i note how you didnt touch on the physics aspect, which is the very core of the sim. I'm sorry but GT4 just sucks. Every car ndersteers like it's front wheel drive, and the only cars that handle neutrally are the ones that would oversteer heavily IRL. as an example take the lotus Elise. A very very responsive car, bordering on twitchy. In GT4, very easy to drive and far too forgiving. in Enthusia, you ned to pay attention to your grip much more, as each tyre's grip is handled separately, it's easy to lock a rear tyre and turn it around.

Theres no need for 40 different skyline versions from various years, the top grades of each body style would hav been perfectly acceptable and not made finding the car you actually WANT in your list of cars harder. 600 different cars that all fall into maybe 16 different categories is un neccisary.

Enthusia's lack of a cash system frees you from the "buy car -> earn money -> buy parts -> buy faster car" monotony of the GT series. due to the level up system its possible to stick withone car youre comfortable with for most of the game.

since this has gotten off topic i'm going to just make my next point and then go back on topic.

You've managed to defend GT4's "flavor" thats all, the physics engine and handling dynamics are dumbed down to the point of being laughable once youve experienced a real sim. Once you go LFS you dont go back.

Even though i dont think any of the beginners would drive on it, i think mount panorama would be a great track for the sim. Its a challenge for the more advanced players.

Of course, I've been thinknig about driving up to Lexington with a petition to try to get the management of Mid Ohio Sports Car Course to allow a reproduction of thier course.

Anyone any good at amking a petition web page so that i could print it all off at once?

GT4 is no where near as good as enthusia or LFS.

Lets start with something simple. Hop into a 700 horsepower rear wheel drive car in GT4, take traction control off and slam the gas. The wheels spin and it takes off in a nice straight line. Do the same in Enthusia and youve gotta keep the rear end under control, because one tyre might lose grip before the other and the rear end will try to swap around on you.

Both have the Nordeschliefe, and people grumble because the version in Enthusia is not only more accurate but also beautiful, BECAUSE IT ISNT PERFECTLY SUNNY.

GT4's dumbed down. It's okay for cutting your teeth, but the real meat of sim racing isnt there. On the PS2 its Enthusia, and on the PC its LFS.

Quote from Sketchyrollin564 :Um, nurburgring is a famous track. Reguardless of playing GT4 or not, MANY people know of it. Same with laguna seca. Not so much Tsukuba, unless you live in japan.

And all 3 are present in a certain PS2 based racing sim that many poor souls claim to be the best racing game "evar". There was a joke involved, have a sense of humor.

Quote from -M- :If cars are exactly the same... Why should they sound different?

because the cars of LFS present themselves an such a way that they are an "anycar", the XF GTi could be almost any hot hatch you can imagine it to be. As such it has a ery vague set of engine specs, a small displacement inline 4 is very common, so who's to say whether it's a Megane's inline for or a Civic's?

Beyond that, while some cars may run the same engine, thier intake and exhaust systems may be different, which results in different sounds. built to the same set of regulations doesnt neccisarily mean identical cars. Take BTCC for example. Every one of those cars is required to fall under the same restrictions.

hmmm... Tsukuba, Laguna Seca, and Nurburgring....

Alex, What are three courses that you only know about because of gran turismo 4?

(those of you who get the joke, thank you, those who dont... dont)

a really really cool camera would be NASCAR's "Skeeter Cam".

Its an RC helecopter with a camera in the nose. The name came from when someone likened it to shoving a camera p a mosquito's nose.

loev the way the cameras pan tilt and zoom, like theres actually someone trying to keep an F1 car in frame rather than having it just mechanically home in on the cars

Back on topic... i think the lag was aoriginally brought up as a trade-off for higher boost pressure.

in this case lower pressure = lower lag + lower increase ni HP + friendlier for tight courses.

high pressure = high lag = hgiher increase in HP = a right strong kick in the arse when it's properly spun up

Those of you that understand that you dont need skins bigger than 512,i applaude you.

THose of you that understand that your skins are stored in 1024 and available for you to redownload, double pat on the back, youve been paying attention.

THose of you who don't get the fact that the upload bandwidth FROM LFS world costs the devs money and would cost more with 1024 ingame downloads.... you're retarded. That cost would get passed along to us (more likely new users buying new liscences) making the sim less accessible.

If i had the option i might download even lower res skins so i dont have to clean out the skins x directory as often, and spend less time downloading when i get on a server. As long as i can tell the difference between liveries I am a happy man.

Funny, i was hoping for an option like this, it would save me a great deal of trouble in a league I'm starting to organize. Instead of lengthy tech inspections and disqualifications after the race i could just flip a switch.

it would all have to be run locally, and using insim and outsim you can get the location of other cars, thus you could recreate the problem of unclean airflow behind another car.

and indeed most cars you could idle, outguage and insim also have car type tags so that the program could know which type of car is running, and how much heat it makes

as for making it fair, a host program could use the chat function to send a seed number, where upon the client program would respon with the number the seed generates. He who does not match is kicked from the server by the host program
