I don't think using a H shifter/clutch makes you much slower, once you've had a couple of months to get used to it. I've been using this setup almost exclusively since around Jan this year, and I've beat all my road car PB's I'm certain. Started with a Logi FF joystick + sidewinder pedals for clutch, now use Act Labs kit.

Like Kev says though there are certain circuits you just are slower on. But, there are times when having a proper clutch saves you time as well. At first you'll probably be quite a bit slower, but as you get used to it you won't be at a disadvantage. Can't wait till LFS has better gearbox/clutch simulation, hopefully it will happen once the G25 is widespread.

I've made adapters for a couple of people to use standard 6 bolt pattern wheels on a DFP, I could make one for you if you like for a small cost. Certainly a lot less than the £90 a Frex one costs. It does essentially what the Frex adapter does, but without the buttons/paddles, and supports a wider range of wheels. Personally I took the center out the original wheel and mounted it to the new one, to retain all the buttons.

You can fit an aftermarket gearknob to the sequential shifter easily..for the DFP pedals you can stuff a bit of dense foam under the brake pedal to stiffen it up a bit, and using teflon grease on all the moving parts improved mine somewhat.

If you could send me the smaller update that would be brilliant, or even just put the main file somewhere other than Rapidshare - my ISP (BT) doesn't work with it at all (Invalid session).

Definately gonna get one after seeing how fast it snaps back, might stick with my old shifter though, the logi one doesn't look like its very solid compared to the Act Labs one.

Sounds like you just got a dud, I had a Saphire Radeon in my machine and it worked well, still does in my friends machine.

The 7600GT is a very nice card, I got one a couple of weeks back, suprisingly quiet fan. Nice that it gets all its power from the pci-e so cuts the wiring down slightly.

Wow..very impressive..great work there. First time I've raced the BF1 in months. And the FXR sounds..amazing, not quite there yet but none the less very impressive. Hope you can continue to update this great app for a wider range of cars

Sidewinder FF is pretty good, personally I'd hold out and save the extra for a DFP, but I used a Sidewinder before I got mine and it was better than any other cheap wheel I've used.

Can the G25 be purchased in the UK yet, regardless of price?

I already have a Act Labs shifter + 3 pedal set, and modified DFP with real car wheel, but would like my shift paddles back. Wouldn't mind a quieter shifter as well. As much as I hate to say it the Logi pedals look a bit better as well.

Wonder if the shifter will be any good or not..apparently the ones they had a few months ago felt pretty sloppy.

I've never heard of anyone getting a refund before. But saying that I've never seen anyone who wanted one either.

Wasps, bees..no big deal to me, I avoid them because my family has a history of being allergic to them although I personally don't as far as I know.

Spiders though..dunno why, completely irrational, but I hate the buggers. I used to just squash them, now I at least try to contain it and put it outside unless they're too big for any empty glass I have to hand. Maybe because my parents had the same thing, so I was brought up with it. Fine with daddy long legs and small spiders though, weird?

The demo servers really let LFS down in my opinion. You can have some really good fun on there, but its rare. Because your anonymous you have no comebacks, no licence to loose or name to tarnish. Incidents like what you describe are rare on S2 servers. You get the odd guy who thinks his got more right to the road than you, but generally its really good fun. There are a few S2 servers which tend to have an admin in peak times of the day - normally team servers, these are the best ones to go on for clean and fair racing. The standard of racing is miles above the average demo servers, even though you can have an excellent race in either.

The full licence is well worth it, I've had S2 since the day you could purchase it, and I'm still not bored of it. Yet

Right, I now wish to purchase (build) a new system. I have around £450 or so in my pocket to do it with. I want it to be brilliant for games, and be a bit future proof'ed. I am thinking something along the lines of a 7900GT (£200 approx), AM2 socket 4200 X2 (£130), Motherboard (Gigabyte AM2 nForce 430 MATX, £60), 1GB DDR2 333 (£40), SATA hard disk (Maxtor Diamondmax 250GB 7200rpm, £50). What, if anything, would you do differently? I don't want to assemble a new system with an uber graphics card, and have it held back by something silly like the ram or HD.

Btw, I got one of these today. Nice display, although in serious sam 2 I can notice a small bit of ghosting compared to my old CRT when moving around pretty fast. Image is much sharper though in general use and mostly in games. And bigger

Tristan, I can light up the brake lights without pushing enough to use the actual brakes on my parents car (Citroen C4). It has around 5mm of travel where its very easy to push, and then after that it feels like normal. I think its designed like that so you can place the auto box in park etc without actually using the brakes.

I brought a 6600GT a few months ago for my system. I'm happy with it, runs most games on pretty high settings, and I only paid around £70 new for it.

I am left wanting a little more though in very recent games. Does LFS a treat though.

This is the only game I really play online often..why? The community. The general level of respect most people have for everyone else, not just here, but on the track as well. Sure once in a while a you'll encounter a tosser, but on the whole this game has the best community I've seen, and I enjoy being a part of it. Thats what keeps me coming back and not losing interest like I have in every other game.

Rest in peace Dave. Although I never knew him, its tragic for such a thing to happen, espically at such a young age. He sounds like a great guy. May you always live on in our memories.

I remeber suprisingly clearly. An internet friend of mine sent me a link to it via MSN, this was back in hmm Oct 2002 I'm fairly certain. Played it on and off, eventually brought a cheap wheel and S1 in 2004. Not looked back since.
