Also, What the hell do you know about what they're doing and how fast they're doing it? They could have made a new track environment, new tire models, fixed the barrier bugs, added more setup control - you have no idea.

You have no idea, either. With the lack of info from the devs, your guess is as good as anyone else's. To be honest, I'm getting as sick of these kinds of posts as I'm sick of the "moan posts". Nobody has any clue whatsoever what's being done or not; and that's the very problem here. Not the fact that the VWS isn't released yet.

I'm not waiting for the VWS to come out, but I am waiting for anything new to come out. And to be honest, the silence from the developers is becoming a tad bit annoying. I don't care if they say that due to unforeseen circumstances the patch will have to be postponed until December 2009, but just let the community know.

There haven't been any posts by Scawen in the test patch forum either, I think. If he'd post there now and again, people would at least know that he's still working on it and progress is being made, no matter how fast or slow. Yeah I know "he's not posting because he's working on the new patch". The problem is people don't believe that anymore, and without anything "tangible" (like a post every once in a while) everything anyone says is just speculation, even the posts that say "he's working on it" and "it'll come when it's done" etc...

And I agree that they never ever ever should announce a new patch again. Ever. Release it when it's done, out of the blue.

Quote from R32 Tuner :i should get my s2 license back because of my good idea o_O
because when i bought s2 paypal took the money back so i said stuff it.
but paypal never gave the money back to me.

So you're saying you payed for an S2 license, but had the license taken away from you, without getting a refund? I would contact Paypal about that and ask what happened (if they didn't already give you notice, which I would expect they did).

Quote from Jakg :Not what you want to hear, but why not grab her drive, put it as a slave in your PC (or if it's SATA just bung it in) and then put them on your PC? Wipe the HDD, put XP on there, then do the same to put the files back on it...

Yeah, I thought about that. Thing is, as long as I don't know what caused this I'm a bit reluctant to put the drive in my pc I don't know a whole lot about virusses (virii?) and what they can and cannot do, but I'm pretty protective when it comes to my computer
Windows password changed by a virus?

Alright, I'm at the end of my wits so I figured I'd ask here.

My girlfriend runs Windows XP Pro on her computer. She always had it set to log her username on without prompting for a password (according to her she never set a password, but left it blank instead). Now last week all of a sudden it prompts for a password, and nothing she enters works; she keeps getting the error message that the password is incorrect.

I used to be able to access her shared files and her printer from my computer through our local network, but that doesn't work anymore either; it asks me for a username and password. It never did that before.

So my guess was it was some kind of virus/trojan that had changed the password(s), locking her out of her pc. I have this old Knoppix disc lying around so I thought if I can boot that and somehow reset or change the windows password from there then I can fix it. I followed this guide, but the chnptw utility can't read the sam file properly, and thus can't change the password. This lead me to believe that the sam file is possibly corrupted. Although if that was the case windows would return an error upon booting, saying that the sam file is missing or corrupt, rather than waiting for you to enter a password and then saying it's incorrect. At least that's what my common sense tells me, I'm not really an IT guru.

I tried replacing the sam file in system32/config with the one from windows/repair, but doing that resulted in windows throwing an error upon booting, like what I described in the previous paragraph. So now it won't even let you type in a password.

I then tried to replace the sam file with one from the "restore points" windows xp creates. Those files are stored in a folder called "System Volume Information" (or something along those lines). The weird thing is that the earliest restore point that is stored on the drive seems to be from the exact time the computer first had that problem. So that doesn't fix it either.

Right now I think my best bet is to just format the drive and reinstall windows. Obviously, though, she doesn't want to lose all the pictures on her drive - some 7 GB worth of 'em. So I'll have to burn those on CD's (doesn't have a DVD burner), and then format and reinstall.

I just thought I'd come here and see if there's someone here who has an idea that I haven't tried yet.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Quote from ColeusRattus :You do know that this sentence is reason enough to call an ambulance on you to prevent a suicide attempt, don't you?

If it was meant jokingly, which I suspect, it's just bad taste, but if it was meant earnestly, I'd advise you to rather get some proffessional help.

"Hello, 911? Yeah, there's this guy who threatens to cut his wrists. Could you send someone over?"

"Okay sir, what's the address?"

"Uhm... his name is The Very End and he lives in Norway... "

It was obviously said in jest. And just because there are people who do cut their wrists doesn't mean that we can't make jokes about it I doubt anyone would take his threat seriously.

Seeing the other driver looking at me usually puts a smile on my face as well. It's also kind of reassuring that he's actually looking around to see where you are, so you don't have to worry about him accidentally turning in on you.

I gotta ask, because I'm not sure if y'all are joking or being serious: do you really get penalized if you're "caught" scratching your hair/face or changing the radio station while driving? I honestly had no idea that the UK was this far along the way to a complete police state I would seriously consider migrating to another country if they'd start harassing people here the same way.

I find myself hoping for the patch to be released today as well, even though I will probably not drive the Scirocco for the coming week at least, as I race almost exclusively on the dMr server and this week's combo is the BF1 @ AS Historic

Still, it would be a nice surprise. And even though I have always agreed with the "the devs work at their own pace and it will come when it's done" philosophy, I have to admit that this patch is becoming a bit "long in the tooth" (or how does that expression go?).

Quote from Not Sure :None of the LFS cars has auto-blip, so you have to do it manually. Heel-toe is not required, but i would like to know if real life racers do it. Or do they just press gas and brake simultaneously without clutch?

Heel & toe is what you do if you have to use the clutch, so yeah, real life race drivers do it if the car requires it. In the Tsunsx vid in Jeffr's post the car doesn't seem to have a clutch, so in that case there is no point in heel & toe'ing; you can just use your left foot to brake while blipping the throttle with your right.

There's plenty of videos on Youtube of real racedrivers heel & toe'ing, just do a search. It'll become much clearer.

Don't be nice, bump etc.. people must be afraid of you and not the other way else you won't make it

Ah, so that's why so many "professional" karters are such pricks in LFS Many a time have I asked someone on a server "you don't happen to be a karter, by any chance?" and received a positive reply, after just observing their behaviour on track for one or two laps. It's quite funny, really, how you can just pick them out

Quote from JeffR :Some race cars use a computer to control throttle and clutch (if needed) during shifts. One example is an XTRAC shifter. Formula 1 race cars use a computerized sequential no lift shifter. In 2002 the Formula 1 trannies were fully automatic, both upshifts and downshifts. I don't know what percentage of these computerized shifters require blips on downshifts.

Computerized sequential shifter (turn down sound, rear end is loud):

What appears to be a non-computerized sequential shifter (driver is lifting and blipping):

Man, the gear whine in that first vid is insane Also, is that BMW in another car class than everybody else? He catches and passes all the other drivers with such great ease you can hardly call it a race.

Quote from SparkyDave :You don't run any of that "points & endless lines of chat spam" systems on the DMR servers do you?

I do enjoy the racing/atmosphere at DMR servers, unfortunatly most DMR members go to bed about 10pm hehe

SD.

Well, as for the points, we just installed Airio on our S2 server so there are points (still not sure if I like that or not ), but no endless lines of chat spam as far as I know

And yeah, you're right, the server usually goes empty at about 10pm GMT Whether they're all off to bed or somewhere else I don't know Peak hours are 7pm - 9.30pm, I'd say.

This week's combo: FZR's @ Kyoto Ring National.

Some of those screenshots look absolutely incredible. Great work, Lynce I've only tested it very very briefly in LFS (about 30 seconds or so) but it looks awesome. This is really gonna add something to LFS.

Thank you for all your time and effort. It's much appreciated, but I'm sure you know that

To clarify: the textures you find in your folder are probably from the CMX viewer, with which you can already view the Scirocco and make skins for it. It's not in the game yet, though, so you can stop searching.

Quote from PMD9409 :Whatever, I'm not going to say your right or wrong, but I'm not going to blame "CrammondWare" as you call it because my pedals/brakes work completely fine (and I don't lock up the brakes 95% of the time).

From what I understand from Mark's posts, that's probably because you have different - and better - pedals than he does.

Quote from G!NhO :Lightning SST is the best option, it has 8 gears and is very tough.

Act labs isnt nearly as good as the SST, but the SST is around 150-180euro and the act labs is ~100euro.

I can't see why you would need 8 gears in an H-shifter, though. I would think that cars that have more than 6 gears usually have a sequential gearbox rather than an H-pattern shifter.

That being said, from what I've read in various posts and forums I think I'd go with the SST as well.
