Quote from NotAnIllusion :Does a certain angle cause less/more bump steer or are there other reasons or none at all?

I don't think there's bump steer in LFS at all Hopefully more knowledgeable ppl will chime in and enlighten us.

Quote from JasonJ :Have you ever coded 3D applications before? Object collision is a bitch, if it was an easy fix as you say, it would have been fixed already, but I don't think it is such an easy thing to fix.

So what you're suggesting is that video we've all seen is a fake?

Quote from Woz :This patch cycle has just been so very strange in nature!

Yep but I think LFS development itself (sim model changes, new features, etc) is only part of the problem, and the other part (probably more important) is Scawen's attitude towards LFS - this has changed and IMO is pretty much clear from following the forum, reading old threads, checking old news etc.

TBH I hope we get a new patch with truly limited setups before Q3 is over to liven up things a little

Quote from Bean0 :The rotating brake discs got me thinking.
They can't be purely to look nice on zoomed slowmo vids.

The best reason I could think of is that they can now have some sort of heating/cooling calculations applied.

Good thinking

Quote from BigTime :if they want to catch up with iRacing.

Even if they wanted, funnily enough the only part of iRacing which has been expanding steadily is content. One year after going public they still have no transmission simulation to speak of

I think currently with InSim you can only check some select params out of the whole setup.

Well it's not like the G25 cannot be improved. The latest Fanatec wheel is quieter, has stronger feedback, adjustable/ergonomic pedals with a load cell on the brake.

Quote from MadCat360 :Forget the LX8, lets get an Ariel Atom 500 V8.

You'll have it as soon as the ariel guys crawl up to Scawen's door and kindly offer to pay to have it included

Actually there had been some speculation early this year about the electronic systems of the VWS requiring an update in tyre physics to behave realistically. The guy who said this was german as well, can't remember his name off ATM.

That's what I meant, sorry for cutting some corners.

BTw regarding your remark, I think the consensus is in LFS there's a positive tendency to use too low pressures vs RL.

When you got enough power you don't lose too much top speed and you gain a lot of grip in corners, the XRG is a good example of this IMO.

Quote from Keling :Is there any hardware limitation stopping wheel manufacturers from producing wheels higher than 900d ?

More likely there's hardly anything to gain for manufacturers from offering more lock. I have this feeling the general simming public isn't making much use of 900° or even 720° FWIW.

Even if Logitech had any competitors to speak of (Thrustmaster is content of selling 270° wheels and Fanatec is still too small), there would be little point in starting a 'lock war'.

BTW 900° wheels have been around for some time and only recently we've seen an affordable wheel that is also decently quick (I'm talking about the DFGT). If in the future Logitech releases quicker wheels then they may also start thinking of bumping lock a bit.

All in all I think for the time being 900° is not a bad compromise.

This wheel got a lot of potential but as you pointed out the troubles with drivers, firmwares and the flimsy clamps are non negligible issues. Availability seems to be another one.

Now gamers tend to be savvy with computers so I don't think plug'n'play ability is a showstopper, but most people don't have enough space for a full fledged cockpit to screw the thing down. It's already annoying enough when the G25 comes off the desk in the middle of a race and this wheel seems much worse than that.

All in all the price point is not bad especially when taking into considerations the pedals seem more ergonomic than the G25's, are adjustabile, and last but not least they've got a load cell on the brake.

Quote from Furryappleseed :Nothing about being against the option limits anything that one can do. It just doesn't offer the convenience.

Whining, that is on both sides of this argument. From what I can tell, a lot of the feeling on the against side is that those who are for have a bit of an attitude that they are better than others.....which your gamepad comment kinda shows.

LOL! Nice try!

But you're out of luck. Strawmanning the wrong guy You see I've raced with a gamepad for quite some time myself!

The more you people endlessly whine against this option, the more is clear it is YOU that want to limit the usage that other people may want to make of LFS.

First it was "burn the cruiser" then "burn the drifter" and now what?

Burn the simracer that want to use a clutch and shifter?

Call it 'hardcore' so you can marginalize the concept and write it off as some silly extravaganza ?

And this is all for what? Because you fear tomorrow you won't be able to race in chase view with your gamepad and still go for the WR

Quote from jasonmatthews : Maybe I am being pedantic, but I simply don't feel that what is going on, and what I am learning to play the game, would translate to real life....

May be, as what you learn in LFS doesn't necessarily or directly translate to RL anyway. E.g. going at 150 km/h over the curbs in FE?

Interesting tidbit Unfortunately the Fiesta is 2009 car (or maybe luckily as I would find quite annoying to have the car bugger me with such a show every time I got low on fuel).

Many road cars in LFS are a bit older than that. In that period it was still common not to include things (including lights) that are regarded common as of now - some cheap models didn't even have an e-brake light, and some brands simply insisted on not including a reserve light until much later.

An audio alert would be quite annoying in pickup racing anyway, whenever you load so little fuel that you would start off the race already in reserve.

E.g. the XFG on the classic 5 lapper on BL1, would take 6-7% of its 45L tank, for a grand total of 2.7L.

Yeah we used to have vector editors in my days as well what I was really asking about the array of tools that are made available for editing skins. Paint.net needs some plugins to really shine but has a gentle learning curve and is powerful enough.

Paintshop or the Gimp are powerhouses, I just want some program to make decently looking skins without having to go through multi-page tutorials just for the simplest step the time and effort needed is in another league!

Guess I'll just have to try it and see for myself

Is Inkscape significantly better than Paint.net?

It's been some time since I last used it and I was a bit underwhelmed TBH.
