I'd like this just to have mileage per tank variation when we have weather simulation. Amp's right, not much difference would be seen in club level racing, but it would make huge differences with the ammounts of fuel endurance racers go through.

Quote from amp88 :In professional racing mass is more commonly used than volume because fuel volume differs with temperature. 20 litres of fuel at 20 degrees Celsius will be heavier than 20 litres of fuel at 50 degrees Celsius because the colder fuel is more dense. The volume changes with temperature but the mass stays the same.

Solid point and well grounded. However possibly beyond the bounds of what Scavier may wish to accomplish.

How much does the density vary over ther temperture range usually experienced in an F1 (to arbitrarily pick a series) season? Assuming that its significant, fuel density would have an effect on fuel mileage since fuel/air mixtures will be assumed to be optimal. Could be rather interesting for Endurance racing, or even feature lengh races, once weather is in place. A change in weather could make a difference in fuel strategy and a viable use of fuel mix adjustment

Good solid suggestion. I never noticed this before as when I was racing actively I would discuss with teammates rather then review replays.

Quote from kirmy :I think that all road cars on lfs should have the gear number, on the dials removed, a cant think of any road car in real life that has the gear number indicated on the dials, it would certainly make for some interesting moments in corners, what do you guys think?

Toyota MR2 Spyder
Various exotic sports cars...
Any car modified for the kind of adjustability available in an LFS car
if i could really be bothered with it i could fetch more examples.

i thought that monkey looked familiar...

as far as finding out the max RPM of each vehicle its pretty easy once you have an outguage program displaying RPM numerically. put car in neutral and pin the throttle, record max RPM,

Would it be possible to get support of Phidgets in SimGuage? I was working in a dashboard project with them but my programmer disappeared on me

th reason i ask is that they are a pretty good start for engineering your own cockpit. all i have for now is the text 8/8/8 but you can display plenty of information between a 2X20 text LCD and 8 led's

a few of those variants are possible without being dangerous, and the rest are possible with only a little bit of added asphalt. I believe i submitted one a while back that used even more of the course, but required a little extra asphalt.

the turn that goes from Ky3 to Ky1r, could be augmented with an off camber turn tothe right around the oval, to the entry point fo rthe infield roadcourse, which would bring back across the oval almost to the same place you entered the oval originally, where you would resume your run around KY3. THAT would be maximum use of the track facility

Ah, my mistake, Belain (aka Orgi) posted the KY GP Very Long layout, back when we were still talking to eachother.

I'll post a link to the thread with our combined suggestions

after 4 pages i just wanted to gouge my eyes out.

I propose the disolving of the Europoean Union as it stands and teh formation of the European Automotive Nanny State. Since the leader for such a nation must be Overbearing, Condescending and have a two foot long piece of 3/4 inch bar stock shoved up thier bum, I nominate Tristan.

okay, now that ive got the satire out of my system:

I have to agree with Fastback, 130 bhp isn't enough to be "dangerous" (all cars are dangerous if nto respected, but 130 isn't remarkable.) I often find over here in the states that its actually barely enough, with the way some road ways are designed. Lower horsepower makes you less likely to have a silly moment that ends you up in the ditch on your own, however conversely it also makes the car more dangerous in traffic (such as merging onto highways from urban roads on relatively short access ramps). Low power vehicles pose a danger to not only the driver of the vehicle, but all vehicles around them, as they scramble to cope with a car going much slower than them, in a "high speed" situation.

As far as idiots on the road...... yeah. I'm gonna make a youtube video this weekend, an open letter to the motorists of Ohio entitled "USE YOUR F*CK1NG TURN SIGNALS!!". Nothing pisses me off on the road worse than a sudden move from a car intoa tigh space between me and the car in front of me. Conversely and second only to the previous offense are people who insist on moving into the space that I just signalled I'm about to move into. Both dangerous and stupid situations caused by ignorance.

Tristan, I honestly don't think that bumping driving ages back would make any difference. Remember, Stupid is forever.

Fischfix, i do believe an openwheel division would deffinitely require more skilled drivers, but the one make GTR's provide the best competition, in my experience so far.

Both would make for incredibly exciting racing. The GTR's allow for a llittle fender to fender and fighting for the positions, while the F1 cars or Formula V8's would be just as exciting because you cant get away with the contact, you have to fight cleanly or end up outof the race.

I'm all for a tire restriction, anything to increase the level of competition is good.

Atlantian, I'd like to ask you a single question. In fact I would like to direct the question at all the oval bashers.

Lets just totally forget that racing is a spectator sport for a minute. After all we dont play LFS to be spectators, we are here to be drivers, and in some cases support a driver via voice over IP. So the spectator followings don't matter here.

That said the question is quite simple, and I probably already know atlantian's answer. Have you ever experienced (sim racing or otherwise) the tension of being in the middle of a 3 wide situation, where the slightest twitch will take all 3 of you off track, at 170+ mph?

The answer is most likely no, oval bashers have not experienced this. And they aren' willing to, for fear of being proven wrong.

Even in the BMW-Sauber F1.06 the above situtation is truly hair raising, because of just how fast things happen at that speed. You might think that statement is a little obvious, but think about it for a moment. You are mere inches from your opponents, leaving you with less than a rally course's width to race on, in a situtation where you must recognize the fact that while racing these people, you must also cooperate to avoid mutually assured destruction, and if any of the 3 (or 4, ive seen this happen on the Kyoto oval as well) sneezes, twitches, or even shifts your foot on the throttle, it will end the race for all 3 of you.

Quote from UncleBenny :Not necessarily. If you look at some of the cars they run on the ovals the frame looks like its bent all to hell because it makes it turn better. Can't really see it from the side but if you look at it straight on you can definitely tell. Wish I could find a picture of it. Of course, the road course cars would be built symmetrical.

Anyway, with the new "car of tomorrow" they aren't allowed to do that any more.

didn't he say "symettrical" in his post?

Hey guys,

ZWR ,your favorite guy(s) in orange, have decided to start over again. We are looking for friendly, and clean racers. Fast would be nice too, but ZWR didn't get nominated for friendliest team of the year by putting speed before personality!

Obviously 2008 will be a rebuilding year for us, and we won't be where we were right off the bat. You don't end up with a roster like I had overnight.

And here's Zwarte Wind Racing's mission statement:

Fun
Sim Racing is a hobby. At no point should someone force themselves to participate if they aren't having fun. Fun is why we are here, right?
Fair
Fairness is important, both in and outside the team. Observe league and server rules. If you're mistaken, admit it and move on. Don't take digs at people on the forums.
Friendly
When greeted, say hello. Little things add up to our team image. Bad news spreads faster than good news. The same goes for our reputation. Offer setups if you have them, be polite when asking for a setup, or rules clarification. It all adds up.

It is with regret that I announce that Zwarte Wind Racing will close it's doors, effective immediately, due to mutinous behavior on the part of the team's members while the team principal was on an extended leave of abscence.
All members are to immediately cease the use of Zwarte Wind Racing's Intellectual property including but not limitted to:
Team Name
Team Tag
Team Logo
Skins bearing logo name and/or address
UFOC ownership will be decided by a community poll due to ZWR involvement, since the series is largely associated with ZWR by the community.

Not something that I wanted to happen, but had to be done as a result of irresolvable differences.
