I just don't get it...why do so many mouse drivers think they are restricted to digital throttle and brake?!? You can put the throttle and brake on the Y-axis of the mouse and steering on the x-axis! It is an incredible advantage over the digital input. I have mine setup that way, with shifting, clutch, horn, ect on the keyboard. It actually takes very little time to get used to. My hotlaps aren't that far off from some WR's, and benchmark times are easily reachable. But if you take a look at my hotlaps you might notice it says I use a wheel. That's where one problem comes in. You have to select the wheel option to assign the extra axis to the mouse. I really wish this little part would get fixed in a patch :-)
The mouse can already control throttle and steering smoothly without using the buttons. Throttle/brake on Y-axis, steering on X-axis. The center of the screen is the neutral zone(no brake, no throttle, tires straight) above the center the throttle starts getting applied, below the center the brakes get applied, and such with the steering right and left that you already know about. Much better than the sudden on/off of a button.
Turbo Dad, I just upgraded a few months ago from an Nvidia geforce mx 440. I see people are suggesting the x800gto, and that is exactly the card I upgraded to. It is definitely amazing bang for the buck! Unfortunately I see your PSU is 220W, which is the same as my old one. The x800gto and I think a lot of newer cards require hooking up to the PSU and require atleast 300W. I had to also upgrade my PSU, so you might have to go that route too.
I bought a 500W PSU, x800gto, and 1gig of ram and it boosted the FPS from (everything off/low detail) 25-30 FPS to (everything on, high detail) 170-180 FPS.
Bingo! It brings in some skill and calculation. You would initially need to do some runs to figure out what your ET would be(this could be done offline). Then lets say you take out the slowest car LFS has and you run 17.919 and you run this consistently. You would set your ET as close to that time as possible, but it has to be less, so just say 17.8 to be safe. If you run faster than your ET then you 'breakout' and are disqualified for that run, kinda like redlighting. This brings in the reaction time too. A little example:
::Slow car::
ET: 18 s
Race starts
Reaction Time: .689 s
Race ends
Time: 17.89 s
Total: 18.579 s (adds in the reaction time to 17.89)
So you ran .579 s slower than your ET.
::Faster car::
ET: 10 s
Race stars
Reaction Time: .599 s
Race ends
Time 9.99 s
Total: 10.589
So you ran .589 slower than you ET
In the above example the slower car wins because he was .579 s off his ET while the faster car was .589 off his ET, both without breaking out.
With bracket racing, a slow car can run up against a fast car and still win even though the fast car passed the finish line first. The winner is the one who gets closest to their ET without breaking out.
The option for bracket racing should be added to, instead of just heads up drags all the time.
All the above ideas sound great too. I haven't done much drag racing in S2 but it was fun for a little while in S1. These ideas would make it TONS better.
I haven't viewed your video(i'm on dialup :-( ) but I'm assuming you're talking about the FXO GTR at Blackwood? I've been hotlapping around BL and the curbs flip me over many times. It's annoying and not very realistic, but it's not too hard to avoid it from happening. Just don't turn too sharp while cutting the corners short.
Well you can download the replays and watch them, which is certainly helpful as you can see where the good lines are and such. If your idea was able to be done, it would have to be against a ghost car to cut out any drafting, and plus having to pass an actual car and take a different line would slow your time anyways. I just watch the WR replays a few times to study the lines and braking points, write down the split times, and then take off on my own hotlapping.
Looked like he purposely did it to me. It initially looked okay, the front-right tire lockup seemed odd. But then he could have made the turn, but he went straight to the wall instead. Just goofy. Guess he would rather make himself look bad than start second on the grid. Is pole position really THAT important to do something lame like that and make yourself look like an ass?
Near the bottom of each page here at the forums it states the time for your time zone. For instance for my time zone(central time zone in USA) it says "GMT -5. The time is now 20:28." So add 5 hours to 20:28 and you have GMT. But I guess something like a clock to the homepage would be more handy.
Dunno if this counts for much but there's a spot at the oval that you can sit at and press the reset button, and you're vehicle will be reset on top of the fence nearby. It only happened by accident one time when I crashed, so I dunno how often it can be recreated.
I was just thinking about this the other night during some races. With everyone's messages covering up the majority of the lights, it was hard to tell when it was lighting up or not. A move to the top-middle of the screen would be good. :-)
