Quote from 5haz :From experience, I would say that Netkar actually 'feels' closer to real life than both GPL and LFS, its rather rough round the edges, but it really does feel like you're throwing several hundred kilos of racing car round corners, unlike LFS in which the cars feel like they weight less than a bag of sugar, although I understand the devs are hard at work fixing this.

Nicely put, there That is how it feels like in NKP compared to LFS

Quote from BlueFlame :Ok, maybe I exaggerated about the physics, but I don't know, it just doesn't immerse me as much as rfactor, regarding the physics, you can say what you want about rfactor, but download a decent mod with good physics and decent moddelling and sound pack, and you feel like you're there, rfactor is a better game in general BECAUSE of the immersiveness, you really don't care if the physics are bad because you feel like you're there. On the other hand, LFS is probobly less immersive than nkp but LFS is just an all round easier game to play "out of the box."

You're quite right, actually. I agree with you 100%. I absolutely love the HistorX mod for rFactor; it really feels like you're driving those legendary beasts and it gives me such a kick racing those cars closely to the limit with other people... it's something that I've never experienced in LFS. What kills it for me, though, is the lack of online racing to be found for that particular mod.

And you're right about LFS being an alround easier game to play; that's easily its strongest point.

But ehm... yeah... nKP... it's definitely not a bad sim It's a bit more "hardcore" as Hoshimodo put it. Takes a bit of effort to really get into it but can be fun and exciting if you get the right people together on a server. It's definitely still a WIP.

Quote from BlueFlame :Moose, you're a really great guy, but please.... stop supporting NkP like there's still hope because it ruins your rep. It's a bad game, I think maybe I should sell MY account cos the game just..... doesn't even feel that good physically, the people cant race online and the games old interface and even the new one is just stupid.

Laggy, buggy, too hard to get going without relentlessly asking for help (and these questions for help seem like real n00b questions) but the fact is these questions on other games because most games are so easy to use and these questions aren't asked.

That's odd. I find NKP to be leagues ahead of LFS in terms of feel, the physics seem very believable to me and NKP worked for me straight out of the box I had no problem setting it up and I have no problem racing online. Really... click a server in the server list and hit "join". How is that any different from LFS (or any other racing sim)?

As for laggy and buggy, I agree that nkp's netcode is its weakest point, but not so much that it's impossible to race online. I'm currently running in the F1600 series on Race2Play and it's been great fun, even though I did have some sort of "phantom" collision in the last race, caused by someone's bad connection.

The thing about subtitles is that a lot of the time the people writing the subtitles didn't really watch the movie or series so don't really know what's going on. As a result they're translating everything literally, and sometimes you get a completely different meaning because of that.

And yeah, obviously, a lot of subtle jokes that only work in English (or any other language for that matter) will either be lost in translation, or the translators will turn it around a bit so that the joke still works more or less but you'll have a slightly different meaning.

Last week I was watching an episode of Top Gear - an old season from a couple of years ago - and they had translated "heel and toe-ing" as double clutching As a simracer obviously I knew what Jeremy Clarkson meant, but people who don't have a clue about that kind of stuff are taking the subtitles as truth and are thus misinformed.

Thankfully I live in a country where nothing gets dubbed, and everything is subtitled, so I can enjoy all movies and series in their original language.

Jesus, everything you're asking has been answered before. What do you want us to say, really? "Go buy an Xbox360! NOW!!" ? We can't make the decision for you, it's something you should do. And it shouldn't be that hard, either! Plus, google is your friend.

Quote from Kristi :If we are in the hang of S3, what you guys think of the price.. If it will cost 36 pounds(its not that much actually) even less people will buy LFS. Even in the present , not so much people spend 24 pounds for a great simulator, what do you except when it will cost 36 ?

It's no use speculating about the price of S3 at this stage. Besides, it has been discussed many times before. I don't know if there's actually a decrease in the number of licenses being sold, but it could be that that's because LFS really isn't that great a simulator and there are alternatives these days, whereas there weren't any that were in the same class back in the pre-S1 days. Reading through this forum I sometimes get the feeling that a lot of people are living in this "LFS bubble" and actually have no clue as to what other very decent racing sims there are, or have never actually bothered to try them properly. LFS is a good sim and great value for money, but whether or not it's still the best one out there is very debatable.

Also, seeing that GT5P screenshot I think the cockpits in FM3 actually look a lot better and more detailed.

Nathan, not only its door mirror but its uhm... inside (?) mirror looks like shit as well.

I think that car was already in FM2 as well, together with a number of other awesome classic muscle cars. I own it if I'm not mistaken. I should check later.

Quote from aroX123 :Well, you dont need to pay for registering?

The OP means a forum that is free to set up, so that he can make a forum for himself without having to pay anything for it.

Technically there's lots of free messageboards to use, but you'll obviously need a webserver to host it. However, there's lots of free hosts as well so that shouldn't be a problem. However, you'll need to be a bit computer savvy to set one up properly and somehow I don't think the OP qualifies for that

I've actually just started playing FM2 again after all the talk about FM3. I would like to start a new carreer, though, but that doesn't seem to be possible. I suppose I could delete all the gamefiles from the HD and start with a clean slate, but I don't really want to delete my current carreer. I just want to start a new one, but keep my current one

Anyway, playing FM2 again there are some things that bug me that I hope are better in FM3. For example the grids aren't usually very well matched. I've noticed that usually there is 1 or 2 guys in really fast cars and then the rest of the grid is in cars that are significantly slower. That means that if you want to have a chance of winning you have to have a car that can match the fast guy's car, and that means that you're only ever really racing that one guy as the rest of the pack quickly falls waaay behind.

Also, it always seem to be the same AI's that are first (behind you). There doesn't seem to be any variation in it.

And of course the fact that the AI almost never make mistakes and that each and every lap is nearly identical, unless you're in a close fight with him (it?) and they have to change their line/lift/whatever. I guess maybe I'm too used to racing real people that I get annoyed too much by artificial drivers' near perfection. I've never bothered to race online, though

So has anyone tried the speech recognition? I'm using it right now to write this post. It seems to work pretty well, the only problem is that it doesn't seem to work with google chrome [I'm using Internet Explorer now]. Can anyone verify that it works with fire fox?

Quote from arco :There's probably some services it runs that uses some memory too, which doesn't show up in the process list. When I said opening a folder with lots of files in it, I was thinking about AVG's slow realtime scanner. Especially a folder with exe files in it. That's where AVG went downhill after the 7.x versions. Its realtime scanner is just painfully slow now.

I don't know, maybe it depends partly on your system specs or something. Like I said, you wouldn't know it was on this computer. Browsing files works just fine, there's no delays surfing the net,... I don't really have a very high end pc, either. An Intel 2 Dual Core E6600 with 2 GB ram. That's only average, nowadays.

Quote from Dooonster :(...)
it does hog system resurces for a little while then it gives up (...)

That seems to be right. Just now after booting I monitored its processes and avgrsx.exe did use about 30MB of memory (most I've ever seen it on) and a bit of cpu usage. But only for like 30 seconds or so, then it went down to 284K and 0 cpu usage. I guess it does a quick scan of certain files or sectors upon booting.

It's always been like that with antivirus programs, though. Some work for some people while they are absolutely terrible for others For a part it probably depends on how you set it up, too, I think. With some you have to pay attention to disable certain services or processes that you don't really need, which you means you have to be at least somewhat computer savvy, and others have a pretty good default installation.

I'll stick with AVG so long as I'm satisfied with it

Quote from arco :Version 8.5? I think it uses a bit more than that. You have to combine the memory usage from all its processes. And try to browse a folder with lots of files in it, with and without AVG installed.

Yes, version 8.5 and yes, I added up the memory of all its processes, even though those processes actually use shared memory so you souldn't really add them up.

I currently have my LFS skins_y folder open which has some 5.500 files in it. Screenshot attached

EDIT: even I am now beginning to think there's something wrong, or that I've missed processes belonging to AVG because it should use slightly more memory than that

This'll be the first game I'll buy since I bought GTA IV last year (I also got L&D but that was DLC so I don't count that as a proper game). Looking forward to it!

The way I understand it is that you can just follow the dynamic carreer and let the game suggest races and events for you based on your owned cars/your likings etc etc..., but you can also just bring up a list of all events and see which ones you've done and just manually select one you haven't done yet

Quote from Gil07 :I've never gotten it...

Neither have I. I actually never ever get anything from AVG whatsoever. It updates itself quietly in the background and that's it. I've disabled the daily scanning and the e-mail scanning as I don't have a mail client. It does its job and doesn't bother me at all. If it wasn't for the fact that I remember installing it I honestly wouldn't even know it was on the computer

EDIT: currently AVG is using all of 4.5 MB of memory. I'd hardly call that "hogging resources".
