I have found out recently, after getting a new case, that everytime i switch on or plug in a USB device my CPU temps rise by about 8C. This is the same rise caused by playing LFS!
However, I would understand this if I were constantly using the USB device in question, but I am not.
What happens is, I start a USB device (plug in USB pen or switch on Printer) and the temperature rises. However, after I have finished with these devices and unplugged or switched them off, the CPU temp stays high. This is verified by restarting my PC, as the temps immediately drop back to normal. Even after playing LFS my temps go back down to normal.
I have checked the CPU loading in task manager by checking the processes, but it just shows the usual 99% idle process. If anyone knows of particular processes that might cause this let me know so I can test.
I have tried updating my USB drivers which didnt change anything.
This is an annoying problem, but not critical obviously, so any thoughts would be appreciated!
bob, if you were to ask nicely im sure a dSRC member could set one of our servers to a combo of your liking. well i would! and hopefully you might get a few folk in that way.
I hope what you say comes true, but I cant help thinking that you are upping the ante and possibly creating more hype and expectations.
I have every faith that the devs are busy, but I think it is a little bit presumptious to say exactly what will happen and when, unless you have insider knowledge...........(jk)
some people say LFS doesnt look right, but IMO, other games dont look right!
i really like the style of the LFS graphics, you dont need all the fancy special effects to get a completely believable and immersice car/track/environment.
i would say one of the strange things about LFS which you dont really get with other racers is that as well as looking forward to the new content and graphics updates, we also look forward to detailed and minute adjustments of the physics and game code that affect our gameplay.
eric does such good work that everytime we saw new screenshots before S2 alpha came out we were like....omg omg. such improvements show the true amount of effort and talent used in taking such steps.
i look forward to seeing the next steps, which i presume may be refinements of the current models (interiors) and stuff(?).
i think we have all heard every single argument that has been put forward hear umpteen times already.................zzzzzzzz
is nobody getting dizzy or bored?
i know you guys obviously disagree, but continually regurgitating the same points isnt getting us anywhere, and it is certainly not constructive.
everyone is aware of the faults in LFS, and the devs even more so. im sure every effort is being made to fix these faults, but only one step can be taken at a time.
for the mean time, keep yourselves happy with whatever works for you, if you dont like LFS, dont play it. i even get annoyed/bored with it sometimes.
ill stop now before i end up regurgitating what has already been said.
Did you have a source for that? Like a full guide. I have the Keys+Commands sheet compiled by P1LOT but thats it, no track or can listings on that just for reference sake.
Im waiting for the FFB to kick in, and the bird to hold on tight and get spun around
It would be like that bit in the old Wallace& Gromit animation 'A Grand Day Out' when Gromit tries to use a hand drill (you have to have seen it to know what im on about)
one example of the skid marks which i find excessive is just when pulling off the grid.
i was racing Gti last night, and surely a 1.3L car cannot leave 11 skidmarks that long
i know people mention the slip angles alot, but does this not involve elastic/torque grip within the tyres? i know the tyres are very spongey, and at the moment also with very low pressures, but it is still so easy for grip to brake away. in real life, in my opinion, a 1.3Gti would struggle pulling big 11 skidmarks with such low pressures.
maybe it is just an excessive ammount of 'skidmark draw' when actually very little skidding is taking place?
anywhoo, im pretty sure scawen knows what is needed, and any details/ideas/thoughts we have are helpful.
i think its a really good idea. surely it would get the AI upto a more acceptable level.
supposing you DL the Hotlap WR as starter for your AI! the AI should be immense and a real challenge. hopefully they wouldnt copy these laps exactly, but at least learn and try to immitate faster drivers.
as thisnameistaken suggests, there maybe problems, but i am pretty sure these can be overcome with some clever programming.
hopefully pitting will be included too if you could record and train the AI.
if you compare the Caterham vids to the Jaguar XJS ones that were posted you can see the difference in handling. The Jags have to take it easy at T1 at Brands, as they go all boaty then sink down and step out at the bottom of the hill, but the Caterhams barely notice it
Lotus 7 type cars are renowned for their hadling, and as yet i dont think this has translated into LFS. Seeing them drive at Caldwell park just shows how well they can take the bumps/elevation/direction changes, which are the exact things which kill the LX in LFS
Just look how easy it is for those guys to control the cars, and recover slides. I never feel safe sliding the LXs unfortunately Mind you, they are most likely much better drivers for a start
Maybe its just my driving style, but I find that I just cannot be in the least bit wreckless with the LXs or they bite your head off. I have to drive ultra smooth on the perfect lines to get anywhere near a reasonable time.
Is there anything missing from the LX modelling? i.e. suspension model incomplete? Or is it just the overall physics update we are waiting for? Ive never been quite sure.
