i'm having similar problems now for a month or sth.
Im online, mostly cruising caused by lack of time for serious racing, and at some point the display freezes the sound repeats the last second about 3 to 5 times and i'm all the way back to windows desktop.
i've installed "Electrik Kar's" latest texture pack and via autodownload the skins of other players.
the problems started around the time of Electrik Kar's texture pack, but i seriously doubt that this is the problem, since i had long sessions on the LTC Race Server where track combos change very frequently thus producing lot's of loading big textures stress, and it ran just fine for hours.
Aside from the mentioned nothing else changed...
I don't even get a message about the incident from the "event log".
try and see it this way:
You can never tell where your limits are, if you never had crossed one.
Even by accident, all experience you collect makes you a better driver.
Get well soon, and don't get too mushee about teh girls, it happens some day and it may struck you like a 3 phasic lightning.
@ tristan: The number of phases doesn't matter, it's the voltage and your body-resistance wich results the current flow of deadly energy. and of course the exposure time
i assume you're missing the "contact" to other cars the little bumps and close racing in generall, the small pieces of gravel in the wheel housing, the dirt on your windshield the blue smoke from all these engines revving... etc.
i'm missing that certain something too, but hey we'll get it.
It's just a matter of time.
and think about the race commentators, idk but i assume in reality they watch at least 4 groups of fighting racers and filter the "action" for us single "monitorians"...
and in the end it's like on ebay where the bad guys give themselfes "good" votes...
i really don't want to bash your idea, but i'm having serious trouble about the honesty of the people...
we'll see how it develops and wish you all good things.
you cannot have a clean objective unbiased rating system, if the raters are full of all sorts of emotions during the heated race...
And even after a race, assuming the race distance was long enough, the rating decision would still be emotional influenced...
i'd say it's not possible to implement that, and even if the decision was made by the machine, based on statistic data accumulated during the race, some racers would bring up arguments about unfair "rating" algorithms, like seen on the CTRA servers and their decision finding process concerning their point system...
how do you plan to distinguish from "ebay"'s failed user rating system?
as far as i understood, there's nothing to back a bad rating towards anyone... (a replay or a second whitness etc.)
if i got your point completely wrong, then sorry in advance...
right, plus, hibernating is usefull to pause pending operations like converting large videos (wich likely take a good amount of time), because of a friend is in need of some components from my pc to determine what component died on his machine and returns it after 20 minutes.
I won't lose my 0,00% of processed video data.
i can dismantle the pc, transport it elsewhere, re-combine ALL components back toghether and continue where i "paused" the OS.
Technically a OS could be cloned that way, using the exact same parts in another machine.
i love that option, but i'm getting concerned about large memories beeing transferred to HDD and back (like 32GB) i bet a standard boot would be faster in any case, compared to hibernation.
good one, AND in the event of forced breaks, the programm should continue to connect/load/prepare whatever, so i don't need to wait that time plus the forced time!
true, i had/have your problem too at least sometimes, even on the relaxed cruise servers, when i join a race for money, i get so excited, my heart feels like hopping out my throat.
But then, staying behind a equaly fast car proves race-sensitivity and a cool head.
It builds up pressure on the leading driver, which is a common tactic in motorsport.
Try to relax and ignore the follower, even if he slightly disturbs your lines, you can't say anything about it.
After all the small collisions just happen in a competition.
U'll soon feel better and get more confident after you !stayed! with someone else in close driving
So wash your hands, buckle the seatbelt, and join the madness...
?? sometimes it has a small hickup (lfs) when winamp loads a *.ape or fires the synthesizers for *.sid files but i cannot share your experience, not even beeing on a lan where the comp was strained much more overall...
one thing i've noticed is some hostility towards demo's just because of their status, as if demo users can't post usable content or be subject to a nice discussion.
in short (my understanding) you're not taken serious because of your demo status.
it's like in some situations from real life like the first meeting of your girlfriends parents, some of them won't accept you even if you are the brightest one from the girlfriends chosen ones, because you don't have a dime in your pocket.
It's a oooold bad habbit, existing for ages...
for the sake of the conversation, you can use a secondary soundcard for final fantasy VIII's sound output the midi-music wich uses the wave-out cannot be configured "mute" thus rendering the whole sound output of the computer mute if you don't want to listen to the music of FF VIII.
so you can use the "other" soundcard to output anything else but the FF VIII sounds...
erm, guys?
steam is just outdated, and therefore called 'failed'
think a few genarations further and our grandchildren might say the same about todays petrol/diesel(un/watered)/natural gas/powercells (alcohol/hydrogen)...
failed concepts?
i disagree, because it was the best that science could offer (maybee not) but what the industry tought was most 'money making successful'.
so could we please stop flamming ourselfes about history?
well, get a borrowed one from a friend, we even changed a complete comp with some friends just to figure out (then in the end) that it was the power cable :S
try a spare gfxcard, and a pc-hardwaremonitor-plotter (temperatures-measurement and writing them into a file).
let things go as usually and view the file after a crash...
then i suggest you find some reasonable people to race on a daily basis.
really you don't need to wonder if you get trown out if you to race with "hot-shots"
so don't take that audience to seriously.
regards
