Was thinking more about the performance built ones by 3rd parties rather than the standard engine for the 200bhp.
Thats the name i was looking for! All I knew was it was in a mazda 6
For the mazda duratec I wasnt on about the fancy rs models, (well apart from the zetec'd ST's) but I meant your run of the mill 2.0 duratec in a mondy is the mazda 6 engine. though without the vvt i think. Still, making 200bhp with only a years development cant be too bad
The first duratec in the st focus's was a zetec that was tweaked, but the newer ones in the new focus/mondeo etc is the mazda engine I believe. (hence why a lot of the old skool ford guys put it with the new mx-5 6 speed box to convert to rwd)
Ahh, I thought it was the other way round and the probe 2.5 V6 was the ford one! Well apart from the V6 my comment on duratecs was right Same as a mazda 6 for the 4cyl engines. then volvo engines for the 5cyl & turbos I guess? (bit rusty on this, im used to pinto with cast iron head and block)
FBM and FOX are easy peasy. FO8 takes a bit of work now. on the old patch it was fine. and BF1 has TC so easy too. was the first guy sum 1:00 round blackwood on a full server when it first came out
EDIT: added my westhill hotlap. not very good but its the only formula one I have.
I couldnt use the mouse but found keys fine. And without blowing my own trumpet I wasnt too slow on keys. 2nd in the CRC stock cup with an XRT (only beaten by an FXO driven by no_one) using keys. Running in the top half of the field in any car (including FO8 pre physics change). also most hotlaps are within the benchmark times. Theres an art to it, but it can be done!
Had a weird problem yesterday, was running 5mb line (fastest its been on the free "10mb" upgrade.) then my modem rebooted and went back down to 2meg and the upload speed is worse than before the upgrade!
As long as you get the head work right it should be easy to get that power. I know someone with the 3.0 M3 engine who got 560bhp with a turbo for racing. (at 12psi i think)
Its not even that hard. MY cousin had his UK provisional, asked for an australian version and they said it was good enough for a full license. he hadnt even driven a car :haha:
Came back over here and got it converted from a full oz to full UK license. Job done!
Think thats pretty much right. just need to have a few safety items (and most likely a quick briefing) then IIRC brands hatch is about £100 for an afternoon of running.
Recently converted the capri to fuel injection, should give it 10-20bhp. and SHOULD give better economy at the same time, but something isnt right, high HC count at idle and lumpy running, once thats sorted it should be ok. Also fitted the 4-2-1 manifold. and hopefully fitting a front brake upgrade later in the year (RS turbo/XR4x4 brakes)
Think the head change could also be why it runs hot, probably still air in the system, and the radiator is a bit knackered which doesnt help.
Dont fancy letting me borrow some of the EFi bits? Got some troubles with mine.
And which capri axle is it? (About 4 diffrent ratios, two types, and one LSD)
Another oldtimer reporting for duty sir!! (Played LFS from when S1 H was first released)
You've mentioned the CRC in a lot of your final posts on this discussion fordie, maybe theres a reason behind it. Maybe an ORC is due (Oldtimers racing club) Using a similar system for passwords etc. Rather then a before X year cut-off, maybe a select few on invitation only as starters, then those intrested can be voted in (similar to the latter CRC although I wasnt around in S1 demo CRC times to know if it was the same!)
But I would like something with the old racers and the old LFS spririt to get me racing again, havent touched LFS in 6 months now, and dont feel any real want to either.
Hopefully your holiday will inspire you and all us old LFS-ers to get off our backsides and re-stoke the fires.
Well the car runs so hot its nearly off the scale Ill check the temp sensor in the head though, been told to look at that. Will go to the local breakers yard to try and find a regulator. Hope its sorts itself soon, I wanted more MPG not less
