TBH, unless you are racing with people you know, i think it is presumptious to think that other racers will race clean.
by that i dont mean blatant wrecking, but their inability to be aware of who is around them and to be able to make clean and appropriate passes.
alot of racers can be fast, but i think the mark of a real racer is to be clean and fast! i try to be both
its a shame that you get proper nobs that purposely drive dangerously on S2 servers, but i can only say keep going and lookout for the safer/fairer servers. there are quite a few.
also, if you stick to racing with a crowd that know you then they are more likely to back up your ban claims.
as for the psssssssssst noise, im sure all noises in LFS will imrpove when the sounds engine becomes the next focus of the devs attention. meanwhile i think you just have to settle for 3rd party replacement sounds clips.
Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 1
Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 2
STAR WARS: Xwing & Tie Fighter (originals)
Warcraft 2
Doom 1
Doom 2
Quake 2 (my first real 3D shooter, i missed Q1 due to my hardware)
Need for Speed: 2-SE, 3-Hot Pursuit, 4-Road Challenge, 5-Porsche
System Shock 2 (had to put it in there because i thought it was so good at the time although i had to do some digging in this thread to remember it! ending was dissapointing for me as it only took 1 attempt  )
Half-Life
Live for Speed
These are the games that have stood out for me over my gaming years, and given me the most enjoyment and longevity.
i dont expect FPS games to last me long, im not saying they arent good or worth it, but it generally takes me only 2 weeks to complete any FPS game.
obviously if i played a FPS online, it might have a longer life, but i dont. it is far too mainstream for most normal folks to jump in and go without getting absolutely pasted.
i have always been a driving game fan, since Geoff Crammonds GP1. i started searching for a new driving game shortly after i found out EA were cutting support for NFS: Porsche 2000 which i used to play online. LFS filled that void.......and them some!
LFS totally blew away previous racing games, it didnt really have any silly arcade exploits you could cheat with like wall riding. i know there are bugs, but these are minor and temporary.
great post ferret, i think you summed up beautifully what most racers on here think, and what we feel like saying to those who continually moan or grip.
this thread, along with tim stelton's (on RSC) i think should be stickies!
getting to know a team is the best way you can get in. thats what i did :P
they couldnt get rid off me, so i had to join!
just hang around with whatever group you feel comfortable/competitive with. this way your races will be fun and close.
bear in minds that some teams may be elitist, but this would be fairly obvious as they will be very competitive and therefore have every right only to accpet compeitive drivers.
other teams wont care about your speed, if they like you then im sure they would let you join in.
its kinda like if you want to join a racing team, or a racing club.
also bear in mind, some teams might be pretty damn busy already, so probably wont be accepting new drivers.
anyway, have fun racing. hope you find the right bunch for what you want to do.
i played the demo, and for a console simulation/racer i would say its about the best you can get.
it was suitably difficult with the standard controller, but im sure it will be more immersive with the wheel. just make sure and turn all the aids off. i couldnt brake right with the xbox controller!
agreed!
"gimmie gimmie gimmie, we want more nya nya nya"........stfu! patience brats!
we dont need scawen reality tv........"today scawen picked his nose................then ate it"
"tomorrw scawen will figure out the meaning of life"
"tune in next time when eric will add a panel to the UF1 bumper."
i know LFS gets blown away in the bigger picture. but whats the point in comparing it to Quake3.....
i think it would be cool to see a comparison of stats for ONLINE PC RACING SIMULATORS.
even if it isnt top, but is somewhere near comptetitive then i think that goes to show that the methods and development practices used by the devs are highly effective.
sure it might not sell as many copies as GTR (yet), but for what LFS aims at (online racing) it sounds as though it is right on track.
anyway, like i said, stats would be ace to confirm that...if possible?
