Tagforce, that screenshot looks brilliant, can't wait to see more.

The only thing I liked about toca was how easy it is to hang a car into a nice long powerslide round a corner. Of course doing this was obviously faster than doing it correctly. As an arcade game its good, but a sim it ain't.

Would indeed be nice to have the option to configure different "controller profiles" for each type of car (but only if the user wishes to, otherwise have them all share a global profile). It would increase the realism slightly to force use of a certain shifting method, e.g. sequential in MRT5, but I would suspect many people wouldn't like it.

If you say the right things, Logitech support is very good (At giving free stuff ). First time I contacted them (UK office) they told me same as you - return to store. Not possible because I'd purchased it from an online store that had since gone out of business. I phoned them again following day, was routed through to the US office, explained to the guy it doesn't work, and that i've ran through all the config options on GT4 (PS2 wheel after all), and tried it on a friends PS2 and the pedals still don't work, and he got one sent same day - turned up by UPS 2 days later.

A few weeks ago that one got calibration issues, so I phoned them, got routed through to their office in maybe India, explained it didn't go in a straight line and the pedals are broke (they still worked fine, but this is the most common support issue so thought I'd mention it), and I got a whole new unit the following week.

So my point is, keep trying It is in the support rep's power to send you a whole new unit as long as you say the right things. And have the product number handy (its on the base of the wheel). It has a 2yr warranty, may as well use it

Dunno how I missed this before, the demo is excellent. Reminds me of a game I used to play as a kid, I think it was called The Incredible Machine. I love games like this and LFS - I have no problem supporting small developers.

Thanks for the settings Ian, I will give them a go tomorrow. I'm also going to try and configure my new Act labs shifter/performance pedals in rF, hopefully it won't give me any problems.

Personally, I enjoy both, I have only recently given rFactor a fair go, never bothered with it before due to the amount of flak its recieved. I like how mod-able it is - has its ups and downs espically when it comes to online play, but I like it, its more of a framework than a sim out the box, and these days I think there's now some pretty good quality mods about. I always come back to LFS for online play though - thats where it really shines, in no small amount because how simple it is.

Meh, say what you will, I'm just saying what I've read and seen online. I can't find any that cheap doing a quick google now - its all closer to $80 but I'm fairly sure they were new units.

Could anyone share some advice or tweaked settings to make rFactor feel nicer? I'm using a modified ini I found on another forum, and it feels okay - a lot better than stock, but I can't actually feel most things, and holding a car sideways is damned close to impossible.

I've heard reports of some large retail stores in the US knocking DFP's out for as low as $30 in sales from time to time. I've seen them in US online shops for $60 or so before, so they are infact quite cheap.

Matrixi, a lot of people are still on dial up. It would take approx 10 mins to download 50 sigs in your example.

I'm strongly against image sigs, for a) bandwidth reasons, b) they waste space and c) they tend to give forums a very cluttered look. But I think avatars are good - they take up space that is a lot of the time otherwise wasted, they tend to fit in okay, and more importantly you can see how posted the message your reading without having to make a point to.

I would imagine the problems for the devs are, these people have paid their £24 like the rest of us, and it would be seen as unfair by many people to have their licences revoked because the way they race does is not in line with the commonly accepted way (i.e. driving the right way ). Also some people do it because they are bored, but otherwise drive fine most of the time. What can you do really. Maybe the devs could revoke their licence and refund their money, but then the devs are out of pocket for the sake of the community, with a small project such as this it may not be feasable. This is a problem that comes up in any public multiplayer game, and you have good days and bad days, but on the whole, most times of the day its quite easy to find a good race with honest people just out for a good time. Eventually people who go online just to bugger up someones evening get bored of it and stop doing it, or end up being banned from a lot of the popular servers.

Kev, heh you raise a valid point. Lets be fair though its not insanely hard to beat Tristian Espically when he tries to disguise himself in other team skins and forgets to brake Back on topic and to the real point, if its adversely affecting the race for many people its best the individuals causing it go to a less busy server or perhaps a team based server where they might recieve some hints or help as they pratice. There are a lot of people willing to help people new to the sim learn, and i try to do my bit as well, several people helped me when I was new so I see it as simply the way of things. Heck there's even been servers dedicated to it. But to be fair they've paid the same as us for the licence, its their right to log on to the busy servers, just they end up in more than they bargained for and ruin many peoples races and moods, the nagging thing is they take no responsibility for it, because to a large number its "just a game" and nothing to get worked up about. Which to a degree is true, but like you say the line has to be drawn.

True wreckers on the other hand, where they wreck other people on purpose, I think a global ban solution for only a period of time would be suitable. I think to better take care of the problem we need to understand what drives them to do it and try to find a solution at that level, but as in any public game, I doubt this is possible. I think a quicker goto spectate mode for people driving in reverse would be suitable, but a lot of S2 servers don't even use it at all. And in an accident or due to a lag collision sometimes your sent backwards which would send you to spectate unfairly. Maybe I'm just rambling though

I don't think disabling mid-race joining is a good solution. Personally I join in to a race half way through very often, wait for a good clear spot to leave pits, and use the time to "warm up". Of course if I end up in a blue flag situation I will run myself off the track or pit to avoid interference with the race. Lots of people do this. I think some basic level of information is needed in LFS, many people do not know the basic racing rules most people go by, and I think this is part of the problem.

As Fordman has pointed out some people take joy in wrecking. Unfortunately some people are like this, I let a friend loose on an TBO server on my pc once, I popped out for a smoke, came back and he was set on revenge against some random dude because he tried to overtake him illepall Obviously I appologised and logged off, but some people think they can do what they want because its "only a game".

I see your point, but another way to look at it, is if LFS is to expand, which I'm sure its been doing recently with the new BMW F1, and all the hype leading to the new update, there will be a lot of new players who are not yet totally farmilar with racing in a simulation enviroment, and they need time to learn. This is an ongoing process for everyone. Even just in the last few hours I've helped a couple of people as best I can with learning Aston Club, and in the last hour or so had a couple of very enjoyable races with several names I recognise from this forum. The way I see it is its a give and take, I have not ran accross many delibrate wreckers in S2, more commonly just people who aren't farmilar with the sim and the general rules. My driving still ain't that good, and I've done 20,000 odd miles (still good enough to beat Tristian ).

Sounds reasonable. I'll give them a go on my other machine - its only got a Geforce MX4000 or something so needs every FPS it can get

Its still easy to overload a 6600GT in some games given the right settings

What video card are you using? Is there any loss of display quality with the Z-T drivers? The NGO's seem to work nice without any quality loss.

For what its worth, I'm using the NGO version of 84.56, and have no performance problems - LFS seems to hover around 90FPS most of the time (6600GT). Other games like Doom 3 and Call of Duty 2 run very smoothly as well.

Your screenshots still have a bit of aliasing in - in the first pic look at the far wall that curves to the right.

Whereabouts should my mip bias slider be set to? Previously it was at -1.5, I tried moving it further to the right, didn't make a noticable difference, but I've only had a couple of mins to experiment with it.

Becky Rose, I think it is to do with the level of anti aliasing. From your screenshots you don't appear to run much, I'm currently running 4x. Without it, I don't have the problem. I'll have a play around with the mip mapping slider later.

Looking forward to any more updates you produce

On FE Club, coming up to T1, the white line affect doesn't seem as apparent, nor does it as you come out of the 2nd chicane. Still there though.

Scotty, you've got a PM mate

thisnameistaken, I had no intention of misleading people, simple fact is I have an invoice for £130 for a DFP, so thats what I put. To be honest I don't have a clue what most places sell it for these days or what its current street price is. I just priced it under what everone else sells new ones for. If I was trying to mislead people surely I'd be asking more, not less, than every other seller?

Some invoice I had laying around from the first one I purchased last year I know they don't generally cost quite that much now (although some real shops are still over £100).

If it had the ring, and some road cars, I'd be buying it already. Its about half the reason I still play GT4 - its version of the ring is excellent, even if the physics are a bit strange at times.
