Quote from Scawen :Yes, there is a limit to the number of physics objects, because physics calculations can cause massive slowdown if there are too many, all checking against each other. So finally it stops adding objects that have been hit, and gives you a warning message. But I'll have a quick look at how the limit is set, if maybe just a few more should be added because of the increased number of cars, maybe there aren't enough slots for other physics objects.

I thought this was a well known "bug" or message - I've encountered it 4-5 times during the last year.

Quote from Tweaker :Why not just keep the map at a light grey color /w a translucent outline? That is what is usually done in design to contrast it against most other backgrounds and keep everything consistent, rather than have it change colors so often. Chase came uses a dark grey map, I can't see that on tracks that have high trees on the side and dark colors. And similar problems arise with other views.

That's actually a pretty good suggestion... So what took you five years to say it

Quote from stevewhite :I know everyone is excited about S3, but are the features a little ambitious for the devs? I mean, it is taking a very long time to get things like damage modeling, sounds, ect, how long is it going to take to get rain, wet tarmac, night racing. I know the devs are amazing at what they do, and deserve to be well respected for all of their hard work, but is the development plans for lfs a little ambitious/unrealistic? I think it is going to take a very long time, to do everything the devs have planned at the current rate of progression.

OK, so lets say the dev team would change their ambition level to normal. We would then get S2 final next week and S3 in half a year with 3 new features. And that's it.

How would that be any better than what we have and will be getting in the future at current form?

LFS is a growing living simulator, a love child of the devs and for us it is in its best form, not its worst. For gods sake, how is an ever-improving simulator a bad thing!?!?!? It's a dream come true !!!!!!! Please think first instead of posting nonsense again.

Quote from Ian.H :OK, that's fine. I'll go with current content, but I want all the bugs ironed out.. no more temporary damage modelling, no more temporary moon launching collision detection, turbo boost modelled correctly, diffs that act like diffs, aero modelled correctly etc etc. These are what make a sim, right? but also things sadly lacking for years in LFS.

Do we have this? no.. it's not all just about additional content.. the above are flaws / bugs. These aren't optional (or shouldn't be ).

Regards,

Ian

You have no clue, do you... What bugs? When have you ever seen a simulation that is totally perfect!?!? All these so called bugs are just features that are lacking. Just like all other sims are lacking features. There is no defined criteria for what a sim needs to have. It is reasonable to expect a sim to feel more real than most games. LFS does that - way and beyond. Tell me which games are so much better sims that you need to put LFS down? rFactor? GTR2? Are you kidding me? Which simulation you can go online with and race other than LFS? None! rFactor promised online gameplay and there is 2 racers online! Now that is a disappointment!!!!

To people who want better graphics:

Sure, graphics are nice, I even bought a new PC to speed up my games and see more eye candy. However, games are loved and cherished for the game play they offer, not good graphics. It is the game play the games are played for if you keep on building on that, you can't go wrong. If Scawen kept the graphics up to date, he wouldn't be getting any work done to improve the gameplay.

I see improving gameplay as a long term investment - smth that is there to stay forever. Improving graphics is just for short term gains - in 1 year people will start to complain again why DX11 isn't supported... Sure, LFS needs a graphics overhaul some time, but I'd take physics update any day over a graphics update.

Quote from Belain :Well i dont have an idea if this is just because of W17 but i just noticed a repeatable bug!

whenever ure in the serverlist and join the meeting room, try to close LFS with ALT+F4

it doesnt work, it comes up with: "Uknown Command"

so maybe it gets fixed

confirmed

It is present in 0.5W and also 0.5W17

Quote from Hyperactive :Improvement suggestion:

It would be better if the ai add menu wouldn't resize smaller when you add over 16 AI drivers. It could as well start a bit smaller so all the 20 AIs could fit without resizing. It is annoying because the button moves

Quote from Ian.H :FZ5 and LX6 in particular have actually become quite pleasant to drive and interesting to race

I concur... + RAC has also become usable. The jump in driveability is like when the new tire fizics came out last April.

I don't know what clutch preload is, but I sure do like it.

Quote from KMSpeed :Worm, some more info on the topic...

The forced handicaps from the master server only apply if you go online. They have no effect in the Single player mode unless you volunterely put some handicaps on your own.

Besides that, no car is faster than before. The FXO & XRT are slower from the TBOs with the RB4 untouched and the FZR & XRR are slower from the GTRs with the FXR untouched also.

In short, the classes were balanced by slowering the faster cars not making faster the slow ones. And this only in multiplayer atm, so no need to block hotlaping with the W10 patch.

So no change with the clutch preload system? There must be. Even Scawen said so:

Quote from bhs :I'm not sure if this is an intended change or not but while running single player on FOX/BL1 in W10 I was hitting 148 on the back stretch and still climbing fast when I started to brake. This is a big increase from my previous top speed of 142 or so. Was there a physics change that I missed?

Quote from Scawen :Either you came out the previous corner faster due to your nice new diff or the wind was behind you.

Quote from Scawen :Single player now allows up to 20 ai cars (powerful pc needed)

I can confirm that with my old computer (Sempron 2200+) the race became a slide show with 20 AI selected. With my new comp (after the price drop not very expensive Athlon x2 4800+) 20 AI cars is no problem. I think it might do 28 AI easily in fact.

Quote from George Kuyumji :Awesome Job, alot of improvements Everything working fine and stable here.

I'm happy to see the Weight Handicap making it in, alot of real Racing leagues use that. But the Aerodynamic Handicap is rather useless and unrealistic, making it more complicated than needed IMHO.

I think a Handicap that can be decided by the Server for certain type of cars or drivers is fine without Aero Handicaps.

Aero handicap?

Small map cars more than one lap ahead are a different colour

Dude !! :jawdrop: I can't believe you did both the things I asked for. This is like the fifth thing I've asked for and you did. resent:
Thanks a million

Quote from Scawen :
FIXES :
Incorrect false start penalties while stationary at start
Displayed mass in garage flickered while moving handicap slider
False start penalty was given for an early start in qualifying
Corrected width of split time difference (in live position list)
Wrong "A race is starting" if track changed but no race started
Joining a waiting start grid sometimes produced a false start
Could quickly pit and return to grid to remove a false start
Skins used in race were not stored correctly in MP replays
Admins could not kick or ban using the list of connections
Could be given a pit penalty on a track with no pit lane
MRT would fly about if voluntary added mass was too high

And you also ironed out all the major W9 gremlins in one go :jawdrop:

EDIT:
Quote from Scawen :Don't worry about the colours, they will be user definable (colourblind people need that) and I have not perfected the default colours anyway - it's the last thing I did before release this evening.

Quote from BlackSheep720 :2. Asking for extraneous add-ons in the forum (i.e dedicated drift tracks, body kits) -- All the seasoned veterans are tired of this. LFS is for pure racing, and we don't wanna change that.

I have purposefully never drifted in LFS and I don't care for it. But I would never imagine telling someone which feature request they can post and what not. I don't see how "the seasoned veterans" decide what will be included in the game. Only Scavier decides that.

Quote from KSheppard :Based on this and the other discussions here, anyone want to draft up the LFS RULES OF RACE CONDUCT GUIDE ?

We can then vote on it point by point and once we get a general consensus it can be adopted as ver.1, hosts who are in accordance with the guide can then tag their server name something like: RRC-<hostname>

edit

I'm thinking someone like Becky (cause you need MORE to do :P) or one of the other major leagues who could just modify their existing rule set

Hear-hear!!!!

Quote from Jimmy_Lemon :yes but thats the point. i dont want to eaven them out. because no one uses the other two for ovaling, they just use xrt, and now xrt is slower..

But they would use the other cars if they were evenly matched. Just give it time and it will be done. This test patch is not final.

Quote from RSchumacher :man this patch is absolutely amazing ! 28 racers makes the races much cooler, and I have no fps-loss at all. Great, thanks for the great patch, keep on it.

In single player my FPS drops significantly with additional cars. Luckily, my new system components are arriving next week.

So I'm thinking, wouldn't it be better to allow also 28 racers in Single player. So if your system doesn't cut it, you use less AI cars. But for those of us who have just spent quite a lot of money to get a better system we should also be able to utilize it at maximum (please make more AI cars available in Single player).

Quote from Widdowmaker :1) With space reset enabled - it resets damage (changes tyres for fresh and clear all damage)- it should not do this - as you should have to pit to repair damage

Is this in single player? Cos in single player its always been like this. In multiplayer it obviously should not be so.

EDIT: Apparently there is shorter connection from Finland to the UK than from Estonia.

I think for normal servers the auto kick to spectate on too early race start must stay to protect against wreckers. Hopefully they will be kicked faster than they can hit anybody.

I see the "no reset" option isn't here. God, I hope it makes it into the next version. I really like that LFS is becoming more hard core

Quote from downlikerain :Ive been playing the s1 and s2 demo for about 5-6 years now. i havnt really seen a need to get the real game becuse all i really did was drag and sometimes drft but now i want to get it..but the question is should i get s2 or wait until s3 becuse there already on patch w

If you buy S3, you have to buy S1+S2 anyway. If you buy S1+S2 now, you get to play S1+S2 now until S3 comes out. There really is no question whether you should buy S1+S2 right now! If you've been playing for 5-6 years you definately should buy it. I think there is no question. Buy, buy, buy!!!

I would like to have both options, but a pit spotter would be supper. I never race without the kegetys one. However, the developments in the minimap have lately been quite small (dot to arrow, arrow to another arrow, one color to another). So it's not like scawen has gone on a minimap improvement rampage.

Here, I hope we will be discussing improvements to the minimap that are simple (what do I know about programming), yet add a lot of value

Quote from Tweaker :The arrow for the drivers 1 lap down is indeed too hard to see aswell. Nearly invisible in most cases, and NOT safe at all because you won't see if there is traffic on the map when you go to look ahead of time. There were times I glanced at it and couldn't see a car on the map, but there was one right in front of me a ways down the straightaway. It was lapped traffic.

Just my opinion - I don't find the grey markers too difficult to see.

EDIT: I wish we could customize the colors ourselves. I guess it's too much to ask
