Your every day citizens don't have guns though. It's simply unfeasible to have an armed populace and not have an armed police force.

When any random guy can pull a gun out of nowhere, or even openly carry a gun that is more powerful than what the police have, that's a scary situation for the police. One single slip up, let your guard down for a second, and they could wind up dead. And it does happen, where an officer will be shot during a routine traffic stop or something. That's why the US police are forced to take such heavy precautions sometimes.

Still, there is a massive difference between being cautious, and being trigger happy. Should be more punishment for police officers who do abuse their power. They are in a job that requires them to be exceptional, they should be held to that standard, rather than getting off scot-free like they seem to all too often.

My personal score with police and guns is 1:0 in favor of police. They shot a lunatic who pulled out a gun and started threatening people nearby. My mom and sister were forced to lie down on the ground to hide from the nut, the police showed up and shot him in the leg when he wouldn't drop the gun. That, to me, was a very justifiable and well handled use of force.

EDIT: Found a news story about it.

Quote from ACCAkut :thats how you do it. If it weren't for the "hero" that gave the guy the broom the situation could have been over sooner. You can't use your gun on a crowded market, even the pepper spray was a last chance decision. This is how I expect policemen to act.

If they had just shot him for being a petulant dickhead, the whole situation would be over sooner. Kidding. Mostly.

Really, best solution, they would have pulled guns out but not needed any reason to shoot. After the Pepper Spray. Standing on the other end of a barrel is a pretty good motivator to play nice. That would have saved everyone in the market some trouble, and saved the officers from potential harm from having to tackle him.

It's more per game, not more total. Hockey and basketball have more games per season. They are still clearly ahead.

But it's still going up rapidly for soccer. Every year is a new high attendance-wise in MLS. Seattle averaged almost 40,000 per game last year. Vancouver, Portland, Philly, and SKC sold out every game or close to it I believe. SKC just built a new stadium, Houston and San Jose are building them right now. Added a team in Montreal, after two last year.

Brand new TV deal too. And a rash of signings of young talent from Latin America. It's definitely going in the right direction, and quite rapidly.

Whereas basketball, not so much.

Quote from Cornys :I play soccer (2 - 3 games a week), and I'd honestly can say I'm more tired after I play my 6th baseball game in a week than I am my 3rd soccer game. Baseball uses alot more muscles than soccer does is the simple explanation. Baseball you use alot of core and legs as well along with the obvious use of the arms. (soccer leaves the arms relativly un-worked)

People living outside of the United States see our sports as lazy simply because they see us as lazy. It's a pre-conceived opinion that you guys have prior to learning about the sport, and then you can't be told otherwise. It's like trying to convince a bigfoot beleiver that bigfoot isn't real... you just can't do it.

Soccer's a different type of tired. It's all cardio, whereas in baseball you likely get tired from repetition of very specific actions (swinging, throwing etc.). And if you are a pitcher or a catcher, it's waayyy worse.

Yup, nailed it. And it's not just sports.
There are plenty from our country who are just as ignorant back though, it goes both ways. And not everyone elsewhere is ignorant on these things, just a number of them.
Begin flame war.

but could you last 162 baseball games with a game pretty much every day? It's a season long campaign, not individual battles like some other sports.

And you can't say there is no athleticism required to pitch over 90mph? Or hit a home run? Those take a lot of strength. And I wouldn't say the bowling or batting is necessarily more challenging in cricket, why do you think that?

Quote from Dennis93 :It'll be fun, we're sponsored by Hoosier tyres for this event... And they make.... Drag tyres? awesome bro... -.-

Nah, Hoosier is a huge racing tire company, but I think they only operate in America. You'll see more than half the cars there this weekend on Hoosier and some on Goodyear. Maybe a few others, but those are the two major players in US racing tires.

Racing tires is all they do and they've been around forever.

After the Superbowl this year I can say that the German (American) Football League is not that bad (damn, how many 12-men-flags have been thrown!).

That's not normal at all. Don't know why there were so many in that game.

323. That's easily one of the bigger events you'll find. I think June Sprints is the biggest normal-season SCCA event at ~450. The national championship (Runoffs) is ~650.

Group 1 Vintage 21
Group 2 ITB, ITS, IT7, ITR 48
Group 3 ITA, SRF 45
Group 4 FA, FC, FF, FM, S2, CSR, DSR, FV, F500, CF, FS, FB, FE, FST 41
Group 5 SM, SM5 46
Group 6 GT1, GT2, GT3, AS, T1, T2, GTA, SPO, ASR, ITO, STO 44
Group 7 ITC, EP, FP, HP, GTL, T3, SSB, SSC, LEG, SPU, STU, STL 61
Group 8 Camaro Cup 17

Yeah, those are pretty decent grids.
Huge SM field, that's expected I guess. The class has become increasingly popular because it's so cheap and the racing is close. Also, that means the group is populated with racer boys, so they tend to bang eachother a bit too often. Definitely a must watch if you can swing it. The SRFs will be great too, with less banging, more good racing.

Still, I'm shocked Group 4 is all together... that'll be a bit of a clusterfrick. If they didn't have to squeeze the vintage and those Camaro Cup guys in ... It's sorta like mixed class racing with FOX and MRT, and everything in between.

Sorry, I'm rambling to myself because I'm super jealous right now

Yeah, I watch it both NFL and college... though I don't care all that much about it, and I often am multitasking during the games. Live games are fun, especially when hammered. You'll find me much more likely to be discussing the particulars of an MLS or EPL game the next day though.

Zero time for basketball (worst sport ever imo), hockey is Red Wings playoffs only, baseball live games only.

Quote from Rappa Z :Well why do you guys think they would go with that horrid bump on the Ferrari? Do you guys think it is channeling air around the driver, creating downforce, or just an anomaly that they could not fix (perhaps there's something large under the bodywork there)?

I think they are hiding something, and that magically sometime during the test sessions that part will change drastically.

That's a SCCA regional event... will be fun, those are my favorite weekends ever Too bad it's not the Double National though. And yeah, $5 is the usual price, don't know how parking is set up at Sebring though.

Groups are super weird. Who the heck runs FA/ CSR/ DSR with FV on the track too... that's just asking for trouble Might mean they aren't expecting big grid sizes.

but then SRF has their own group, I don't know how they can have so many SRF and Miatas to warrant their own groups, but so few of all the classes in Group 4 to make that a good strategy in any way. Registration closes Tuesday, sometime shortly after that I should be able to find the answers.

Also, that means you get to wander the paddock whenever you feel like. You aren't allowed in certain areas without long pants, but I'm not sure you'll have access to those spots anyways, unless for some reason you're hanging out with Dennis in pit lane. Pretty much everywhere else is fair game.

my only issue with it is it's pretty technical with the huge elevation changes, which may cause the field to spread out too much. But that will also possibly cause carnage when the fast guys try to get through from the back...

The track itself is something unique and awesome, and it's always eventful when NASCAR visits I would guess they'll use that shorter configuration, not the IndyCar one.

Still, wish it was closer to me.

I actually think I quite like the Force India's shape. The rest of it is gorgeous and they handled the step about the best it could be handled looks-wise. And the livery is awesome.

While that doesn't translate into speed, it makes me root for them a little harder

I am assuming you were talking about the tape adding more drag, probably wrong though when I initially read it

I was saying the opening causes more drag

So we are saying the same thing

less conservative? F-duct, those crazy U shaped sidepods... they certainly haven't been conservative aerodynamically. So I guess they must be talking about something mechanical.
