No, wired Netgear DG834. The router firewall has been totally checked out, it is definately not the problem.
I dont see how what you said about the line getting knocked out would affect me dave.
I am with talktalk, and surely if the line got reset i would temporarily loose connection? Which doesnt happen btw. Also, whatever it is that is happening at around midnight, is good! It sorts the line out. I need to figure out what is happening, and try and replicate it, rather than ask them to stop
Thanks for the info. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Just a quick question for those of you in the know....
Does any part of the LFS network, i.e. Master Server, reset at approximately midnight or shortly after?
I ask this because LFS starts to run perfectly online after about this time. It is not a gradual thing, it is instant. One moment racing online is impossible with 150ms average pings, the next it is 40ms pings and working like it was before!
So, is it something on the LFS side?
Otherwise, does anyone have any knowledge of what ISPs/Network exchanges do that could explain this? i.e. do they auto-reset at this time of night? Does the network magically clean up somehow? I checked with ping-plotter when it started running perfectly and I still get packet losses??!!
I am really at a loss as to what is causing this and I intend to phone the ISP again tomorrow, but I would like something more specific to ask about.
Take my team mate Dodo, he calls me 'BOOGEE' on Teamspeak. Where I would phonetically pronounce it 'BO-GAY' (ignore the gay bit )
So its not 'BOOGERS' as some yanks might say.....
Its not Mr_Boooogeyman
Its BOGEY....as in...you have a large bogey hanging out your left nostril.
OR...."Watch out for enemy fire, BOGEY on your six" nnnnnnnneeerggghhh daga daga crash bang wallop.
edit: oh yes the topic, its Live as in 'I live on another planet' DUH!
I know this is fairly obvious but I don't think it has been mentioned...
What happened to the 'WRONG WAY - KICK' server option? That would at least prevent alot of instances of wrecking. Maybe I just haven't experienced it lately as I am usually an admin on the servers I race on.
While my experiences of wreckers aren't really that bad and I can't say I have seen them much on S2, but I am not going to disagree with Fordy. Even if it wasn't on a large scale, I still believe there should be some sort of system in place specifically to prevent blatant wreckers.
It is just like being a kid....If you break or spoil someones toys, you get punished. So go sit in the corner! What if bans/kicks came with a 'sinbin' feature? e.g. Your S2 license is revoked for like 30mins as a 'chillout' punishment period. I know this would be open to abuse by spam banner/kickers but at least if done properly the culprits would actually suffer some consequences for their actions. At the moment, nobody gets punished for being a wrecker, other than being punted from one server to another.
It is all a very muddled colour of grey unfotunately, and I can't see it being easy to implement a system that cannot be abused
My bro is a photographer too, so I sort of realise how hard it can be to get the 'perfect' shot. However, I think all of those pics are of a really high quality and you can only learn and improve. Best of luck!
Personally I think it is a stupid rule. At the moment all the FIA seem to be doing is castrating the teams but removing all the technical areas in which they can improve. For me the technology is part and parcel of the F1 circus.
The only thing I think they need to encourage is overtaking. They should try out the split rear wing, or at least introduce rules restricting aero parts at the rear of the car, thus providing 'cleaner' air in which to slipstream.
I think the tinker men need to stop tinkering and think about what the sport needs! Overtaking!
well, from the looks of that your ISP sucks royally, just like mine
this is becoming VERY VERY common these days as ISP seek to provide QUANTITY over QUALITY of service.
i bet you have no problems downloading or anything else, meaning that you have plenty bandwidth, but unfortunately the quality of your service sucks big time. LFS is particularly sensitive to those packet losses, so basically LFS is a bit of a no go area
i am in the same boat. at the moment i am stuck to playing LFS over a LAN with my bro until i change ISP which i dont see happening very soon.
i agree though, nuclear is the only decent long term alternative. unless we want to cover the UK from lands end to john o groats in 100ft wind turbines......zzzzz
its like the plebs that say "dont test drugs on animals".....pffffffffft. ok, lets NOT cure cancer etc then, lets all die of curable diseases! or lets all be guinea pigs like those dudes who got royally screwed up in that recent clinical testing trial
hehe, first of all, when you run ping plotter, set it up to ping google or something like that. that way we can see the losses as it jumps from exchange to exchange.
i dont know what you did there as it only had one jump. look at my attachement to see what you should be looking for.
packet loss has nothing to do with your controllers, its your internet connect. just to make that clear.
like i said above, have you tried changing the minimum sleep setting at all? i think it is under misc in the options menu. it often helps when dealing with laggy controlers.
if you try things and rule them out then at least we can get closer to helping you resolve your problem.
