Looks like your line through the chicane. And you take the corner tighter so can't get back on the gas as quick.

BT Option 3 here. Can't fault it, I live on a farm 6 miles from the closest town, and it consistantly gives me 3-4mbit speeds, with no lag or disconnect problems. Free wireless router/digital phone for a virtual 2nd phone line as well.

BT's milage does vary though, at my old house in Milton Keynes I could only get a 1/2mbit line, and it had moments where it was very touchy about disconnecting. Again no lag problems though.

Gah, "Download Session Invalid". Stupid Rapidshare. Or Stupid BT, Rapidshare hasn't worked for me for over a year now.

Any chance of a mirror elsewhere?

The PSU wasn't exactly cheap, so hopefully it will put out sufficent power

If the price is right I will try to go for the AMD2, future expandability is always nice. I've been using my current mobo and ram since 2002 I think, its seen 3 different processors. Suprisingly my Deathstar (IBM) drive has been ticking along since 2003 without so much as a burp.

Nice to see my current proc & gfx card have held their value well. Infact it looks like I could sell the processor for more than I originally paid for it..and the gfx card only a tenner less..even the mobo only £10 less than what I originally paid..maybe I'm good at getting bargains

Thanks for the detailed post, was more than I was hoping for I will have spare money at the end of August for it if all goes well, so purchases will be done sometime in Sept.

My PSU I did last year, its a 650W, can't remeber the number of amps for the 12v rail, I'll have to check that.

Looks *excellent* thanks. I'm using the 2nd road texture set you released, it just seems to fit the atmosphere of Blackwood better. Definately the best BL texture set released

Only downside, is I did have to go back to demo to try it Such a shame no-one uses XFR/UFR's at BL.

Thanks for all the advice guys. What I'm probably going to do is when I get my emergency tax back just get a new mobo/cpu/vid card and maybe ram.

What equipment would you recommend I upgrade to if the budget was raised to say £350?

The pot will be located probably at the rear of the wheels shaft. I don't know exactly what one in the wheel will look like, but heres a pic of one from the mono racing pedals:

http://web.axelero.hu/mozso/web/momo/pedal_mod4.jpg

It will have 3 cables running to it, and will have a bit that turns with the wheel, and a larger circular part that doesn't.

My retro motherboard only supports DDR400 for 1 stick. Infact I think one of my 512mb stick is DDR400, but its brought down to 333 by the other stick.

I'm not really going to have much money free after the coming weeks, thanks to buying a car, and having over £1,000 to pay for my college fees for the next 6 months. Maybe when I get my emergency tax credited back I could spare enough for a mobo/cpu upgrade

I would agree it sounds like a dirty pot. What it means is the pot that monitors the turning of the wheel has a bit of dirt in, or has corroded contact points, so it will randomly produce a different reading to what position the wheel is actually in. You could try spraying electrical contact cleaner into it.

Hmm. Sounds like its going to be rather costly to upgrade. At the min I can't really justify spending a big amount of money on it, games aren't worth that much to me. Maybe I should just spend the money on a new TFT instead. My 17" CRT is starting to whistle to me in the mornings.

Might buy a new heatsink for my cpu, I've taken it much further overclocking and it was fine until summer came, I've had to bring it down to keep the heat reasonable. I can't justify buying a new motherboard & cpu at the min for a marginal performance increase.

I'm willing to spend as little as possible Realistically my budget is £100 or so. I know nothings particually brilliant about my system, just the main nagging bit is how it will maintain a high framerate, but stutter once in a while. E.g. Doom 3, I run it on very high settings, no framerate problem. But when I walk through a door, it stutters a lot. I walk around a corner, it stutters a bit. Very annoying.

Whats my systems bottleneck?

Just wondering if anyone cares to speculate on what is currently holding my system back the most. None of its state of the art as I spend as little as possible on my system. Infact the only bit I've brought in the last year or two for it was the video card. I have a few quid spare so would like to increase framerates in more demanding games.

Specs:

Asus A7V8X Mobo
Athlon 3000, running at ~3300 speeds
1GB DDR333 Ram
Geforce 6600GT 128MB
2x 80GB ATA133 HD's, 7200rpm, 16mb cache

Framrates in most games are very good, but with the settings up high enough it will start to stutter a bit. The gfx card also has a mild o/c done, and has NGO drivers.

Without sound I'm a little off pace, about a second or so. Thing is with sound, you only hear stuff after its happened, so you react to it, instead of taking control of it and preventing it from happening at all. So I don't believe it makes a big difference to laptimes if you pratice without sound. Racing in a pack though, you would be at a slight disadvantage.

If you have ever played a PS2 game called Enthusia, that has an interesting display system that I would imagine is very useful when played without sound. It has A G force display that also shows how loaded each individual tyre is, and how close you are to their traction limit. Maybe one day such a feature will be integrated into LFS, or written by a 3rd party as an overlay app.

DFP. Much better product overall, 900 degree (adjustable) rotation, clearer FFB and a higher quality feel to the materials.

Can't say I noticed a difference switching from a 9600 to a 6600GT, other than of course being able to run more AA/AF, and the framerate going up 2x.

Sounds good, be sure to keep us posted. I've enjoyed the updates you and Devil007 have released for Blackwood thus far, if you get the bugs ironed out that would be great.

Update sounds excellent, just got in from work so not tested yet but will have a go tomorrow. Its pretty cool its skinnable as well, I'll have to have a quick go at one tomorrow

Regarding open sourcing your app, I can see the point of view from the person who sent you the message, theres quite a few applications that have done much better being open sourced than they could have by only having 1-2 people work on it. Look towards projects such as Linux, The Gimp, Firefox, OpenOffice, etc. I would not see it as an insult, I have released some of my work under an opensource licence (GPL V2) before which helped them grow. I would agree though its best not to do that at the moment as its still in very heavy development, and it is of course your choice if you prefer to remain the sole developer, very often that works better on small projects with specific goals. Like LFS Vs Racer for example.

So basically, don't feel insulted someone else wanted to hack away at your code Take it as a compliment.

I've experimented with B3D before, seemed quite well equipped, although I'm not exactly a programming guru. Personally I prefer VB.NET but I only do a quick bit here & there once in a while.

At least that explains the slightly unusual interface
