I hate FPS games on console as a rule..but I make an exception for the Halo series, I played Halo 1 on PC long before I got an Xbox..and would give it the stamp of fail, till I played them the way they were ment to..much more fun on console.

Other FPS's like Quake 4 though..shudder.. PC FTW.

Got to say actually, some of his stuff is pretty good. The youtube linked to is pretty impressive sounding for what it is.

Those silly little speedbumps in the middle of the lane, I always used to keep the best speed I could over them, and laugh at the car behind who would crawl over them. Did get one or two complaints from passengers about the lack of headroom in that 106, though.

Nowadays in my Focus though, if I have passengers in the back and some shopping then I'm the one who has to crawl over them The sound of the exhaust scraping just isn't nice. Although it only seems to do it to ones in Plymouth, nasty things.

Haven't had a chance to watch the last couple of races..then a cracker like this happens, glad I took the afternoon off work Plenty of good driving, and some exciting moments.

Do feel sorry for Sutil though, he did drive a good consistant race, and got taken out by an accident. I don't believe Force India will get anywhere appealing to the marshals, there were plenty of mistakes in that race.

I always find music with lyrics much more memorable.. more of the time I'm listening to music, its for the sake of it, not in the background. That is assuming the lyrics are good and fitting with the rest of the instruments, some of it these days is just trash.

Fact is though, we on here will moan about the physics, and the over-done bloom effects and the like, but we're not the target audience, nor are we the majority. They will no doubt sell a good few copies of this game, its targeted at the masses and not sim-enthusasts, can't really fault them for that. If you want a sim-game for a console, pick up a copy of Forza if you haven't already. If you want an arcade game with realistic hints, the PGR series is fantastic and widely under-estimated IMO.

Quote from avellis :That's pretty innacurate.

Xbox can indeed use a component cable setup and upscale to 720p or 1080i, when in NTSC mode. BUT, its CPU is pretty low and in fact it cannot even cope with 720p content. 1080p is, of course, out of the question.

Some crazy people, I've read, have modified the xbox's cpu so that it can do HighDef.

Don't get me wrong, Xbox is an excellent media centre. Just not for HighDef.

What I said was, XBMC runs natively at HD resolutions without a problem. You are correct in that its an old unit and needs some pretty extreme mods to playback HD content, but that isn't what I said. Its much nicer to read sharp, legible text as opposed to the upscaled-smudge you would otherwise get.

As a sidenote, every Xbox game will run natively at 480p, which is a bit nicer on the eyes than normal telly res (480i). Some games I noticed (Soul Caliber 2 for example) will run natively at 720p.

Quote :I ment on the original xbox, with a modded original xbox you can't go on live with it, search google to see if you can go on live with the original xbox.

I have a small switch panel on the back of my Xbox, one of the functions of it is to revert back to the original firmware, so I can play my games on XBL without an issue. Not really used it much though, most xbox games still did split-screen gaming. But point is, it works flawlessly on live.

Those aren't component - components have a cable for each colour channel, and uses 2 RCA's to carry audio (IIRC, of course). But for the cables you have, your best to bin them and pick up an "RGB" scart cable, which gives a better picture on a normal telly like yours, and gives much better colour definition. Got mine from Gamestation for a tenner ages ago, so prob only a couple of quid now.

Now I remember, the Red Faction games were released on Xbox, they're well worth picking up, good fun in multiplayer after a few to drink too.

Get an Xecuter chip in there and throw a 200GB HD in the thing, I use mine for playing back films (entire DVD collection compressed on computer and put on there), and have all my games copied to the HD as well, saves searching around for discs. I put this setup together inc the console for around £120 a year or two back.

XBMC is a great interface for it, has every function you need, every dashboard will have a built in FTP server so its incredibly simple to setup. Pick up a DVD-remote kit as well, they're only a couple of quid and are much better than a wired gamepad for playing back films. Another reason I like XBMC, I have my Xbox wired up via component cables, and XBMC runs in HD resolutions no problem.

They're brilliant media centres, I have one in my family room as well which is used purely for films. Easy for family to use with the MS Media Centre skin.

Games, the PGR & Burnout series are lots of fun, Halo 1/2 of course & Forza. Crimson Skies is a lot of fun as well.

If yours came with the original style controllers, do yourself a favor and pick up a later-design controller, much nicer to use, quite similar to the 360 controller actually.

Bah, 3.53, getting slower over time. Keep fumbling over the J's for some reason, never noticed that before.

Edit: 3.02 after a few more tries, although at that speed typing isn't an exact science.

Has it scratched it in a large circle around the outer edge of the disc? Thats a common problem, because the dvd-drives don't have the foam stops in them to keep the disc balanced that most drives do. I lost my first copy of Forza to this problem, so I took it back to the retailer, kicked off about it, and got a limited edition copy back

For the xbox, I just put a couple of sticky-back foam bits in the drive, like normal ones have. Not a single problem since.

Interesting thread, a lot of the techniques described here I've started applying recently, resulting in a jump from ~25mpg to my run yesterday of 36.8mpg over 220 miles, with a 1.8 petrol Focus. Mixed A-road & town/city driving. And I still drive it fairly normal - firm acceleration up to a speed, overtake slower moving vehicles (normally tractors), revs kept just inside its powerband. Still enjoy the drive, it just costs me less now.

One thing I found that helps, is fuel economy goes up if I coast in-gear as opposed to in neutral. I guess it cuts the fuel supply off under these conditions.

Quote from mrodgers :One more reason I don't play console games. I have 1 decent television and 1 decent place to use a television. The computer is mine, the TV is the wife's. She allows me to confiscate the TV for hockey games. Else, she gets the TV, which has always been fine by me. I rarely watch TV unless I'm extremely bored or we watch a movie together.

Don't know about the PS3, but the Xbox 360 will easily output to any vga screen at a compatible resolution, no excuse

1. Alcohol, doesn't matter what it is, long as it ain't £2.99 cider
2. A tent
3. Food, assuming there isn't a tesco within 5 miles. Supplies to build fire are optional, easy to improvise
4. Bog roll, you never know
5. A female, who enjoys the idea of spending time alone with you in the middle of nowhere by the light of the fire
5a. Failing the above, a football and a group of mates who also have alcohol and a tent works well. Espically when you mark out the goal posts with fire, so you can still keep busy at 3am

And that would be my idiots guide to camping

Quote from [RCG]Boosted :
ive had my pc now for over 4 years with only small upgrades (duron 1600 to athlon xp 2600+, radeon 9200se to geforce 7600gs) and it still does run all the games that i want to play with acceptable framerates.

I can't believe that, unless you make a point of avoiding modern games. Some games I have both on PC and Xbox 360, and my PC struggles to match the Xbox, and its much higher spec than yours.

Quote : another thing what makes a console wasted money is that u can barely do anything than play with it.

What else did you want a games console to do, make toast and give you chirpy conversation?

Quote :btw the games are hell expensive too! (60€ at least :really

The only console game I've paid full retail for is GTA:IV. Every other game I've got for £25 or under.

N95 does the job nicely, and didn't cost a penny either, just wish the battey lasted more than 2 days (with moderate/heavy use).

My brother in law got one of them phones, and they're useless IMO - the silly keypad may look cool but gets damn annoying to use, the screen as you say is useless, they're a bugger to type out a message on, and some of the interface software - for the camera and such, is rubbish.

You should have 28 days to unconditionally return most goods under the sale of goods act, although there are exceptions for some type of products, including some electronics. Best do your research before you walk into the shop and fire off on one.

Funniest thing I've read all week, made that bit better as I used to work for Tesco's.

If somebody shown that level of creativity where I work, I wouldn't ban them, I'd shake their hand.

Just don't ask what "code 3" stands for

2. I can wake up one day and feel like I'm on top of the world, then wake up the following day, under exact same conditions, and feel quite ready to rip someones head off
3. I've lived in so many postcodes over the last 3 years I've lost count
4. I run a newsagents
5. I watch motorsport like religon, have spent countless hours in sim racing, and own too many racing games to list, but the closest I've been to a proper racetrack is Santa Pod

downlikerain, do you have something to prove? You don't actually own either of the consoles, or the game in question? You talk like your trying to prove something but all I'm reading is nonsense. Only thing I picked up on from that video, is there's no real difference, so all other points being equal, if nothing else it makes sense to go for the cheaper option that gives you the same level of entertainment. Both platforms have their merits and neither is a bad option, so why not keep to the facts.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :The biggest problem is that Labour has listened to all the people saying its the government that needs to fix everything. If your kid steals a car or mugs an old lady its not Tony Blairs fault, or Gordon Browns, its your fault for being a shit parent. Society is so afraid these days that you can't tell off a kid in the street for being rude in fear of being called a pervert. You can't tackle a mugger running off with an old ladies purse incase you hurt them and get put in jail for GBH. You tell the guy who had his head caved in, outside the newsagents I used to work in, that crime has gone down. The guy got hit around the head with a bike chain by a 14 year old, totally unprovoked attack, the guy was just coming in to buy some milk so his wife could have a cup of ****ing tea.

Crime isnt decreasing, its shifting, now there is a lot more anti-social crime than ever before. The cause of that is criminals being given too many rights, and police officers not being trusted to do their jobs.

I hear exactly what your saying there, I run a newsagents in the evenings most nights a week, and the level of anti-social violence is higher than ever. Barely a day goes by when there's not an incident of some sort, and its rare a week will go by without having to get the police out or having to call contractors to sort out windows and the like. Someone causes damage to property and I have so few choices of action its laughable, someone starts mouthing off to staff and the best I can do is try to keep the peace till the police turn up, and they do roughly nothing, just diffuse it till next time. If I take any further action, I'm risking my job and spending a night at her majesty's pleasure. God help them the day one of them actually takes a swing at someone in my shop though.

And this is down in a fairly remote, medium sized town in Devon.

Sorry, rant over, bad week at work.

Rumor has it a November PC release is likely, but Rockstar won't offically confirm it. Several retailers have mistakenly listed a PC version for November though, and withdrawn it shortly after.

I still think its the type of game better played on a big TV with a gamepad though.

Any game from the Burnout series will do the job. High speed racing, primarily focused around wrecking your oponents in any way possible, while having the feeling of going 200mph.
