Giggs was pretty hopeless, unusual for him. Thought Danny Rose played well, not sure why all the long balls were punted ahead of Bellamy when Rose is the quick one.

Quote from Matrixi :I've been thinking about getting a Samson C03U, any of you got experience with one? My sound card is pretty decent itself, so I'm not sure is a USB mic the best way to go..

No I haven't used any USB mics, no experience with them at all. I would say if you've got a dedicated audio interface already it would make more sense to buy a standard condenser. Otherwise if you want to keep to a tight budget maybe a USB mic would be a good way to go. Overall I think if you're gunning for a professional sound it would be a better idea to get a decent audio I/O box (MOTU, or even M-Audio or similar) and at least one quality mic, but it depends what you want to spend.

Compact class D bass amp. 600W in a 2kg box!

Rode NT1-A for tracking double bass at home. Sounds really nice and airy, great value large diaphragm condenser.

Also got my other double bass back last night so the main bass is getting one of these fitted - Fishman Full Circle pickup:

Quote from MAGGOT :I can't think of any summer Olympic sports that I find interesting, to be honest.

The womens heptathlon usually has attractive women. Although Kelly Sotherton isn't competing in this olympics. Jessica Ennis is quite foxy but she's no Kelly Sotherton.

Quote from broken :Say for 10 donuts once every 2 months, will that make any difference on how often you need to change the tyres?

Tyres can heal themselves quite quickly and should be able to fully recover from 10 donuts within just a few weeks.

That's pretty much my four-year-old PC and I didn't bother buying BF3 because I expected it to not work well enough.

I already answered your question - get a double bass. Then you can join in all the cool threads with the cool people.

Quote from MAGGOT :Please start a Psychobilly band.

The guitarist in my last band was previously a bassist in a psychobilly band. He can't play in tune but he makes up for it with enthusiasm.

I have two basses now so I've strung the other with low-tension gut-sounding hybrids for 'billy silliness. I take it out busking and we either do '60s rocksteady and ska tunes or '50s rock n roll. I prefer the traditional rootsy slap sound to the steel-strung psychobilly sound though.

I was thinking about buying a PS3 rather than updating my PC. I didn't buy one in the end because I can't help thinking Sony are likely to replace the PS3 soon. I think they've said they will give the PS3 ten years before they put out the next generation but I'm not sure I believe them.

So then I thought I should bring my PC up to date, and then I thought about all the time I currently spend doing creative stuff instead of playing computer games, and how all the people playing games online are unbearable ****s, and how I used to have to get drunk just to play TF2 or BF2 online because of all the griefers and people chasing achievements instead of playing the game, and ultimately I thought 'Nah'.

So I bought another double bass instead. It's really nice!

It'll be as pretty as the Xbox 360 allows it to be and no more. Just like the last one.

To be honest I don't think it matters. The shadows were a bit distracting in the last one but the biggest problem is the clown car suspensions and they've been like that for the last 10 years of GTA so we can assume the platform isn't the problem.

While I generally approve of people being aspirational in their approach to audio reproduction, I've observed that very expensive reproduction equipment is often bought to accurately render recordings which were destroyed during mastering by some bollock-head somewhere and will never sound good no matter how much you spend on your stereo.

Also those Grado headphones are bad if you're going to use them in public due to being open-backed - you'll piss off everybody on the bus with those. And they do not have anything like a flat response. Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, but don't let snobs tell you that you should buy the headwear equivalent of reference monitors and then show you a picture of some fashionable Grados.

I don't think Pastor deserved a penalty for that. He just ran out of talent while Perez was alongside him, it could have happened to anyone.

Shame for Perez, but not Maldonado's fault.

That Fabregas/Silva combo was amazing. If you watch it in slow motion Silva knows exactly what he's doing, it was no fluke.

Spain were very entertaining tonight, I thought they deserved it and their performance was a great advertisement for the sport. Italy were unlucky but for me were the surprise of the tournament. I felt sorry for Pirlo, he demonstrated a real mastery of his position and he worked very hard.

The quality of football improved a lot once England were knocked out. Spain's semi was a bit dull but the last two games were fantastic.

VMWare Fusion works well. You don't need a lot of grunt to run LFS, it should be fine in a VM on a modern Mac.

I think when Gerrard's fit and on form he's still a world class box-to-box player but he doesn't have the vision of a great playmaker. Also while his passing is accurate, there's nobody up front in the England side with the movement to create opportunities. Rooney is a has-been, he used to have a certain dynamism and looked promising but now his play is oafish and lacking discipline. I honestly don't understand why he's an automatic selection for the national squad - there are more athletic players and better finishers and forwards who at least appreciate that it's their job to bother the centre-backs, not lope around in midfield playing uninspired passes and wondering why no goals are going in. He's shit.

Quote from CSF :England have refused to move with the times in terms of developing players and in terms of tactical innovations, believing that long direct passing can still win you tournaments.

I agree but still, that's basically what the Italians did against Germany. The difference is they've got Pirlo and we've got Gerrard, and they've got Balotelli and we've got Rooney.

Germany looked like they totally ran out of ideas. How many diagonal crosses from Schweinsteiger? Completed approximately none of them. I think if they'd stuck to their passing with Ozil and Khedira they might have got through eventually. Credit to Italy though they were on top form, and they all looked like they were enjoying themselves.

I thought Gerrard played well. Him and the back four did alright, the problem was none of the forwards could keep the ball or score goals.

Carroll looked pretty confident but had no supply and for some reason Rooney was favoured over him. When you think of the younger players who didn't go or didn't play (Walker, Richards, Gibbs, Jones, Smalling, Rodwell, Wilshere, Cleverley, Sturridge, etc.), I think you could put Carroll at the head of a 4-2-3-1 with the next generation of players that will come through perhaps in qualification for the next world cup. We've got a midfield there that can pass the ball well and keep possession, and can be coached long term.

Is there some law that says you can't sub Rooney off even if all he does is give the ball away?

I don't understand why he's so highly rated. He plays better for Man U but with England he spends too much time deep in his own half and when they do counterattack he's nowhere to be seen. All the forwards were useless last night, but Rooney's the only one we're constantly told is 'world class'. Nonsense.
