Alright, I'm sold. Pulling the trigger for 1.3. Anyone wanna try online tonight or tomorrow evening?

Hopefully my G25 still works after 2 years of sitting in the closet.

Our office had one Shuttle system that had same kind of problem. Never figured out what exactly had died but it had major trouble booting even with everything pulled off (memory, hard disks, optical drives, keyboard, mouse etc.)

The CPU was fine though when I dropped it to another mobo but needless to say the Shuttle was thrown to the wall quite quickly. Lesson of the day was never let the CEO decide what kind of computers to buy.

Ok, so I have an old D-Link wireless router/ADSL modem that's starting to have dementia as it loses settings whenever it's power cycled or rebooted. Kinda frustrating. As far as I know all sub-100 € stuff is more or less crap but if you'd be so kind and share good experiences of such devices you may have and help a brotha back to intertubes.

Some features I would have use for:

1) Firewall
2) N-spec wireless and WPA2, hidden SSID and signal strength management
3) At least four RJ-45 plugs
4) MUST NOT BE BUTT UGLY DEVICE

Quote from Fastwalker :Awesome shot Don!

Was that with an on-camera flash or studio (ring-)flash/strobe?

I'd guess from the tyre shadows it's a single bare bulb speedlight from high camera left, nearly (?) 90 degrees to the subject? And yeah, he's good.

Quote from Hyperactive :I've been watching some lets plays on youtube and it sure looks tempting and it seems to have a very nice scifi feel to it.

How smooth does it run on a ati 4870/E8500?

It does have a very solid near-future experience.

The PC port is great so I'd guess DX: HR runs well on lower end hardware too. The textures and some of the models are a bit low on detail but can't really complain.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :It's pretty good, though it has some rough edges.

(****ing boss fights in a stealth FPS in 2011???)

I'm about halfway through Hong Kong right now and loving it in general, though I did almost quit after Barrett killed me for the 80th time in a row.

Strangely I had very little trouble with the boss fights. Spam EMP and concussion grenades and shoot for the head. I don't think Barret took more then couple of snipers rounds to the ol' armor plated coconut of his before going down.

Aight. So I clocked 25 h on my first playthrough and boy it was one helluva good, tight gaming experience. Reminded me of the good times of gaming in the 90's and early 00's when man could just claim land, wash gold, shoot bears, drink, hit the brothel and wake up in a ditch happily with missing teeth.

I skipped a ton of side quests and different plot options so definitely has two or three playthroughs in it.

So far the definite top 5 of 2011 looks to be DX: HR, Witcher 2, DCS: A-10, Limbo and TF2 hats.

Quote from Fastwalker :Criticism very welcome!

Where are the cat photos? You can't just purchase a DSLR and cool lenses and not post pictures of pets!

Great start!

Sorry for the horror spam but coincidentally it was Zombiewalk 2011 weekend so here's a short sample of the walk at Tampere. See the full set here:

THE SHRUBBERY IN FINLAND NEVER LOOKS THAT GOOD.

That off my chest, excellent work and processing again. The one with the cyan wall has nice colours. Adobe RAW converter? Wat lenses were those?

(Ha, in your face non-lens-fanatics!)

They could've atleast sharpened it when they resized.

Quote from Seb66 :Don't do what I did.. and get hit by a wave the size of a tsunami with your camera in hand.. (or iphone in pocket). My 1000D is like a woman now, it decides whether it wants to be turned on or not.

Ouch and lol'd.

Some Nikon repair stories from today. Noticed a strange thing with my lovely Nikkor 14-24/f2.8 last Thursday when I was packing my stuff after a shoot. Somehow I was able to twist the lens over the point where it should stop and release from the body. (Kinda like the 'neck' scene in the Exorcist.)

Fortunately I purchase all my expensive stuff locally so I was able to go visit the store and show the staff the problem and compare it to a regular 14-24 they had in store.

Off it went to the repairs on Friday and got it back today - fixed under warranty despite being nearly 2-years-old work horse. Nikon support gets a nothing but positive feedback from me.

Couple of outtakes from Spring 2011. Kinda ok feel in these but they lack a bit of clarity what comes to the connection and execution. But do fire away with the feedback. Always appreciated

About the 'what's the correct (?) amount to post stuff per week and per subject' is a difficult one. What comes to DWB, I've seen photographers build a career, style or portfolio with still life macro work of flowers and everyday items and DWB's work is consistently top notch technically. I'm saying keep them coming as he's the macro work benchmark here.

The time issue is pretty bad here personally. My design job eats 9-10 hours a day and that leaves me emotionally exhausted and stressed so I'm lucky if I can manage just one bigger shoot per week and that forces me to make decisions and plan ahead what I'm going to shoot that'll hopefully move me forward. Lately it's been just people shots as that's what I would want to do full time soon.
