Ben, he's got his wheel set up at 210deg with a 5% deadzone, which would explain why it's a bit all over the place I think.

From reading everything I can find it looks like it might just be sim enough, especially as it will earn extra credit with F1 fans being the first official PC game since forever.

Not forgetting weather. In many ways, GP4 is still the best representation of changing weather conditions.

Quote from BlueFlame :Toby probably is only qualified to commentate on bikes (something which he knows a fair old crack about) even though he is a fantastic commentator, I don't think he is right for F1.

He is a huge fan of F1 and very knowledgeable on the sport.

Toby Moody would be terrific alongside Martin... as long as he carried on doing MotoGP aswell.

Doesn't have to do a full lap:

25.4 e)Unless he has used intermediate or wet-weather tyres during the race, each driver must use at least one set of each specification of dry-weather tyres during the race.

If his pit was before S/F then that should also count, but might be controversial!

Quote from samjh : Copping a ticket for a minor "burn-out" is one thing, but would we be so forgiving of an F1 WDC who makes a habit of running red lights or drives into a car/person while drunk?

This.

Quote from 5haz :Nobody above age 12 has follows role models in reality. Lets not forget that F1 drivers are also human beings like the rest of us and so should be allowed to have some kind of independant life beyond the reaches of political correctness.

Rubbish. I'm 36 and I've got some. I think you're confusing "role model" with "imaginary friend".

The FIA is deeply involved in road safety and standards.

F1 drivers are role models.

It seems logical that the FIA should hold such role models to account.

It doesn't restrict freedom. They are still free to break the law. The consequences of being a tit on the road are merely increased.

I think he'll be a sitting duck in the early laps. If he's fighting or stuck behind someone at a chicane he'll get mullered down the straights.

Shocking action by the marshals / medical staff to just roll them onto stretchers and drag them off as quickly as possible (so quickly that they dropped Tomizawa). That sort of thing only usually happens at IOM TT these days.

What if Redding had broken his back? You simply do not move them like that - it has potentially life changing effects for the patient. The ambulance with all their equipment could have been on scene in seconds had they stopped the race.

You could have the same accident with just two or three riders - grid size was not the cause, but it may still be a focus.

Logically, the next step would be improving riders' leathers to include proper impact protection on the thorax. That may be difficult to implement given the nature of riding however.

Start from the back every race. You'll pass half the field in T1.

As Ricky Hatton used to say "It's not a tickling competition"

Just watched Indycar from Mid Ohio - they get punished for defending the inside. Takes the edge off the racing a bit; as will the "Playstation" moveable wings rule if it makes it into next season. Overtaking is great, but only if it is earned. Rubens earned his!

Not being funny like, but why don't you play S1 and S2 first?

Top bloke. If you think that being F1 World Champion should also be about being an ambassador for the sport then there's only one winner this year.

Jean made you jump up and down at the first GP in 1990 at Phoenix, but his first GP was France the year before where he finished 4th - one place better than Martin Brundle's 84 debut which is worth a mention.

Quote from sil3ntwar :Watch a world superbike race then you will realise how crap motogp is. Especially when WSBK is less than a second a lap slower.

Proof? Race lap times are the only comparison as MotoGP does not have qualifying tyres.

Don't really see why there is such a fuss about Barrichello vs Schumacher. Just looked like a good, hard fight. They didn't touch, so Schumacher must have given enough room. It's surely more a case of "Well done Rubens" than "Boo hiss Schumi". Schumacher was aggressively defensive and Rubens didn't back down - just what you want to see.

Quote from richo :If i was Massa i would be thinking bugger you Fred , if you want it earn it .

There was a lot of talk about ditching him anyways , as we know contracts don't mean a hell of a lot these days.

Although i do think its a bit harder to sack some one if there stading on the top step more than the other guy.

Would be exceptionally easy to sack that person if the other ended up losing the WDC by 6 points when you had denied them 7 points by ignoring an instruction from your employer, whether express or implied.

Quote from tristancliffe :

Anyway, what Ferrari did was right. It was the way they did it that upset those people that bet on results. Surely normal non-betting fans don't really care that much? Massa won in principle but lost respect. Alonso got more points but lost respect. Ferrari got maximum points but lost respect. Even if they hadn't swapped the drivers, we wouldn't have had more of a race, as Alonso wasn't going to beat Massa fair and square anyway.

I wouldn't say Massa has lost any respect. If anything, he has gained sympathy for being the victim of team orders. Only a minority would suggest that he should have, as an employee, disregarded an order from his employer (thereby breaking his contract). He has handled himself with a fair degree of dignity through the matter, which is what you would expect having seen him handle the agony of losing the championship in 2008.

The rule was originally put in because fans don't understand the sport. If people are aware of the realities of the situation then team orders are natural and have been part of the sport for decades. If this had been 1950s F1 then Massa may even be called into the pit to give his car to Alonso.

There are similarities to the Tour de France. A domestique will surrender his bike to his team leader, or bust himself physically in order to help his leader get into position in the race. No one wails about Navarro killing himself in the mountains to help Contador, although it means Navarro then has no chance to win.

Massa is the domestique, Alonso is the leader.

Having said that, the rules are the rules and should be rigorously enforced, especially if the FIA considers that Ferrari have lied to the stewards, which would be much more serious than 39.1.

Back safe and sound. Great to meet everyone for the first time. Racing was really good and made up we got 2nd in the enduro.

Thanks to Pete and Nigel for the lifts. Unending thanks to Jason for being such a generous host and excellent organiser! A couple of things to remember to do next time:
  • Beat Pete at pool;
  • Ask Count Bazeley if he is a real Count;
  • Win;
  • Drive down so we can do a Petrol vs Diesel Top Gear Challenge against Pete;
  • Offer to tidy up.
