Quote from Fuse5 :an EG or an EK civic?

Id suggest an EK, cause it is the next gen from EG, and stopped production in 98, so it is relatively new. Don't know about the insurance or car costs though, so don't hit me.

Looked some prices up, you could get a decent '96 one for just over £2k, 1,4 55kW, 132k km on the odometer. But that seems to be out of your price range.
EG's are cheaper, but will obviously need more maintenance.

I was looking at the EK model, can pick them up for a grand but they aren't in very good condition lol.

I may have to up my budget to £1,500 anyway so I can afford a decent 97-99 E36 316i.

Quote from no_one :I would give another vote for a Peugeot 306, but i would recommend the 1.9 TD. They a bulletproof reliable by and large as far as the engine is concerned. They also always score high in reviews for handling balance and feedback through the steeringwheel so they are engaging to drive. If u want to tune them for more power don't get the HDI get the earlier TD ones. Also if you can, get the D-turbo 'sport' model as it has the same spring/damper rates as the S16/GTi-6 model, but does bump it up to group 5 insurance.

Uhm, it's French lol. Reliable and French don't go together and they seem to crumple like shit in a crash.

Quote from tristancliffe :Don't get a BMW. You'll look like a chav, and no one will let you out at junctions. Having said that, it would make you popular with bouncers and 11 year old girls, which may be the image you're cultivating?

Lol, how did you know I was looking for that exact image lol - Tristan, you know us all too well.

I was thinking of a BMW as I want something different from everyone else for a first car and something that is alright for a couple of years rather then a shopping trolley. If I was to get a hatchback I would want the 1.4 Civic. Yeah, it may be a ricer car, but yah ho.

Quote from ajp71 :Not always true, but we've had a few E36 M3s dragged into the workshop bought for £2000-3000 that were absolute sheds. BMWs are prone to being abused and being expensive cars to run often get bought by people who can't afford to maintain them properly. If you're buying a car for less than the bill for any major work then think twice about what you're going to do when you need to pay it.

Before I buy any car I am sure my Dad will check it all over before hand to make sure it's all good. If something does go wrong with it when I own it, I will fix it, not taking it to a garage lol.

If I was to spend £1,000 to £1,500 on a E36 316i coupe, I should get a decent car.

Quote from Bawbag :Polos are good as long as it isn't the 1.4 16v because they are group 10 insurance which is facking loads for such a small car.

A 316 for under a grand is probarly gunna cost you more on the repair bill, as is any "decent" car you can get cheap.

You obviously have the money for the insurance so why don't you go for say a small 2k car and half the insurance of some BMW? Atleast with a newer car your not gunna worry about reliability, or the expensive road tax, or the tyres, or the fuel.....well, not as much anyhow.

So you think because a car is cheap and old it's going to be unreliable, what a load of bull lol. This is not always true.

A lot of E36 316i's are £500-£1,500.

I don't have the money for the insurance, will pay monthly so each months wages, most of it will go on insurance money. My 2008 Aprilia RS50 aka chicken chaser will buy my car as I am going to spend at the most, £1,000 on a car as that's what I should get for my RS.

Quote from tristancliffe :A used Polo. Ideal.

Hmm, don't really like them lol.

Did get suggested a Honda Civic 1.4

Would a E36 316i be a good choice if I was to pick one up for under a grand? I will also be going out through country lanes as I will hopefully be doing chinese deliveries for a chinese in Modbury which is out in the sticks really. But, will also be doing deliveries for the kebab place I work at for aswell which is around the whole of Plymouth.

Argh, first car choicing is annoying. Yeah, I have until February which is when I turn 17, but I think it's best to get some options down before hand lol.

Right guys, I'm going to really stop looking now, but what car that is sensible would you choose for your first car?
People from England please only answer, as people in other countries seem to get cheaper insurance so make stupid suggestions which we couldn't even think to try getting insurance on as a first car and being a young driver.

Wife says to her husband "I need a piss, going to go for one in the bushes over there." Husband replies "Okay."
The husband goes over and puts his hand into the bushes and has a little feel and feels something dangling between his wifes legs, he says "Oi, have you had a sex change." She says "No, I've changed my mind, I'm going for a shit."

Quote from samjh :One thing of note: Bruce Lee was an actor. His martial arts expertise and ability is highly debatable.

Bruce Lee yes was an actor, but he was also a very good martial artist. Hopefully soon I may get the chance to know more about him from someone who knew him personally, that person is Dan Inosanto. He visits Plymouth now and again as he is friends with the guy who owns the martial arts academy I use to train at, which hopefully I am going back to lol.

People think Bruce Lee was over rated and not a good martial artist in my opinion he was a good martial artist and why people actually look up to him as an idol. His fitness was at a very high level, he had a lot of strength, stamina and a lot of speed.

Oh one other thing, Bruce Lee if he was still alive could wipe the floor with Chuck Norris

Bruce Lee will remain in history forever. He was one of the best, if not the best in my book. He will take some beating.

Breadman: If you don't know what Martial Art to do, why not do MMA - Mixed Martial Arts. As the name suggests, it puts a multiple of martial arts together, what I mainly use to do was MMA, and I have to say, it is very good and will teach you self defence but it is also a combat sport, for example UFC is MMA.

When I go back I am hoping to start to learn Grappling and BJJ as my main sports, may also throw a bit of Karate and Kickboxing in also as the MMA I use to do was kickboxing based really.

Quote from The Very End :The black box itself should survive an aircrash. However, if it's down in the ocean, without any sort of communication device aviable.. the chances to find it will be slim

I heard that they put a microphone in the water and listen for the sound of the beacon.

Quote from samjh :Probably never.

Even if they do find it, the chances of being able to retrieve it or any useful information from it, are low.

Hmm, I watched a video saying that they are built to recieve a beating and still be able to work. But, they fear that the beacon may have came off of the black box. Who knows

Quote from DieKolkrabe :I doubt that a lightning strike alone would have brought the plane down.

The captain wasn't at the controls, and AFAIK, autopilots are programmed to keep a selected speed/heading/altitude/etc, no matter what, it's like putting a car's cruise control on then going on a cobbled road.

IMO I think that the plane got into the storm and broke apart trying to stay within the programmed limits.

Also the electrical message may have said that, but I doubt we'll ever know what happened.

RIP to everyone on board.

On the BBC News videos, it says these planes are built to withstand a lot of trumours. Was saying that it will take a lot to cause these planes to crash.

Wonder how long it will take them to find the black box.

Okay then, seeing as some of the cars on there, you most likely couldn't afford. There isn't just shopping trolleys on there. There is someone with a 2004 E55 AMG with the Kleerman stage 4 tuning kit on, he has multiple other cars also. That club cover all aspects of car tuning/modifying.

Anyway, end of rant. Let's get back on topic.
