There are only a couple problems you can run into, one I've already said, the other is if the PSU has 'separate 12V rails' with overcurrent protection.
IF the latter is true, you could have the system shut down for too high a draw on a single rail. That happens not because rails are really separated, but rather on many PSUs the overcurrent protection is applied to every single rail (=branch of the main +12V line), as there's some kind of rule dictating that.
If the PSU puts out enough juice on the +12V line (i.e. 550W is not the peak ratio as it is often advertised for cheap PSUs) you could just buy or have made a Y-cable. E.g.
Just look at the size of Bob Smith's Advanced Setup Guide, the help balloons would take over the entire screen and yet they wouldn't cover all that you need to know
Handbrakes are analog controllers, so LFS would always be able to tell whether the user has one or is relying on a button press, and it could behave in the most appropriate way.
For some people having something and not enjoying a wide display of it to those who can't, is like not having anything at all in the first place, and I'm not talking about wearing something or driving something else, but making sure it does not go unnoticed.
That is bragging too, even though it is not posting "oh look how well provided for I am", it is a very unsubtle way to say the same. Although I have no idea who the OP is, I'm sure if you took a look at the OT section you'd see quite a number of posts where people discuss what their daddies just got, which obviously equates to saying that person's family hasn't been enduring economic hardships.
That said money, as almost anything else, is a matter of perspective, and something that hits my eye as a sign of a rich person, may appear to you as the minimum standard or even below it.
Hell if news is anything to believe to, some people in the US are feeling severely damaged by the economic crisis, having their wages capped at 500k$ means they can't support their lifestyle anymore
Yep they're avoidable. As in 'avoid reading them'.
About the VWS, the mods/devs decide what is allowed and what is not. If they don't lock or moderate it means they are OK and it's up to you to skip em.
Regarding some people being richer than you or me, and bragging about it: I'm afraid this is quite common. It's not an LFSforum thing, I see it everyday both IRL and on TV. TBH I always had.
If you've become hypersensitive about the forum, I guess it's time to take a little break from it.
Most useless and whiney parts in this thread are the contributions of the bash & STFU crew.
Those people have nothing meaningful to say, but they go great lengths into stating them and telling others they should not discuss whatever is they want to discuss.
As long as long as the thread is on topic and within the rules, there is no right whatsoever to tell anybody to shut up, and I'm surprised some of those people haven't already got warnings from the mods and more.
And for those of you who are sick of those threads... Don't read them! Simple as that. You're not into any obligation to read them anyway, and we hold any more interest in your being sick than you have for these threads.
Kaynd is quite spot on, IIRC TechReport has an article comparing 1 GB vs 512 MB cards and the conclusion was the difference, when there's one, is negligible.
I would take ATI into consideration too, their recent production is quite interesting.
If you use or leave on your LFS PC a number of hours a day, I would take into consideration power consumption. IIRC the 3870/3850 have the most interesting performance/power consumption profile in the market - while the newer 4850/4870 used to have a software problem that prevented the card from truly entering low power mode when not in Full 3D use. This may have been fixed in the meanwhile, I can't really tell without googling.
Also keep in mind power consumption is the main reason for a card to be quiet or noisy, with the cooler behind only the second. Some cards IMO are simply unbearable but then it depends on your ambient noise baseline figure (including the rest of the PC of course), tolerance to noise and usage profile.
E.g. if you only turn on the PC to play LFS and then you pump up the volume or wear headphones, the noise emission of the card becomes irrelevant.
That said you can have cards that draw little power but have nasty fans with an ugly noise profile (=hurts nerves) or simply noisy.
Since you're mentioning the effect of tyre pressures on balancing, how is that supposed to work?
When I was working on my XRG set, keeping constant the absolute difference was more neutral than working with a fixed ratio between front and rear, but I still had the feeling it affected the balance somewhat.
If you change your mind, it's quite easy to find second hand GPUs for little money. Even old cards (e.g. 3 yo) work pretty good with LFS if they originally were mid-range to high-end models.
Airio would spectate players with reason bad tyres (Road_Normal), despite having set ProhibitedTyres=None both in the global and the track section of Airio.cfg.tc.txt.
After repeatedly editing the config files, grepping them, !rld-ing, !aini-tializing etc, I found out Airio was picking up the ProhibitedTyres directive from the following track in the configuration file (i.e. took it from BL2 and applied to BL1!)
After commenting the line from that track, !rld-ed the config, it started to work as expected. The configuration file had little modifications from the example included in the tracker package, so I'm not attaching it. But in case you need it let me know.
The 3200+ is certainly not the latest and greatest in hardware but it can run LFS with a lot of AIs.
The problem here IMO is the crappy integrated graphics.
PS: the 3200+ can be likely overclocked at least 15% with no overvolting (even more if it's a Venice), at that speed it can race 19 AIs at acceptable frame rates... as long as you have a half-decent GPU.
Me too. But I'm used to be slow anyway so it's no issue
I have nothing against FWD either, and I've been a big fan of the Scirocco in LFS, and as I stated some months ago, IMO it will better (not necessarily faster) than the FXO.
I'm sure you got it first time, but that bit was supposed to poke some fun at VW fans It's good to know I'm not the only one who likes the VWS, anyway - I'm sure once it is released we'll hear more people liking it.
