honestly don't. Is it because many of you are bored and want to join a group of people that can "load out" on others? I have no idea.

You can ask, why do I bother answering then? Well I have hope that Scawen actually might see that there is nothing wrong with 45 degrees in LFS. I also hope that he realises how close to real life LFS drifting is.

Dot Whoops. Really 11 pages fight over 9 more degrees in steering lock?

Ammmmmm.

Driving f3000 in heavy rain race with full grid was fun. Damm AI is slow then, spins and crashes a lot too. Fun demo, but I don't really feel like playing it again.

Then you certainly can't defend blue-flagged drivers that do not fight for any place in front. And those are the drivers I've meant in my previous post. Ofcourse things get more complicated when there are blue-flagged drivers that have a race in front. I should have been more specific.

Cheers

Quote from DieKolkrabe :Why do drivers who are being blue-flagged fight? Because they are running their own races... It's a simple fact.

I think it's the other way. If blue-flagged driver is so slow that he is lapped, he will maybe try to prove himself to the driver that is lapping him? "Oh I'm slower by 1 lap, but I'm much faster, oh oh go away!" :ices_rofl

It is stupid to shout "get out of my way", but blue flag drivers should have some common sense too.

Fact is, if a driver is lapped, then he is going MUCH slower than the guy behind - doesn't matter if he joined mid-race. Moreover, when drivers have to pit in race things become even worse. Example scenario(based on real "story"): I am fighting for 1st place, the other driver pitted already.. I'm trying to get some time so I can exit pits later in 1st place, but I am stuck behind blue flag driver that is going ultimately slow. The track is fe club and we are after T1 - the chicane - he is super slow yet I'm so close that I have to slow down to not crash him.. I try to pass on the outside on uphill leading to next corner, but i get blocked to right and pushed to the grass.

That is the main problem, when blue flag drivers block and fight as if they had a chance to overtake the driver that is lapping them. I can live with those who not let pass clearly, but those who literally block even if their driving is very slow? Ehh.. Well anyway, the scenario I wrote - I finished the race 2nd, because I lost a lot of time behind that blue flagged driver.

What I do when I get blue flagged? I check my mirror and map to see how close the driver behind is, when he gets close I leave him space to pass in first safe place on the track. Why? Because I know I'm much slower when I'm being blue flagged, and that by blocking that driver, I can only ruin his race and make him enjoy live for speed less.

Tweaker: Ofcourse it was clear that it wasn't intentional drifting. But he did more sliding than over 20 cars together in a race, and I doubt tires were hot - 3 laps race + 1 pit stop after 1st lap?

And ofcourse video was stupid and funny. The contrast beetwen driving and the posts showed later was HUGE. I'm sure Ian has a lot of talent and could easily grab a win in UK EDC or japanese D1GP in the powerfull Cossie he drove.

I'm also really glad that Ian didn't took the video in agressive way.

edit:
Quote from Shotglass :oh for crying out loud ian took it as what it is ... humorous and if anybody hes the one to judge if its insulting or not

Good point.

Quote from Rooble :Ok if it was a joke, why does PSDF on the first page want Ian to apologize for what he has said? The way it looks to me is you're trying to humiliate him (and fail because he doesn't care) and then turn it round into a 'its only a joke' thread.

Read my previous posts.

Quote from Rooble :Movie was fun, but was it really a joke or did they really try and offend, hmm I'm not sure but Oh well.

It was made as a joke(music, pink glow etc.). But it's point was to also show what Ian words mean when he is driving.

p.s.: Ian, I know you were tapped at T1, but drifting is such a turd and easy stuff that you should easily catch that little slide Most footage was also shoot after the pit stop. For future reference, if you don't feel confident about your skill - don't join a public race with so many cars. It's just not safe. Anyway, I'm glad that most of you had fun watching a video. Was a good laugh to me as well.

Just to clear things up. I'm not the one driving in the video(You can see me for a second in black saiko d car). Some people might not understand the idea of this video, since oryginal one was removed from here.

But you are right, the guy in the vid shouldn't be drifting on the race server! He almost took out me and my mate Toni @ T1 spin.

Seeing how much love Ian has for drifters at lfsforum, I have decided to return that love, and make a video for him. With the help of two Ian fans - Toni and psdf, we managed to get movie done in no time.

Well, the thread surely would have received more attention if it was "Get DFP for free". That's my point. And even if someone doesn't yet have skill to make videos - that's no excuse. There was a lot of time given to make the vid, during that time anyone could learn to make a decent movie or even very good if the person tried hard.

Hovewer, I hope there are people working right now(as you say) on the videos to win this DFP. I will be quite dissapointed if it turns out we are wrong though.
