I sort of agree with you on that, it is nice to see some physical updates. But i think enough work has been done recently by scawen on the language patch, that there wont be any other major updates for a long while. Thus, it will also be a long while until we see any physical updates the come out with the new incompatible stuff.
I might just be my perception, but with scawen being on the forum loads doing the lanuage it has kept people quiet as they can see what has been getting worked on. So, IMO i think it would be a bit daft to release any pics of new GFX stuff as the hype would go through the roof.
I have every faith they are beavering away in the background, think how long it has been since S2 alpha release.
i dont think anyone out there is a complete driver :P
i find the best way is like what has been said, variety is key. but dont vary it too quickly. i find it best to do at least an hour's driving on a particular combo to get anywhere near consistant on it.
also, as a gauge as to your speed, look at the WR and aim to get within say 4-5 seconds of that time. this is very much dependant on your skills and the combination as on some tracks it is alot easier to come within 1second of WR. also use your fellow racers to gauge your speed, if there is a ver fast driver on a server, maybe ask for his setup, but also spectate his driving. that way you can see the right angles for each corner, the speeds and the correct gear.
one other point - there isnt alot of point practicing on a crappy setup, make sure you at least have a good/comfortable setup for your car.
hehe, you would think that someone who is at the least interested in CPU cooling would have twigged that those little lines were actually there for a reason!
he didnt even try drilling the holes in relatively 'blank' spot!
by the way, you might notice a FPS increase because...
i use the Nvidia GFX profiler for LFS, so when you update to patch Q your EXE gets overwritten, thus your LFS settings change. I need to reset my AA and AF settings back upto what they were before, or at least re-select the EXE file.
just a thought anyway, you guys might be getting a genuine increase for another reason
Thanks chaps, good work!
I very much appreciate the help that members of these forums have given the devs to help them with these language packs. Even though it has no relevance to me, it should allow an even broader range of people to come online and race.
Also glad to see another 'to do' knocked off the big 'to do' list
I'm looking forward to the physics updates Hopefully they will have a significant impact on handling/grip.
Good work!
@GianniC: I suspect that a physics patch will not be car specific, but will cover the entire range i.e. all the tyre physics - the slip/grip angle that people have mentioned. I think all the cars are updated anyway, bar the RB4 graphically?
Alot of setups are good, its just finding the right one to match your driving style. Sinbads setups seem to do this perfectly. I have tried both the LX4 and XRR setups and they worked wonders with my laptimes.
I am eagerly awaiting a 'Sinbad Setup pack' Any chance you could post your own setups Sinbad?
Also, if anyone wants a LX4 race, just pop into dSRC server. If im there just ask, and ill go setup our other server if it isnt being used.
pulling off an over-take after battling with someone for serveral laps can be so satisfying! especially if they are at a similar level to your own. ive had some great battles in the past.
it makes it so much more satisfying and worth the effort if you get just one good overtaking maneouver in a race, even if its for the penultimate place!
watch out for a racer called 'rael', he is a proper git to overtake! he is/was a racer in real life, and he can block so well. i can remember racing him on BL1 in S2 demo days, i was over a second a lap faster than him, but he could hold me off all day if he wanted to! i learned alot racing against him! racing line/track position is sooooo important.
I was easily hooked after playing the LFS demo.
I WAS NOT hooked after playing the GTR demo which included some GT cars. (but maybe its because im practically a fanboy :P )
But i totally agree about the setups.
Each car should be supplied with a number of setups, because a good setup is a subjective opinion. Bobs easy race setups could be a good start, but these should be paired up with more difficult (read faster) setups. This would give a choice and a natural progression for new users to advance from one set to another once a car has been 'learned'.
However, this probably isnt such a good idea at the moment. With LFS being updated all the time, physics changes will soon render any setups useless. I suspect the devs would employ a setup guru to provide a range of setups to supply with LFS when S2 (at the earliest) gets its final updates. If not with S2 then finally with S3.
Barring supplying setups with LFS, the next best option would be to supply a 'HELP' button underneath the setups bar in the garage to provide people with a link to the INFERNO website or any other setup pages. Or at the least to indicate that there are other pre-made setups out there. An indication should also be made that people can send you setups online. Sometimes when i offer someone a setup online they respond with "how do i do that?" Some first time users wont have a clue that they can even adjust or download new setups as they assume you just get in and drive.
I guess the biggest factor is that the defualt setups shouldnt put people off! And that they should be made aware that if they dont like a setup, they can get more easily.
you dont 'install' as such. just unzip the files into LFS folder. let them overwrite the old files. they then organise themselves when LFS starts. sorted.
