This is clunky at best! and keep in mind we're in 2009 and even free games have had perfectly working server browsers for quite some time now.
It makes no sense to question his dedication to simracing... and if he has little time for it, it's obvious he doesn't want to waste half of it copying and pasting around.
During races I sometimes switch the overlay off but in some situations it can be hard to tell the drivers I'm lapping from the ones who are ahead of me. It'd be nice to have a sort of reduced overlay mode.
Not necessarily, if your SO just calls in to tell she'll be late, it's ok. Takes little time and does not require any hard thinking or focusing my attention away from the road: an SMS would be worse.
OTOH what if, as a passenger, she suddenly decides to announce she's pregnant? It's hard to make generalizations
Hear the voice of wisdom You can stop considering altogether.
As for learning the pedals... the only thing you can learn in a sim is clutch left, brake center, gas right Except for that, the clutch doesn't work anywhere like a real one and for a number of reasons I find more difficult to carry out a smooth take off in LFS than in any road car I've ever driven IRL. The brake pedal on most wheels bears no resemblance to the real thing.
You won't be able to learn the smoothness which comes more or less natural when you're behind the wheel of a real car, e.g. in LFS you can dump the clutch or stomp on the gas/brakes without any ill effects. Do the same IRL and your passengers will throw up whatever they ate last christmas in no time.
And I'm far from having covered all the differences that makes it basically useless
Just for the record, the new Fanatec wheel has a rumble effect on the brake pedal to simulate ABS action. I don't think that is supported in LFS though.
Might be worth mentioning there's no need to take apart the pedal base if one would still want to have warranty. The base already comes with holes for screwing it down, IIRC.
If I was to say that I know very little about the nKp community that would be a huge overstatement, my educated guess is you're interpolating a bit too much
I assume you have great trust in people having a short memory there are sure good things in nKp but as a sim is far less complete than LFS or iRacing are. Buying it is like investing on the promise of it becoming better - and when one has been burnt (or others have), certainly one can't complain about the lack of warnings.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if a good part of the thousand new guys on nKp, were actually new drivers who never heard of nKp or simracing before.
LFS might be plodding along with its slow release cycle, but at least it has a decent track record. Kunos OTOH... let's just say that rebuilding one's reputation can be harder than to make a new image from scratch
I'm certainly going to try 1.0.3 - 1.0.2 worked well on my machine and despite some oddities and the interface (which is frankly nothing less than junk), I liked the FFB. No hurry to rush out and get it though.
That gave me a bad feeling Let's just hope you're right - more competition should benefit us all.
Glad to hear that, 1.0.4 won't be out before a couple years anyway
Sorry couldn't resist But seriously, I was somewhat surprised to see so many people getting a new license - was it me, I'd wait to see at least another 2-3 patches before buying kunos' New Deal. 1.0.3 must really be awesome
Understandable, though one wishing to contribute further to the economical welfare of the developers, has some choices besides the obvious additional licenses: there's credit to be used for high res skins, SMS notifications, etc and also the merchandise sold at LFSShop.
Quite right, go slower and you won't be crashing at every corner. I know it's not as easy as it may seem, especially because the feeling of speed is wrong most often than not.
Using a wheel helps a lot, just in case you're using anything else.
Fair enough, though I have a feeling there are a number of underutilized G25s out there. Which if you think of it, it's quite a waste.
I would expect people to play it to the max of their equipment choices, just as much as you would expect anyone to use the best graphics settings their computer let them run with.
I used sequential mode when I was on the pad, now it would feel meaningless to me to use anything different from what the car has.
It's a simulator after all, and if I wanted to play something with cars in it, that requires skill and no wheel whatsoever - I would go back to TrackMania. That's a game and bears no resemblance to reality, it's all about mastering it and having fun in the meanwhile.
As for willing to win, it's a bit like those people who buy soccer management games and then want to play no other but the top teams, because easy = fun. It's just beyond me
