With programs they call it phoning home you know and basically only evil corporation as MS and Apple do that without asking for permission. If I was Scawen I wouldn't want to be put on the same level as those two

TBH I'd just collect information for each and every user regardless of the licensing status.

Quote from NSX_FReeDoM :i dont really notice any significant difference that can make me change my default browser from Firefox to Safari/Opera/Chrome.

I do notice the difference, but Opera has no extension support to speak of and too much integrated crap I don't care a bit about (which I find a little ironic), Safari I won't comment about it, and Chrome at the moment really bugs me up for its tendency to hog huge amounts of VM.

Just a few tabs can take up hundreds of MB of RAM. I could live without a swap file 99% of the time but Chrome can still manage to make the infamous "out of memory" message with just a few tabs open :Eyecrazy:

Then again I subscribed to the developer channel out of curiosity for extensions, so the final release will be hopefully better than that.

Quote from DEVIL 007 :I have different view on this. The time he would spend on this now could bring only benefit. Later when the code would be more complex it would be simply more job to do. What could he save now woudl simply pay him back later.

And you're welcome to having one I agree it would be a good thing in preparation for greater updates to come, but for the time being LFS is quite light.

I'd like to see it raise the bar a bit, some people are really racing with prehistoric machines for which expectations should be cast aside: it's time to stop complaining and move on. And before someone jumps to my throat, let's put this in perspective: my sim computer is basically 4 years old.

Quote from ColeusRattus :Honestly, slapping an Aston Martin front grill on an IQ is just rediculous, plus it really caters only the arrogant side of people: "Look at me, I'm rich enough to sport an Aston Martin and eco friendly enough to leave it in the garage and drive this."

In other words a perfect way to cash in 20 k£ without spending a dime in development costs. Small cars are generally overpriced wrt their bigger sisters, luxury versions are even more so.

Basically over the last few decades mostly any mfr that lacked a presence in the small car segments, has been trying to get into it. There sure is a fashion trend for management but I suppose if done well (think Mini or 500) it works wonders.

Quote from popabawa :That's my blog you're quoting and in no way does it support the assertion that it's "been coming since June 2008".

Sorry about that, I was just googling a bit to back up something that I seemed to recall, prolly just misread 2009 for 2008. What I was sure about is I have been seeing people drooling on this car for a long time

Quote from popabawa : If you don't like iRacing fair enough but don't make things up eh?

I like iRacing as a sim, but there are some things for I won't subscribe to it. I sincerely hope they will get those things sorted out, but for the time being they will just have to do without me

If you want to know what, just read the last two pages of this discussion, everything has been summed up pretty well by people whose nicks won't make you run and scream "iRacing hater"

Quite the contrary, Firefox has all the basic features out of the box, so the unexperienced users don't have to spend time configuring extensions.

Extensions are for those savvy users who want a little more out of their browser.

Quote from Vain : Bottom line: Switching to multi-threading is, in my mind, an extremely difficult job to handle.

It probably is but with Moore's law having been negated, it seems like multicore uPs are not going to go away any time soon.

Then again despite are PCs that would benefit from having both cores used on full grids (mine is probably one of them), but the more Scawen waits, the more this PCs will be outdated, with the number of newer multicores becoming increasingly able to handle LFS single-coredly.

In the end I think with LFS needing developer time in an increasing number of areas, as far as I'd like to have multicore and as much as I'd benefit from it, on a bigger scale it's probably not the most useful way to spend Scawen time.

Finally, we commoners are bound to have absolutely no idea about how Scawen spends his worktime, so all of this is, just as Tristan hinted at, discussing for the pleasure of it.

Finally it's out! It'll be an interesting summer with Chrome adding extension support. But they have to fix that trouble with VM usage.

Quote :Corvette is behind schedule. Release date unknown right now.

Q to all, what is so hard about that car? I've been hearing about it being up-and-coming since at least June 2008! It's becoming the Scirocco of iRacing

Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :Here is a table of real cars, provided the data is accurate.

If indeed it is, in LFS realism would be improved in most road cars by using 900° instead of 720, and adjusting the sets for RWD cars which can go up as far as 36°.

Sure, that LFS players are picking up rFactor, while rFactor players never tried LFS before

Quote from Woz :900 is probably the working best.

Dunno, there's sure space for improvement in the current generation of computer wheels, but my point was merely to point out that 2.5 turns is a bit little for the road cars in LFS. 3.5 would be more like it.

Quote from Woz :To make the wheel turn 900degs required new driver animations as the current animations run to 720 max.

They were completed in time for last year Leipzig GC, so... Anyway, they're now done, so there are no more technical reasons to delay the upgrade. At least two patches are supposed to be released later this year, so with some luck we should be able to find out in 6 months or less

Quote from Woz :Back on to the 900 lock issue. The highest in game lock in LFS for any car is 720, this just too low. Many road cars the TBO are based on have lock up in the 1080 area.

For some I'd say even in the 1300-1500 range not many computer wheels can go that far up, and none of them is exactly cheap.

Quote from Woz :I did manage to get an answer from Scawen a while back on it and the change requires driver animation changes and will make replays incompatible etc so not sure when it will make it in.

He could have made that change along with the interiors/models upgrade which affected replays nonetheless. Since there was no change I assume it's not very high in the list of the priorities or there's some other reason that made him change his mind about making 900° available on those cars.

Quote from Ripley :If it is on PRO and you click "add AI driver", that AI will be a PRO. Change the slider to whatever you like and click again on "add AI driver"...

Not meaning to rain on your parade mate, but the AIs will be all of the same level, regardless of what was selected at the time you pressed Add AI There's no such thing as mixed AI skills in LFS, at least for the time being.

Many of us are in the same situation, unfortunately the only solution is to wait for this thing to sort out itself.

@ HVS, that's not really true for recent patches of LFS, that feature has been removed somewhere along the way.

No need to waste power on AIs anymore

Quote from zeugnimod :I actually liked the first one a bit better.

This one is still great (especially the part at the docks or how you call it) but it has too much Hollywood in it, IMO.

+1 but it's still quite nice.

The XFG is too short to be a Punto IMO, going by memory it's 3700+ mm long while the AX/106 Phase 1 are little shy of 3600 mm. There aren't many cars of that era that are as short.

That's probably because the AX/106 platform is a late 80s design, intended to be extremely light (in the first few years even the 106 had troubles with the windscreen cracking because it was too thin), while the Punto is more in tune with the bigger/heavier/more comfortable/safer tendency that started in the early 90s.

Also the length ratio between the cab and the front is quite revealing IMO. Judging by the photos, the Cultus/Swift had a longer bonnet, and while it is true that the 106 Phase 2/Saxo had a longer front too, it still looks not as disproportionate as the Cultus to me.

Then again anyone's free to see whatever car they like the most in the XFG

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :I think it's a bit harsh to judge someone from a single incident.

Not judging you, everybody makes mistakes It's just something I remembered because you were talking about risks you shouldn't really be taking but that you take anyway. In your OP you said it was the short length in a pickup race (where you have to seize every chance) to push you to do so, and I pointed out you made the same mistake on a league race (I don't remember which one)

I think it's more your competitive drive that makes you try something in a way you know already you should have done in another, just like it may be trying to outbrake a competitor and messing it up entirely.

On a sidenote, recently I've been driving on LR Race Center and people are quite well behaved. But maybe that's just because it seems VoiD is always online watching everybody closely and with a loaded rifle at hand no matter what, it works

BTW I seem to recall Victor used to have a Saxo VTS, which was built on the same platform as the Pug 106, which in turn is an evolution of the Citroen AX, so....

Quote from Gentlefoot :If you approach the race on the basis that you are there to provide quality opposition to the other drivers and have some good quality wheel to wheel racing then you can forget about the finishing position.

+1 a good battle is a good battle no matter what position you're battling for, and for a battle to be a good one drivers have to respect each others.

BTW Greybull, last time I remember seeing you racing you went out because of some contact I think, reentered the track without checking the traffic beforehand, and cut across about half the track forcing another guy to swerve trying to avoid you, so he sent another car out. And that was a league race

Le Mans (1971), features Steve McQueen, has some flaws but I liked the existentialist backtaste. It's a bit rough around the edges though definitely worth watching.

Grand Prix (1966) to quote Montezemolo is a bit of a brazilian soap opera but has excellent cinematography (despite what Le Mans fanboys insist on saying I don't think it has aged worse than Le Mans itself, some solutions now look real classic!)

Both movies contain feature footage shot during real races by cars that entered the respective competitions. And they cover two periods that are regarded as golden ages of motorsports, the 24h of Le Mans when the Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512 were the undisputed rulers of the prototypes class, and the '66 season of F1, before downforce and rampant commercialism.

I got my g25 replacement quite recently and TBH if it's any different to my old one, it's because it got worse: the leather is very stiff and not as good looking.

The shifter sounds the same (clickety-click, of course only in H-shifter mode), but the wheel does not, I think that's because the transmission hasn't really been broken in anyway (I just used it once for 10 minutes)

My old one has been bought around mid '08, and was probably manufactured in late '07, I have lost that small envelope but I think it was a Rev 101. The new one appears to be a late '08 model, and still carries Rev 101 label.

If any of you has a G25 that looks or sound significantly different from older ones, please also check the Rev number!
