Simple answer: LFS is fun unlike every other "boring" sim. Sims are boring to everybody but true fans of motorsports and LFS has much more to it than that. LFS is a game with cars in a realistic way. It can be as fun or as serious as its players make it.

And to make it even more amazing, LFS does not have any arcadey features and options like other sims have (easy arcade physics, damage off, tirewear off, time, wear, fuel multiplyers and so on). It always stays totally true and realistic and its still fun. No other sim ever achieved that.

Quote from Michel 4AGE :Would be awesome if we had a track like the Nordschleife

Anyway for those who haven't seen JC @ Nordschleife with the Jaguar, I'm currently uploading it, good quality,70Mb.

Done : www.jpc-board.nl/Movies/TGRing.wmv

WOW

These guys know how to make a presentation. I don't regret downloading this for 3 days on a modem. Even if I knew many things about Nordschleife this show got me all hyped up and inspired, I'm downloading now the track for Racer.

I couldn't care less for the Jaguar but that woman is great. Reminds me of me when I'm teaching some buddies when they come over how to drive: "...accelerate, accelerate, ACCELERATE!... thats not really a corner" And in the end he was genuinely ecstatic when he did it under 10 minutes. Amazing.

Gotta remember to watch Top Gear, I always forget when its on. Thanks for this!

Oh and to stay a bit on topic: that guy talking about driving the track in Xbox game and then doing it for real, coming on one bumpy corner and "Oh my God! This wasn't in the game!" Actually that's quite dangerous isn't it. Being overconfident driving simulated track then getting a nasty and potentially disastrous surprise just because few bumps havent been modeled correctly. Always a trouble with real tracks. I mean its never really real, its just too difficult to do it exactly right.

So this makes Eric's LFS tracks perfectly real - they don't exist anywhere else! When we drive Blackwood we REALLY DO drive Blackwood, not its copy cause this is IT. We don't pretend to be in Nuerburgring and play like we really drive it, we don't play a game hehe.

There was a very nice, long and interesting thread about Nordschleife on old RSC LFS forum. IIRC the licence for that track in a game is expressed in 5 digit number euros.

Oh, and we have some sort of track editor right now and it works online already: autocross layouts editor.

Further improvements to that would be very nice, like adding curbing objects, even maybe defining tarmac and grass areas (ok thats quite difficult, just adding 'sand spilled over tarmac' kind of object would be enough for now to mark the 'out of track'), so we could create kart tracks at least... but thats a different topic.

Ah yes yes, I remember rear inside wheel of the FWDs most often "flicks" in green a little after the hairpin and it made no sound during braking for that. Is that that bug?

Situations I described are when wheels on one side are dirty. Otherwise either I don't lock wheels or I don't notice they were locked. Neither during braking nor after with F9.

6. I can deffinately hear in left or right headphone which wheel is locking and the car also pulls on the opposite side if that happens. I don't get what problems do people have with this. After going through that corner I can get a visual check on F9 seeing which wheel colours "flicker".

Guillemot Ferrari Force Feedback Racing Wheel. Looks the same as Thrustmaster GT someone posted before except pedals are different and better than those. I can't find the pics right now.

Team info from LFS World could also be included in some way.

@Gunn, at leats in hotlap charts I didn't notice anyone without the country. But yes LFS icon/flag would be for those who want to live in a State of LFS.

@farcar, something like that was done before in official Ladder cometition as well as dLadder later after that and it was quite nice. It's not active anymore though.

But to all, demo league is not necessarily a noob league. At least in our little demo events we have experienced racers from other sims as well as real life racers together with noobs, and we are divided in two divisions/servers according to the posted hotlap times or results from previous events. Works well. No need to exclude good drivers from demo league, quite on the contrary it gives new drivers something to aim for and they can see how it should be done and of course improve.

I've just tried show by country filter on hotlap charts. Everything works as it should but it doesn't work for Serbia and Montenegro, it just shows everything, probably because that has been added later (doesn't work for just Serbia either, that entry is also new).

While I'm at it, theres also no flag for Serbia and Montenegro in hotlaps compare. It seems that's a bigger version of the flag and that is missing for my country, I just get the LFS icon or nothing at all depending on the page: separate compare page or the little one beside the chart.

Flag for Serbia is also missing everywhere, 26 people have registered so far with that and flag for them would be nice too. And here it is, in a slightly bigger resolution than needed: http://www.parlament.sr.gov.yu ... zavna_zastava_wp_1024.jpg

Nobody has registered with just Montenegro so far, so I can look for their flag if you wanna finish the job now, or leave it for later when it could actually be useful. OK, here it is: http://www.vlada.cg.yu/img/1095339589.jpg

Sorry Victor for putting work on you for this, but lets make it complete.

Thank you in advance.

Well Boris, we all know that but people totaly new to LFS don't. Theres no easy and 'official' way for them to learn those guidances, like it is easy to skip the warning and join any demo server. I hope Vykos put some links and guides in together with those 300'000 (three hundred thousand noobs are coming! run for your lives! ) LFS demos on new Fujutsu Siemens PC's.

It seems that it is our job to spread the spirit of LFS racing to new people, and we would have to spend bit more time on demo servers to do that. Everybody who wants, take your time to just be there, be yourself, race well like you do and talk and help the others like you always do. I'm doing that quite often because many friends are still racing only in demo, and if people with more experience are there, all that mayhem that you might think is there is not at all that bad as it seems from outside. There are a couple of servers with good and friendly atmosphere for most of the time, but still, admins cannot be present there throughout the day. We need more people. So whenever you have nothing better to do, take your time and sink into the wilderness. Make a better image for LFS.

Its a tedious job, I hate policing the servers arguing with childish people but someone's gotta do it sometimes. But the reward for seeing someone new liking what he sees and not being put off by idiots, which would happen otherwise, and joining us in the whole fun LFS is, is well worth it I think.

T is for driver changes. If you want to drive someone elses car you click on the T beside his name. When he pits he clicks the T as well and as the pitstop is finished voila! You drive his car.

The last column is controller. W for wheel, M for mouse, Ks for keyboard stabilised and Kn for Keyboard no-help.

There is transmission sound, just it is quiet.

Somebody suggested before to make some ambient sounds as an ogg file and play that as music while racing. I'll try to make something nice and quiet when I have time (and if I remember to do it). Something that doesn't sound odd with empty grandstands in LFS. Distant traffic in South City, little birds in Blackwood with bit of wind in trees, more of the same for other tracks or a mix of those, all very subtle... Its difficult to think what do you REALLY hear as an atmosphere on an empty racetrack.

Hehe, I was driving 13 KS rental kart here: www.adakart.co.yu
I was talking about going through the second part of that long decresing radius left turn. But the laptime was very good even if it felt I could use more of the track here and there and go a tad more faster.

PS those pictures are old, no curbs have been done yet at that time. Yeah sorry going OT.

mmm that chirpy bouncing deep sound. But I was getting that on exit of the curve mostly and steering wheel was shaking. I suppose thats good.

Rental karts being the only racing thing that I drove in real life, I'd surely love to have them in LFS. But on the other hand, LFS and other sims before it have taught me to drive fast and that helped me imensely to be fast in a real kart in short time without too much experience in it, just a bit of adjusting. As principles are the same it doesn't really matter that much what we drive in a sim.

No, I'm not agianst karts in LFS. We already have a hidden kart track in autocross area and we suspect devs have tried that already. I'm sure they will do it when they can do it right.

And just a personal preference... I really don't like shifter karts racing on big tracks, even if they do it in real life. Thats even stranger than racing MRT's. Its just weird and out of the place.

This movie deserves more attention so I'll comment again. It really shows what a true artist, skilled director, can do with LFS at his disposal as his world. Cameras, scenery, actors, video effects, music and sound, everything was used to full potential in a tasteful manner to bring us the story and immerge us in the atmosphere.

MPT Story is much more than a team promo movie. If you didn't see it you don't know what you're missing.

Thank you very much. I was already aware of most of the things you said here, but thanks again. Clear and helpful.

I guess I'll just have to try and see if it works, or opening up and checking if pots are the same. I can't check the wiring. But I don't think anything could go wrong if wiring or pots resistance is not correct? It would just work or wouldn't work or wouldn't work well? No damage could be done?

These pedals are set in the driver for combined or separate axis so... half of the wiring probelm is gone it seems. It's the Guillemot Ferarri Force Feedback Wheel and I'm quite liking the pedals and they still work well, so I'm considering backup solutions if Logitech's pedals turn out to be a pain as I read everywhere. Of course, plugging both wheels normally is the safest.

What does connectior for pedals look like on MOMO and DFP? Is it the same as mini DIN? I'm not sure if mini DIN what it is exactly but it looks very much like that on my Guellemot wheel. Asking that if my old pedals could be just pluged into a new Logitech wheel (that I don't have yet ).

Quote from TagForce :1 mile = 1760 yards = 5,280 feet = 63,360 Inches.

And who and why and when came up with such a ridiculous number? Ok sorry, I will search myself, no need to answer. But I would bet 90% of people using imperial measures don't know that.

In GPL theres automatic brake being applied so you dont accidentaly move when start is on up/downhill. And some seconds before the actual start you can freely move and brake would dissengage automatically as you do so. You'll get a black flag and you'd have to pit if you moved earlier than the start flag drop and the length of the stop and go penatly is appropriate to how early you started.

Do we want also to have to hold the brake on Blackwood starting grid so it would be totally realistic?

GPL is Grand Prix Legends by Papyrus of course.
