Both my DFP's have had pedal issues, both are Rev.B, but since I re-greased/reseated everything and tucked a bit more cable in no problems since november, or around 6,000 miles in LFS and another 2,000 in GT4

Are momo racing pedals the same as DFP pedals? I didn't like the springs in my DFP ones so I stuck a peice of foam (part of an RC car tyre insert) under where the 2nd spring kicks in, feels a lot better than before and stopped it making a noise when it hits the spring.

I've not seen ads for any of them here. Toca I've seen ads for most days for the last 2 weeks. Infact I went out and got it yesterday, and its good fun. Its not really a simulation, nowhere near LFS level - it feels completely canned (although it does damage better than LFS), but it is fun and thats all i particually care about.

DFP every time. If you shop around a bit it only costs around £70, 900 degree rotation, very good force feedback, and you can use it on a PS2 as well. For a wheel that costs less than £300 what more do you want?

Meh, when I want good clean and fun serious racing I'll race LFS, when I want some good fun messing-around racing i'll race a game like toca 3 (well in my case its GT4 and burnout 3 right now). I don't see why the two groups are mutually exclusive, you don't play a game that has adverts all over mainstream tv and expect it to be an actual simulation do you?

I started playing the demo somewhere around november 2003. Didn't actually cough up and buy the game, and a wheel, for another year though.

The only time I've used locked diff's in any of my RC cars is when I'm drifting. I once tried locking the diff on my RWD 1:10 truck (RC10 T3), and it gave it massive understeer in exchange for only slightly increased stability, and just wasn't worth it.

I've seen some drivers use locked diff's at my local TC track, but its quite rare.

I voted yes, because i've noticed small details that aren't quite right because I've raced there a lot recently, but I don't believe its a particually high priority in light of other bugs/changes that have been requested. It doesn't look so bad with AA/AF on anyway.

The Ultrex Evo is made by Protech? If its the one I'm thinking of you won't get a huge sum for it as its basically a rip off, of the Ofna Hyper 7 I think. If you listed it on Ebay you might see £80.

Back on topic, try again with nothing else running and see how it goes. As your in the UK and have broadband your line shouldn't cause any lag problems.

Do you have any other processes taking up much cpu time in task manager? Or have a local network? Do the servers your connecting to have a low ping? Its measured in "ms" in the list.

I doubt its your processor..I run an Athlon 2000 and have no lag problems, and thats going through my LAN onto a 512kb ADSL line, with all the visual settings up.

I love that video, I've had it on my HD for a few weeks, some excellent shots, and personally I love the music selection. I've gotten a couple of people interested in LFS showing them this video, and the Run Riot one (which has a kick ass intro, but I think shows too many wrecks and unrealistic colisions, still very good though). Easily the best video to demonstrate LFS in my opinion.

Fern Bay, FE Gold is great for the LX4. Been doing some racing there in a DSRC server the last couple of days, great fun. I really do wish there were more servers/players for these cars because they're great fun and often under-estimated when you run them against TBO cars.

After several failed downloads i've now got it setup, much more fun than Sunrise. Online play is a bit flakey still but hopefully they'll get it sorted out soon. What little I could play online was very fun.

Wow, looks good - downloading now. Trackmania was a terrific game, but I wasn't too impressed with their more recent one Sunrise. This looks like good fun though.

Dont' see why it wouldn't work. I use my MS Sidewinder pedals as clutch / e-brake pedals and they work spot on. I would infact recommend the Sidewinder pedals because they're bomb proof, and personally I prefer how they feel to the DFP ones, you may find yourself with the DFP throttle as clutch! The wheel/pedals tend to go for about a fiver on Ebay.

I used a joystick (Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D, now my gear selector) for almost a year of LFS, then i brought S1 and a wheel at the same time, and the wheel after a bit of pratice did make my laptimes a lot faster. Problem with joysticks is fatigue, and trying to be consistant in the corners.

If you don't have £70 spare for a Driving Force Pro, splash out £20 and get a 2nd hand Microsoft Sidewinder force Feedback. I have a non-FF one, used it for a long time and got very fast with it. Still use its pedals (I believe they have laser pots). For a bit more you can get the Logitech Momo Racing, never used one but apparently they're nice units.

Nice work, your shifter looks good.

If anyone who has a Logitech wingman force 3d has a couple of secs spare, would it be at all possible for you to measure the diamater of the white plastic tube? I just figured out how to take my spare gearknob apart and it uses 3 set screws to clamp on and has a removable plastic insert, so I'd like to know if I can just screw it straight onto the joystick shaft or not. Cheers.

I agree with mattlikespeoples for the most part. I play LFS quite a bit and I think I'm quite fast, but I also play Gran turismo a good amount, as well as NFS & burnout, and that type of arcade style game. Because you think LFS rules (which it does in many many ways) doesn't mean other types of racing games suck, I don't see why so many people (not pointing at anyone in particular, it happens everywhere) try to group people into e.g. a LFS & NFS crowd. I personally happen to like small diversions like banger racing in LFS, these sorts of things can help the game as well (for example banger racing could be used as a test to improve the crash physics).

That said, I don't think nos would exactly fit into LFS Anyway just my 2p on this (off)topic.

Xenix74, how are you attaching it to the joystick?

I have a spare car gear knob that looks similar to the one you linked to, a universal thread on thing, but I can't figure out how to attach it to the joystick. For tools I only have hand tools and a dremel to work with.

Where are you guys getting your gear knobs from? I'm on the verge of ordering a Wingman force 3D (i already have a non-force version ). But I don't have a mono to borrow the gear knob from, and I can't take the one out my DFP because I need the sequential shifter when I'm playing GT4 on the PS2.

Because it didn't fix the problem. Both my sets have had trouble, which I have fixed as mentioned in my first post to this thread. They work spot on now but both sets after a week or so of use glitched that bad i could barely finish a race, I suspect one set was because the driver (not me) was very heavy footed, and the pots ended up a bit loose.

I was an FOX addict for a long time..feels so "right" to drive, and great FFB. But recently I've fallen in love with the TBO cars again. The GTI @ Blackwood is still one of my fav combo's though.

The only place its marked is on the bag the manual comes in..it'll say on the sticker that seals it. But if you open up the pedals, Rev A ones are all plastic while Rev B ones have metal pots..as far as I know? Both my Rev B pedal sets are all metal pots.

I like the sound of it..and the price isn't too overkill..but would it work with the standard DFP pedals, or only fancy sets that cost big ££ ?
