Quote from tristancliffe :I don't think it was. If it was on purpose he did it very badly, risking damage and a flat spot. But as everyone loves to hate a winner I can understand why people thought it was on purpose.

a flat spot? barely. a 40mph skid is more likely to put a skid in his pants rather than a flat spot on his tyres! he barely even locked up anyway, it was just for show.

To me it was very obviously cheating. As soon as I saw him do it I thought he did it on purpose, even before the presenters raised that point.

There is no way a driver of Shumacher's skill could make such a nooby mistake like that. Completely unsporting. You could tell from his sheepish interview afterwards that he was trying to cover his tracks. I hope he gets put to the back of the grid.

Right, just to put this one to bed...sort of.

At least I now know what is causing the problem. After all my tests etc, it seems that Packet Loss is not the primary cause! Packet Loss is bad, but is not the main factor in this case.

It seems my ISP, Talktalk, have restrictions on basically the majority of ports that are NOT used primarily for browsing. So you can browse all you like and use the internet as normal, but when it comes to using P2P software or online gaming on a similar port range then you are stuffed

Basically the ISP is restricting these ports, making it pretty useless to try and play games online.

The way I discovered this was that at 12.30 at night, my line would go magically go back to normal! This is because the ISP lifts the port restrictions at this time of night.

I have asked my ISP to lift the restrictions to port 63392 as used by most LFS servers, but as yet I have had no luck

As a test to this, HackerX ran a server on port 113, which worked perfectly. So obviously some lower ranges of ports are not blocked, probably those around port 80 used for browsing.

So those of you with similar problems, I would check with your ISP about what port restrictions they have. Unfortunately for me I will have to wait untill my contract runs out before I can switch ISP and return to normal use.

This ties in with the other thread in this section with F1 drivers who died. Some of the stuff in there is really gruesome and I would rather stuff like that was kept off of these forums, there are kids about and even if you put a warning on them they are still likely to click the links.

I say be more responsible about what you post, we really don't need to see that sort of thing at all.

IMO I think the admins should remove these links as well as that F1 one. I know people die and its a fact of racing, but do we really need to be shown the sick details.

Basically, the only point at which the devs have even suggested allowing other to work on LFS content, is after LFS full is out.

I prefer it this way anyway, as everyone gets the same high quality content.

I realise you aren't suggesting complete modding, but basically the devs have managed to work really well as they are up untill now, and I see no reason to change it. It might be slow, but thats their way

Hmm, I guess I am probably a bit late, but these videos are down now

Are they hosted elsewhere? They look really good and I like Don's work after taking a peek at the BF1 video.

Of course my teammates - dSRC
Mercury racing team
vMax
FACers
old team NiC

And lots and lots of other teams and individuals who ive raced with. basically, if I didn't shout "get off the road you damn noob/wrecker" then you were probably a good driver

It works here Ian. I tried Race mode anyway, as a server and in single player. My AI were fine. I tried both drag strips too just to be sure.

Are you sure you arent running an autocross setup or something? (if thats possible)

Maybe you have corrupt AI?

But i do miss silly RWD drivers trying to overtake this machine of elegance so if you are reading Mr Roberts please can you slow down my car a touch, nothing drastic just a reduction of power

you mean real drivers yeah

I must admit, I do miss being competitive with the XRT vs. FXO. Its a good thing my LX4 can still munch your FXO on the smaller tracks

As for the FZR, the MoE race really showed that their is no disadvantage in taking the FZR seeing as the tyres are now alot more managable on it, and the extra fuel consumption is obviously negated by its extra speed.

IMO, each class should have two cars near the top of the class and an 'easier' car. That way, if you want to be competitive at least you have a choice.

Sure, we don't want identical cars, but IMO the the rear-engined FZR and front-engined XRT are a big enough difference already in terms of handling. Also, one car will ALWAYS be faster than the other, purely determined by driver and track combination. However, if the top cars were at least able to trade hotlaps from track to track, given whatever track they were most suited to, then the TBO4 and GTR classes would be a bit more mixed up.

Quote from tritoch :first off, i dowlnoaded this yesterday and started yesterday. secondly, I didn't know there will only be 3 stages, and thirdly, I don't even have a steering wheel yet. I use my joystick with 3 sensitivities. [left, centre, and right]

so, im not sure if its worth getting before the steering wheel.

well, now that you know the story i would focus on practicing to see if you like it. any simulation like LFS can be a little difficult at first, particularly if you dont have the best controller setup.

your joystick has 3 sensitivities? is it not analogue? you should have smooth steering at least with that, and use KB buttons for throttle. its not ideal, but it is a good start in learning the game.

have fun and i hope you will enjoy it enough to join us on the S2 servers.

Quote from SparkyDave :Mrbogeyman I wonder what your connection ratio is, maybe you have some high bandwith neighbours powering down late at night ?

What rev firmware did you upgrade to (dg834) and just out of interest have you tried running just 1 PC from the router after a router reboot and checking this prob happens on more than 1 port?

SD.

Yeah, ive done all that Dave. Ive tried new firmware etc etc, and only a single PC on the router. I have tested with the original freebie ADSL modem from the ISP too.

As for the contention ratio, while it may be high, upto 50:1, I very much doubt I have any real high usage neibours. I stay in a village so I very much doubt there are that many high demand users. Especially not any who run their high-demand like clockwork and switch it off at midnight It had crossed my mind.

Therefore I am still 90% sure it is the exchange/network. Anyway, I will phone again now and be a bit more persistant.
