If you associate LFS.exe with the .set extension, it should be able to put the file in the correct place for you automagically.

Open the folder where you have downloaded the .set file, then right-click on the icon and click on "Properties"

On the first tab you'll find a bit going by "Opens with" followed by a Change button. Click on that button and then select Live for Speed.

If you're missing the LFS entry, then click on Browse and go to whatever directory you've installed LFS in, e.g. c:\program files\LFS\lfs.exe

Quote from G!NhO :its the input device they have, it does not say "what do you use for fast online racing" but "what devices do you have"

Really? Then I ought to be experiencing a man-in-the-middle attack on LFSforum

As far as I can tell, S3 is supposed to cost 12£, so I would be a little "" if more was asked. In the end I guess it all depends on what's going to be in it.

The poll outcome looks quite suspect to me. Manual clutch + shifter?? Come on...

Whenever I look at hotlaps or spectate people online, I see sequential, sequential and some more sequential. I guess this amazing crowd of manual users are only such when they're cruising?

Likely for the same reason test patches can't upload hotlaps.

Last test patch is Z10 anyway.

I'm with Pringles on this one - I do not like the setup repositories so much, IMO they are part of the problem, namely the hotlap mindset.

Quote from Bob Smith :Setupgrip at least has categories for easy to race sets

There's only one set in it, so I guess there's not a true need of easy, stable, reasonably quick and realistic sets

Actually I did take my own timings from the moment I dumped the clutch, but I guess if you're really consistent on your take-offs, that wouldn't be a problem.

You can't really draw comparisons between LFS in Auto-mode and RL simply because a lot more work is required to operate a manual through servos than in LFS, and there are several ways to tackle the problem.

IMO we should focus more on the difference between gated shifters in seq mode, since it is the most widely used setting. In seq mode there's the benefit of never having to face a misshift, so it would make sense to slow it down a little.

However, I have little hope of this being fixed, as the button clutch cheat would need to be sorted out first.

@ Bob

After the Road-going set pack, are you thinking about an upgrade to this pack as well?

I think the LFS version is stored somewhere in the layout file, so you can load a LYTe layout in LFS (because it's like imported from an older LFS version), but you can't go the other way round.

Kinda sucks, if you ask me.

Quote from blackbird04217 :This won't happen because the engine only support 1 track environment being loaded to a time.

Correct, but the additional roads would be connected in a new layout (BL4?). As some of the other environments have a lot of (not-so-different) configurations, I see no evil in adding a couple of new tarmac courses (BL4 and BL4R) to the Blackwood environment

Sequential might have an edge over manual, but the auto feels slower to me. I made an informal, one-off test with the XFG on the drag strip and I was around 0.15-.20 s faster with manual.

Quote from durbster :What's equally convincing is that there's a lot of money to be made from this new industry so I think you're right to be wary of the motives.

Yeah! Luckily for us the Competitive Enterprise Institute has set out to restore truth through this amazing commercial

CEI = Exxon, Mobil, Ford, General Motors, Pfizer

And some of those same companies are going to get money from the US government to avoid going belly up - isn't that plain brilliant?

TBH I don't understand some of the harsh tones, it doesn't matter how good you may be, if you behave like a caveman

Back on topic, this video feels a bit rushed to me, not unlike the one that preceded it, in particular the commentary sounds like it could use more rehearsing.

If you're aiming at assembling a showcase of LFS tracks, you don't need to go in-depth with your analysis, but calling a series "LFS insight" could certainly set some high expectations on the viewer's part

Quote from bbman :Server admins will not bother setting rules, just take a look at all the unused weather options - it's not convenient...

This issue can be sidestepped altogether with a clever default configuration for the server. E.g. random weather upon every start/restart/track change, which is what CTRA already does IIRC but using InSim instead. Shouldn't be too hard to have it done natively, though. Of course then a new option would be needed, to enforce a specific weather.

The same could apply to spec racing. E.g. add set support to LFSworld, so the spec classes can be centrally managed. Upload some sensible defaults to it, and have the server default to the preloaded spec class.

Quote from geeman1 :Americans should now stop complaining too and get their LFS for ~34$

They will still complain on the basis that the exchange rate wasn't so favorable at the time. Speaking of which, I want my tenner back, I payed as much as 34 € only 6 months ago!!

Quote from bbman :What feedback are you speaking of? I've never felt any feedback apart from normal resistance...

I can testify some Opel/GM cars have a sort of spongy feeling to the brake pedal, though it affected mostly older models (15+ yo), newer ones are better.

I can't honestly say this ever made any difference to braking though

Quote from MAGGOT :Not only that, but it will create devastating environmental issues in other places, too.

On any given plant, you can use technologies which are too heavy, complicated or expensive to be applied on a passenger car.

Quote from J.B. :So he only got 55 Miles out of a full charge while thrashing it around a track all day? I've never heard them mention any MPG values during their usual track test

and anyway, the Tesla test is utterly boring which, considering what Top Gear basically sums up to, is like saying it's completely worthless (save for the power lap)

TBH given the chance to trust Jeremy Clarkson and his gang, or the PR gal of Tesla, I'd say 'none of the above'

Quote from breadfan :I've recently had this idea. Would anybody be willing to pay a small monthly amount (2 GPB for example) for a high quality server? With that I mean:

If this was set up with different racing styles for each different server, a monthly payment to get access to the HQ Serv System and 2 or 3 basic servers, and finally a token for each of the advanced server...

voilà you would have created iLiveForSpeed

The clutch seems to have a bit of travel before reaching the bite point as I would expect from a road car, in fact when he actually uses the clutch, the foot moves on to the pedal and the clutch is depressed just a little, before he actually gives the kick.

OTOH when he shifts without the clutch the left foot is kept on the rest, doesn't move at all then he can't be possibly feathering it, I would rather think he's revmatching but around 0:32 you can clearly see that his right foot doesn't back off one bit, he's flat out - like I would expect to see on a sequential with ignition cut.

Then again when he shifts using the clutch but without lifting (second shift from the start), you can clearly hear the engine isn't shooting up like you would expect in a car with a manual shifter.

But if the car had ignition cut, that would work only the driver was using the shift stick... or not?

Quote from BlueFlame :You also corrected me saying the LX4 is a 1.4. Well the website says 1.3 http://www.lfs.net/?page=contents&car=lx4

I stand corrected Since the issue with displacement is resolved, I guess the main difference between the LX4 and the Megabusa would be the gearbox.

Quote from thgombeer :for me, the XR GT and the turbo are more Porsches 924 and 924 S or 944 then a Mitsubishi Starion GX

IMO the styling on the XR* leaves little doubts: it's more linear rather than rounded as in the Porsche, and this clearly shows in the rear end.

The doors are completely different, too.

Since we are talking about this, can anybody explain the shifting technique? I'm pretty much confused by it: sometimes he depresses the clutch (while keeping the throttle down), sometimes he doesn't, sometimes he lifts before changing :Eyecrazy:

Quote from oqvist :The CST pedals will last a lifetime or two so if you are dead serious with your simracing and plan on doing this for 20 years or something it´s not that bad of an investment having the best pedals available and not having to shell out 100$ or something every two years or so.

At 100$ every 2 years and considering the time value of money, it would be actually better to keep upgrading your pedals

Quote from BlueFlame :There are 2.0L flat 4 engines used in Subaru's to date, previously there was also a 1.8L flat 4 in the Impreza Mk1.

Exactly my point, since they never manufactured a 1.9L flat 4, they cannot step in and say, "hey that's my engine" - not that the Impreza looked anything like the FXO, but since the side is strikingly similar to that of the Astra Coupe, I guess they wanted to play it safe.
